Beware of Scare Tactics! 2/6/2012

I have lived in the country most of my life with the only place to go for tires was Les Schwaab. When I moved to Portland, I thought I would look for another shop to support and I became a loyal customer of Firestone. I bought a set of 4 tires some years back. I got a flat tire a couple of years later. I could see that the side wall was compromised so I understood the need for a new tire but they talked me into two new tires due to the amount of wear on the other tires and the damage that could happen from being out of balance.\r \r I had a flat tire again this week. I could see that the puncture was in the tread not the sidewall. This time they said they didn't want to be responsible for me having a blowout with the sidewall compromised so a new tire was the only option. They wanted $167 for one tire! I needed a second opinion so I took the tire to Les Schwaab. They didn't see anything wrong with the sidewalls and they fixed it for $15 dollars.\r \r I can no longer recommend Firestone to more

I can no longer recommend Firestone to anyone, they use scare tactics to get you to spend unnecessary money. more

Lacking Quality for the $$$ 2/14/2011

The people that work in the office of this shop are nice, but the head mechanic is lazy. Some times I wonder if they even test drive my car further than a mile before they give it back to us. More than once, I've had to go back in the day afterwords to have them ""re-fix"" something. more

Capable, but watch your back 9/23/2010

I go here because they are capable of good work, and are convenient to my house. If you research tire deals and are a good bargainer, you can do well here. If you don't do your homework, well, it's a jungle out there. On repairs, watch for hidden fees that are tacked on later, like ""shop fees"", above the original estimate. more

They make you pay extra for everything including warranty they won't honor. 5/23/2007

Everytime I have gone to a Firestone tires I have been hit by a sales pitch that usually goes something like this: "We can't just sell you a new tire or even two new tires since it would be unsafe to send your car out on the road with one or more worn tires combined with new, unworn tires. So you really need to buy a whole set of tires in order to be completely safe."\r Then they sold me 4 $34.00 tires which ended up costing over $265.00 once you add up all the hidden "fees", balancing, stems, etc... Then they have the nerve to sell you a tire repair and replacement warranty (which places like Les Schwab will give you for free). When I went in to this Firestone the other day to redeem my warranty for a tire that got a hole in the sidewall they refused to put a new tire on my car since the cheapest tire they had in stock was supposedly $65. So instead of eating the cost of not having their store properly stocked in tires of all pricepoints - they demanded that I head back out on the road more

Small on appearance, Big on service 7/25/2005

Seemingly to be a 'run down' and dirty facility when I drove up. I almost turned around! Regardless, I took my car in and despite many cars in the bays and the small lot, I was greeted while exiting my car and taken into the service shop. The individual was attentive, and had a true sense of concern for my need. My vehicle was tended to in 20 minutes, and completed 25 minutes later. Very good service, and I didn't feel like I was getting conned into more work then was needed, which is a common experience I've had a car shops as a woman. PROS: Fast, honest, attentive and knowledgeable technicians CONS: Small lot to get into, very dirty "counter" area more

need new tires and have a price in mind....they will come through 7/24/2005

ok so i was in need of four new tires and being a single mom dont have a lot of money to throw away. i took the chance to call them and ask what they were charging for 4 tires which would be of a good brand and last a while for me. they asked what i could pay and i said i only have $200. the gentleman said bring the money down when you are ready and i will work something out for you. i went there two days later and they gave me a brand of tire i later found out was at least 89. a tire. i made out very well and am very thankful. i sent a letter to the company as well. PROS: very nice crew and efficient work CONS: none more

Free tune-up, my ace. 6/29/2005

I come in there for an annual check up on my car, mostly because i have a new part replaced in my engine so i want o make sure that part is working fine. The mechanic who was doing the check up for me was ok. he did greet me though. But what upset me is that there was this other guy who offer free tune up for my car, so i said sure. After he did the tune up, or whatever he does, i was frustrated to see the bill. He charged me for that 'Free' tune up. When i ask him, he said that 's only for when you do combine service. Well it's too late now. That was a really stupid experience for me. more

Don't use these guys!!! 6/7/2005

The mechanics here screwed up my car so bad on a tune up, that when I drove away, my 4 cylinder was driving on 2 cylinders all the way home! I was so distraught that my little car was ruined. The manager did accept full responsibility, but the mechanic refused to acknowledge he did anything wrong. Steer clear of these guys! more
