Romantic spot 12/21/2008

Charming, romantic place with a fireplace and white tableclothes. Located in historic Andrews Hotel, 2 blocks from Union Square. We were served bread with a house made dipping sauce. It's so yummie becareful not to fill up. Wonderful pasta dishes made with fresh pasta. I had the pasta with mushrooms, tomatoes and panchetta in a creamy tomato sauce, my friend had the special fish of the day, Sea Bass. Fish was cooked perfectly and served over amazing fresh vegtables. Very nice wine list and full bar. Friendly, professional staff. Reasonable price, too! We are making this our ""go to"" spot in SF. Pros: Great location, near theaters and Union Square Cons: Have reservations or you may not get in more

Great Atmosphere, Make reservations 12/11/2006

Went on a Sunday night and sat at the bar because I did not make reservations...make reservations. Started with a Pinot Grigio and the Caprese salad, both were excellent. For dinner I had the Salmone Saltado (salmon with a lemon, butter, caper sauce) it was ok, but I was not expecting spectacular with such a common, simple dish. The sauce was the perfect flavor and the salmon perfectly cooked. The staff was very nice and the atmosphere was cozy and romantic. A little pricier than I would like for a Sunday night, my bill was $44, with only 2 glasses of wine and no dessert. Pros: atmosphere, staff Cons: make reservations more

great, fine italian place 4/1/2005

just visited this place on 3/30/05 with my parents, and was highly impressed with it. it's located at the andrews hotel on post street, and like the hotel, has an european feel. the service is very friendly, the food excellent (as well as extensive menu). i will definitely visit this place again - a nice alternative to other places close to union square. Pros: food, service, decor more

warm, old-school italian 11/28/2003

Just got back from dinner w/my husband & his parents after seeking a place to eat after a union square holiday walk to see the tree & holidiay window displays. We 1st had a drink at Le Coloniel (directly behind, in the alley). I recommend arriving early to do this as well. Our waiter was perfectly attentive. The food was tasty. We shared 2 salads 4 ways & had the calamari. Please get the calamari - very tasty. The only negative was w/the pasta. Each dish came with a different pasta, but all were overcooked by at least 5 minutes. It made us wonder if there was any true italian direction. You may wonder then, - why the high score? Well, everything else - the seafood, the pinot grigio, the service - wonderful! If they get the pasta timing correct - they would be exceptional. more

A Neighborhood Favorite 7/9/2003

After several years of living in the Lower Nob Hill/Theatre District, my partner and I finally decided to try the little Italian restaurant we'd walked past dozens of times. We just wonder what took us so long! Fino's menu isn't very adventurous, but every one of the familiar dishes is well-executed, and the service is extremely friendly and efficient. The ambience is what sets Fino apart - from the street, you can't see the rear dining room, but if you can get a seat back there by the romantic fireplace, be sure to do so. Fino is a great choice after shopping downtown or before a show. Pros: Romantic ambience, Service, Dish execution Cons: Conventional menu more
