TERRIBLE Collection Agency 3/27/2012

First Collection Services is the worst collection agency I have ever dealt with. I have cancer and was hospitalized for several months, had several biopsies, 8 months of chemo and 22 rounds of radiation. I could not pay the mounting bills so they were given to First Collection Services. I was harassed by phone and mail daily - multiple times a day. When I explained my situation and that I had Medicaid pending for all of my medical bills they interrupted me, we're very rude, loud and pushy and kept demanding to know how much money I could pay. I finally told them I was unemployed due to my illness and my husband's company wasn't doing well and hours had just been cut so they wouldn't get any money from us unless Medicaid came through. These people LAUGHED at me and continued to DEMAND payment. I finally had to threaten legal action and send a letter asking them to stop. These are the worst of the worst people you could ever deal with. Pros: null Cons: null more

Didn't know I owed, until it showed on my credit report 7/25/2011

Never received a phone call or bill, ran credit and I owed from a bill in 06. Wouldn't negotiate, it's been on my credit for 5 years that I have this outstanding and I had NO Idea. It was a medical bill that I assume insurance didn't cover. I would have much rather paid it 5 years ago than have to explain it on my credit. That I had no idea it was outstanding. I had to search for them just to find the company to pay them the money I owed. more

AWFUL experience 6/25/2010

I offerred to make a monthly payment and they would not take my money unless I payed more than what I could afford. They were completely unwilling to work with me. Since they wouldn't accept my payment they sent my account to a lawyer. It has taken me 3 hours of investigation and eventually I had to call the hospital where my initial debt resides. The hospital called First for me directly .. finally someone from First called me and gave me the info. for the lawyer. From my experience, no one on the First staff knew how to arrange a payment plan in a courteous way. The first person I talked to YELLED at me about not being able to pay them more money. The staff are not adequately trained! Call several times and you will get a different story EVERY time on what you should do. They will leave you in the dark and transfer your case to a lawyer just so they can make more money off you. Pros: none Cons: everything more

Very Easy 5/16/2009

This was the third collections agency I have dealt with and honestly the first time I ever got a reasonable experience. Before I called, I calculated how much I could pay per month and how many months it would take to clear my debt. When I called, I got a very nice young lady on the phone who listened to me, did not interrupt, did not ask me how much money I had in the bank, or anything intrusive as most collections agencies do. I simply stated how much I can pay per month and within ten minutes I was set up with automatic withdrawal from my bank account on a monthly basis. They even allowed me to pick my date of payment so that it would be the day after I get my monthly paycheck. I was very pleased with this. I have tried to call on a weekend to arrange a slightly lower monthly payment to compensate for inflation of gas and groceries, but had to leave a message. You would think they would have some CSRs on hand during "off hours". Pros: No arguments or nosy questions from CSR Cons: No weekend business hours for customers to call more

Save your bucks 1/31/2009

They do not have an e mail nor a web site. A sign of a fear ridden company. Save your bucks when you call them and use their toll free number. 800-754-1915. All collections companies are evil. Pros: Not in my state Cons: A collection company, that's a con enough. more

Horrible Experience 8/24/2008

My husband and I both worked for First Collection Services ( also called International Computer Services), he was there for a year as a Collection Manager and was there for about 3 weeks. These people parctice un fair debt collecting, treat their employees badly, and don't pay worth anything (barely above minimun wage) Pros: Is located in an air condtioned building Cons: TOO MANY to list more

Rude, obnoxious customer service representative. 3/12/2008

I have a medical bill that this company is attempting to collect for. The bill was from 5 years ago and I didn't realize that it even existed. I am a graduate student who is married and has one child. My wife is disabled and not currently received any form of compensation. I drive over an hour to school and over an hour back home everyday. The gas expense alone is insane. We are living off of school loans, food stamps, medicaid, and section 8 housing. It took me humbling myself over the past year to accept any help. I couldn't watch my family go completely without over the past year and for the year to come, so I began receiving food stamps, etc. When the collection agency called, I told them that I would get another financial aid check coming in this past January and I would try and pay something on it. Unfortunately, due to a medical leave for an operation the semester before, I was given a much smaller amount than I normally am. When they called, I started to explain this, and the lady (Sherril or Shirl) began interupting and asking "What do you have left in your bank account that you can give us?" I responded, almost saying that I had only 600.00 to last me til the end of summer, and then realized that she was going too far. This information was none of her business. I told her "That really is beyond the scope of what you need to know." She stated, it is so my business since you decided to lie to us for the past three months!" I tried to explain that I didn't lie, I was just misinformed and was unaware that I would be shorted this semester. I couldn't even get that out! She repeated over and over "you are a lier" and "yes you did lie". I couldn't even get her to stop long enough to see if there was something reasonable I could pay until I got my next financial aid check at the end of March. Anyway, I thought it was terribly unprofessional, not to mention cruel and rude. Try to avoid this customer service representative at all costs! Pros: Front office staff are pleasant and helpful. I have paid two other accounts off working with other CSR's and received pleasant service and good discounts. Cons: It is sad that one CSR can make the entire company look bad, but a chain is only as strong as it's weakest link. more
