Good steak 6/18/2008

Steak was cooked well. Great service. Good desserts. Loved the specials. Website was user friendly. Would recommend it, best steak in Memphis. Pros: Valet Parking, Piano Bar, Private Dining, exceptional and personable service Cons: Expensive, but worth every penny!... Only one restroom with two stalls - it seemed like quite a large venue for such a small - yet well maintained, restroom more

Great steak 11/23/2007

Folk's Folly has it in the name: Steak House. It's a more upscale place to go for a date for two. I sent my parents there for an anniversary one year, and they were very pleased. Plus, they're steak people and raved about their food.\r \r They also have a very good wine selection here. more

Slightly overrated 7/25/2006

The steaks are good, and the rest of the food is okay too. The waitresses are all older than God, and rather cavalier about the service they provide. Still it's somewhat overpriced, but would be worth it if they lived up to the price. But the people of Memphis (generally speaking) are unsophisticated regarding restaurants, and they have no idea what fine dining is. Hell, they think Red Lobster is the best seafood in town. Is that sad or what? Pros: Bread Pudding Cons: Surly, aging wait staff more

It's BACK!!! 2/27/2006

I read the posted reviews and it seemed like there was not a consensus. But I went because I love steak. It was as good as anything I have EVER eaten. cooked perfectly, very pleasant staff, unique suroundings (it's in an old house). From the dates of the other reviews posted I think it's time that everyone go back...they were proudly displaying all of the awards they won last month from the two leading magazines in town, the place was PACKED, but still accomodated me without delay. It had energy but was not too noisy for conversation. Whatever transition they went thru, it's over. This is truly one of the top steakhouses in the country...I've lived in 12 cities...this is where I now ship out my gifts from. Pros: complimentary valet , private rooms , piano bar Cons: seriously, none more

Folly Experience 2/26/2006

I have been dining at Folk's Folly for the last 11 years with my family. I recently had dinner there and had probably the best experience ever! The service was outstanding and the staff could not have been more fantastic ....from the great greetings from the guys outside to the smiling faces at the front door. I've noticed a remarkable improvement with the consistancy and overall service! Keep up the good work! more

4 star ? 11/12/2005

Steaks and Ambiance 6/1/2005

If you are looking for the best steak in town - consider Folks Folly in East Memphis. /the alacarte menu and extensive wine list offers a wide selection of choices. The appitiezers will start your meall off with just the right touch. Although the soups, salads and vegetables tasted good - the use of a prebottoled dressing on the hearts of Palm salad was disappointing. The steaks however, were tender, tasty and cooked to perfection. My dinner artner and I were too full to try any of the desserts, but the coffe topped of a lovely evening. The wine list is extensive and even the most discerning wine afficiando will find something to their liking. PROS: Steak is definately their forte CONS: vegetables could use some work. more

great change 3/11/2004

I've noticed a DEFINITE improvement in food and service since Thomas Boggs (who also owns Hueys) purchased this restaurant from the original owners. On a recent visit I tried Crab cakes which were GREAT and had a perfectly cooked filet (oh and a PERFECT Dirty Martini...). Prices are still high...but not any higher than other Steak Houses of this genre. Just wish I could afford to go more often! Pros: Clubby Atmosphere, FOOD/DRINKS, SERVICE more

NOTHING SHORT OF THE BEST STEAKHOUSE EAST OF THE MISSISSIPPI(IN MEMPHIS, ANYWAY)..RESERVE A PRIVATE ROOM..TRY THE FILET "SWARTZCOFF" STYLE--STUFFED WITH REAL BLUE CHEESE..SALAD--SO,SO..BROWNIE--SO FINE! more

It is not the best STEAK in town!!!! 2/1/2003

we ate there because of the ratings it had received, but found out they did not live up to those standards. We ordered our steaks "medium / medium rare", but they came back charred on the outside and red on the inside. The service was lacking for those prices also. I found Side Porch to have fabulous steaks at less than half the price of Folly's. If these guys can stay in business all these years and serve bad steaks at their prices, then there is a chance for all of us to open a restaurant and succeed. Cons: Loud atmosphere, overpriced more

The Best Steak in Town 1/13/2003

The best steak in town. The service was great but the food was better. Try the shrimp cocktail, crab cakes and 14oz filet. It is a little to nice to bring kids and infants. This place is expensive and people do not want to pay alot of money to listen to screaming kids. We left ours at home and so did everybody else. To sum it up - It is a nice relaxing place to enjoy great food. more

Not quite there 1/6/2003

The food is a bit pricey. It should probably run about ½ of what it does. The butterflied filet was the best we've had at Folk's Folley. The Porterhouse was a bit tougher than one would expect for 30+ $'s. The sauteed mushrooms were clothed in way too much pepper. The fudge browning topped with ice cream was good. Pros: Good service Cons: Price, parking more

Folks Folly?! 12/19/2002

Folks Folly is not very good at all. When I was a child a loved it but for the last five years the steaks have always come out burnt and the quality of meat doesn't seem near as good as it used to be. Also, it's absurdly expensive. Pros: Great Staff, Nice Atmosphere, Impresses Dumb Girls Cons: Not a Very Good Steak, Really Expensive, Odd Location more

over priced and over rated 12/4/2002

The food is mediocre at best but the price commands a huge premium. You will have a far superior experience at ruth Chris or even the butcher block. Pros: location, service, reputation Cons: food quality, price, ambience more

elastic-pants-worthy 10/21/2002

Crabmeat appetizer with hollandaise - wonderful. Wine list great. Steaks hot, buttery, sizzling, juicy. Great. more
