Best

Lush decor, attentive service & interior Mexican cuisine are worth the hefty price tag on Fonda's menu. Brunch here is a don't-miss.

You must eat here!!!! 4/18/2005

The most wonderful food and a great atmosphere . Wonderful service and did I mention great food. The Dill enchaldas are to die for . GO . EAT . ENJOY .You will return time and time again. Pros: the food, atmosphere, staff Cons: parking, the wait, a little loud more

My favorite brunch in Austin! 3/19/2005

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Austin. It is a bit steep for my budget or I would go at least once a week! The atmosphere is so lovely and authentic. The food is genuine interior mexico, so don't go expecting your typical tex-mex. I would say that Fonda San Miguel is the most elegant and upscale Mexican restaurant in Austin, yet they also have on their dinner menu many excellent things for the person who prefers continental fare. Their Sunday buffett is excellent - the ceviche, napalito and guacamole salads, corn pudding and pork adobo are some of my favorites. They also have one of the best mole' sauces in Texas! Service is excellent, prompt but not invasive. All in all a wonderful place! Pros: Gourmet Cuisine, Lovely Atmosphere, Excellent Staff Cons: Expensive, Hours a bit erratic, sometimes a long wait more

Very impressive 2/22/2005

I'd heard a lot about Fonda but nothing could prepare me for the experience that was waiting as I walked through the door. A rich, warmly decorated restaurant in old Mexican Colonial style, with a very friendly and welcoming feel, great service and meticulously prepared food, and a thoroughly memorable meal. After being disappointed at a couple other Austin fine restaurants, I was beginning to wonder if I could find a wonderful fine dining meal here in town that wouldn't make me feel that shudder when I signed the check. Well, I've found it in Fonda... if you are looking for great traditional Mexican I'd highly recommend it! more

cafe, no / Restaurante, YES 6/20/2003

Restaurante' Fonda San Miguel reminded me of the great dinning I've enjoyed accross the border. The tempo, personal service, decor, food & drinks must not be missed. I felt like I had been on a vacation!!! Pros: Beutiful inside & out more

You're not in Austin, Toto 5/23/2003

It is easy to forget that you are actually in Austin when dining here. Luscious tropical setting. Beautiful decor. Interior Mexican food at it's best. I was disappointed in the brunch though. It is rare that buffets ever measure up to the price and this was no exception. Pros: atmoshpere, food, service Cons: poor brunch more

I felt ripped.... 5/12/2003

On Sunday, May 11th, we went to Fonda San Miguel for the first time. I didn't know it was a buffet, which I should have left at that point, not to be waited on for Mother's Day. But then no where was there a price for anything... Needless to say after an OK meal, a glass of tea and a coke when the bill came for $77, I WAS SHOCKED. It was far from worth it and I felt completely ripped off. Besides that I guess because they were busy, the service wasn't that grand either. We won't be returning. Cons: bad service, over priced more

Great Place 4/29/2003

This is truly the best Mexican Restaurant I have ever been to. We had Sunday brunch there. All the food was excellent and the service as well. From the fresh lime margarita and orange juice to the sweet bread pudding, everything was great. I have no particular favorite. They are all my favorites! The atmosphere also added to the enjoyment. Pros: food freshness, atmosphere, service Cons: price more

fresh and tangy 10/18/2002

The most exquisite magaritas in town. Perfectly blended, the freshest juice. more

Once great, now slipping! 10/1/2002

This used to be my favorite restaurant, but they are slipping. Wine by the glass is an expensive JOKE. I've had bigger portions at free tastings. Last night they were out of our first two entree choices, a fact the server neglected to mention beforehand. (One was a special and it was still early in the evening.) My ""stuffed"" zucchinis, which I usually like, had NO stuffing. None. Not a spoonful. It was just zucchinis with cheese and sauce. Pros: Nice ambiance, Creative menu, Speedy service Cons: Stingy with wine, Out of entrees, Slipshod meals more

Absolutely Fabulous 9/9/2002

This is the best restaurant in Austin. It is beautifully decorated and the food lives up to the ambiance. Try the queso appetizer, the pork entree and the flan dessert for a pleasurable experience! more

Simply the Best ! 8/9/2002

Ever wanted to find that special place where you feel like every $$$ paid for is returned back twice-fold. Well, Fonda is the only place in Austin where fine dining and customer appriciating go hand and hand. On a good night, you'll get the best food/service in town. On a bad night, you'll get the best food/serve. Maybe even catch a movie star eating one of the best meals they've ever had. I caught a glimpse of Denzel with a mouthful of polla asado and a big smile. Cheers Fonda ! Pros: Best Interior Mex., Free Valet more

To Die For 7/25/2002

For 26 years I have been a fan of Fonda San Miguel. Everytime I dine there I find the food, ambience, and service better and better. I have never had an occasion of disappointment or loss of confidence in the superb quality of this establishment. I have been just about everywhere else on your top ten list and have found few listed which could even hold a candle to San Miguel's. Pros: romantic ambience, handmade tortillas, excellent recipes Cons: parking limited, wait time/some nights, crowded on weekends more

Now, this is Mexican food. 7/19/2002

I've never been disappointed here. The restaurant is beautiful, the wait staff attentive, and the food delicious. I don't know why this isn't on the ""Best of"" list for Mexican restaurants. more

Wonderful experience 6/20/2002

I recently dined at Fonda San Miguel for the first time. I was delightfully impressed. The decor is beautiful and it has a wonderful ambience. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu and spent a lot of time discussing different dishes and answering questions. And of course the food was fantastic! more
