Fins 5/18/2011

We eat at Fins weekly and enjoy the service and the food. It would be nice if they would expand their menu to include a half sandwich with a cup of chowder. We especially enjoy the friendliness of the waitresses that make the atmosphere hospitable. \r \r We definitely recommend this restaurant for its quality and great service. more

The Best Fish'n Chips 1/25/2010

I hink Fins has some of the best fish'n chips in Sacramento. The place is pricey but the fish is flown in from Alaska everyday. You pay for the quality. If people are concerned about price and not the way it tastes then I suggest that you go to Tugboat for mystery fish. Try Fins!! Pros: Awesome Fish and Chips more

I have had better seafood in Livingston, CA 10/24/2007

This really ought to be a .15 star. Had the fish tacos which were the worst I have had in my life. Soggy, overcooked mystery fish topped with runny coleslaw. Simply inedible. The staff was unconcerned and the food is overpriced. Save your money for that great seafood in the city!\r \r Cons: Cafeteria style seating with tacky nautical scheme more

Great Fish 6/12/2007

I'll agree with some other reviewers that the decor isn't that snazzy and the service is alright but probably not great. But what makes this restaurant great is the quality and the selection of fish. It's simply seasoned and grilled, served with some lemon and tartar sauce. There's no fancy sauces or elaborate side dishes to bury the flavor of the fish.\r \r Most fish places around here offer the same few types of fish (salmon, halibut, tilapia, etc.). Fins has a much larger selection, including a lot of types I haven't seen anywhere else in this area (The Opah, Opakapaka, and Escolar caught my attention).\r \r I guess it comes down to what you're looking for. If you're looking for a cheap dinner, a romantic atmosphere, or elaborately presented meals, then Fins might not be for you. But if you just want really good seafood, then I don't know of anywhere better. more

Not a chance... 5/25/2007

A recent coupon mailer brought me in to the restaurant on a Friday night. We had been to the restaurant some time before and the coupon for big $$$ off the meal was the only thing that brought us back. Silly me, I didn't read the fine print; ""except on Fridays and holidays."" The waitress informed us bluntly that the coupon was ""not honored on Fridays"" and that I should have read closer. OK, insult to injury, but I pressed on... ""Can you ask your manager if there is any other deal you can extend."" No dice...\r \r We finished our beers and left, NEVER to return! (By the way, my previous trip to the restaurant yielded tiny portions, -0- ambience, mediocre minus service and a plastic sensibility that would be much more in line at a Jimboy's than a pricey fish restaurant.\r \r But the evening ended on a high note as we travelled down the road about a mile to Scotts and had a great meal with excellent service and beautiful surroundings. By my calculations we paid a total of $6.00 more for a much nicer meal and experience.\r \r The sign in Fins announced that they had opened other locations around town... How in the world do places like this stay in business let alone expand? Boggles the mind! Pros: Fresh Fish Cons: Prices, Service, Ambience more

Also Disappointed 4/1/2007

I would have to agree with the previous review. We went to the new Roseville location (8680 Sierra College Blvd) because of the positive reviews in the local newspaper. However, we had a very disappointing experience. The atmosphere was like a fast food restaurant with servers - there was no tablecloth or placemat and hard metal chairs - all tables were extremely small - yet, the prices were more in line with a moderate priced restaurant with a better atmosphere. We got the fish, chips and slaw. It was served in a plastic basket with no bread offering. They wanted $1.95 to substitute vegetables for the french fries. The portions were small and we left hungry. However, the worst part was the Alaskan Cod was tough - I have never had seafood with the consistency of rubber before - the waiter made to offer to replace it when we complained. I would never return here and would not recommend it - for the poor atmosphere, high prices, and poorly prepared seafood. Pros: Best tasting tartar sauce - not much else. Cons: Poor value, poorly prepared food, fast food atmosphere. more

Very Dissapointed 3/25/2007

We had dinner here recently and the portions were very small and there was no flavor. The price was way too high. Bread was served in a blastic basket, and beverages were served in Coke glassess with crushed ice. Maybe I'm just too picky, but for the price I could have gone somewhere else. It's rare I write a bad review, but this one called for it. My family was so dissapointed all we could do was complain all the way home. Oh well. There not every restaurant lives up to your expectations. Pros: I truely can't think of one except it was close to my house Cons: expensive and small portions more
