I've been going to Fido since its opening. No offense to Bongo Bob, but I think the ex-pet shop's best days are behind it. There are certainly more interesting places to people-...

Don't waste your time or money 9/5/2010

Surprised to see so many good reviews. Went to Fido today-the service is horrible. They are rude and act like they don't need your business. Of course it was busy because of Sunday brunch, but we ordered a pretty simple meal-pancakes and bacon and my bf ordered fried eggs, hash browns, toast and bacon. His eggs were completely overcooked-the middle was hard, hash browns are just cut up baked potatoes and not so great bacon. I ordered a vanilla latte which is usually OK, but I think I picked up someone else's coffee at the bar. When I told them it was the wrong thing I got interrogated as to what I thought it was and was treated horribly. Our table had not been wiped off and when we asked for them to clean it, the server only cleaned half the table and left a piece of bread and an empty coffee mug. I love to support a local business and would love for Fido to be great, especially for brunch, but I will NOT be returning and would suggest that its not worth the time or the more

They don't need your business and they act like it 8/10/2010

As someone who spends 5 days a week meeting in coffee shops all around nashville, I can safely say that Fido is the among the worst in nashville. It, of course, depends on what you are looking for so if you just need to pop in for a cup of coffee and then be on your way then fido will do. And given all the factors that make up fido, my bet is that its owners, who clearly care most of all about making money, would prefer you not to stick around either. This is evident in its purposefully uncomfortable environment. The seats are packed closely together (despite the shop taking up nearly 4 store fronts) which are all wooden for maximum ""get butts out of the seatness."" There are no couches or interesting seating areas. They once had plugs but removed them to keep people like myself who sometimes need to plug in from staying any longer than my battery would allow. The staff attitudes are the worst part. They have so much business that they could care less if you are treated like a valued customer. Don't believe me? Slip your foot outside your sandal and see how long it takes for a waitress of manager to come over and tell you to ""put your shoes back on."" They will be sure to say it as if Fido where a 5 star restaurant too. Then again, I know of several 5 star restaurants that feel less policed than Fido. I hate to say it, but Starbucks down the street is LESS corporate feeling than Fido. more

Love Hillsboro Village's Fido 10/21/2009

My sister and I recently visited Nashville for the All For the Hall Concert and read that the breakfasts at Fido's were fantastic. Rachel Ray had recommended the brother shop (Bongo Cafe), but because we wanted a really good breakfast we chose to try Fido's. We are so glad that we did. If we had had more time, we would have gone back again and again. Next time we go to Nashville this is definitely going to be our spot. The Huevos Cubana was wonderful and my sister got the blueberry pancakes. Check out their menu on Fido's website. Of course, the coffee was a highlight and the prices were very reasonable. Pros: Great Atmosphere, Very Friendly and Cozy Cons: None - Great Hang out Place more

Love their changing specials! 5/21/2009

I have read some of the other reviews on this site, and I am surprised by them. I can't speak to the quality of the coffee because I don't drink it, but I love the hot tea selections they have, and I have had a great chai tea latte and some yummy steamers here. I am really surprised about the reviews that say that the service is slow or surly. I have never had a surly person either take my order at the counter or deliver food to my table. The people at the counter are always super nice and friendly and the servers that walk around usually stop back by after delivering the food to check on it and I've had several bring me more water for my tea. I am not sure whether the people writing the bad reviews have had bad isolated experiences or whether I expect good things and so good things happen. That said, the main reason that I wanted to write this review is the food that they have on the specials menu that changes every day. This menu usually contains local ingredients, and everything that I have tried from there has been DELICIOUS. I also don't find it that expensive to pay 11.99 for a good piece of fish that is well flavored and a salad. Food of this caliber would cost that much or more in some places. I also appreciate that the portion sizes aren't out of control. I usually feel the right amount of full when I eat something off the special menu. I have also really enjoyed the cakes/cookies/bars that I've tried. Fido is also a cool place to grab a beer at night if you are going for something more casual/relaxed and less smoky than a bar. The beer selection can feel limited, but it's good enough. I love Fido and will continue to go here. Pros: Awesome food, good service Cons: Not any that would keep me from going here more

YUMMMMMMMMMMM 9/22/2008

My godmother took us here. I am so glad we went. It was a great little place. I really enjoyed the food, the staff, everything. Perfect place to enjoy a meal and it's eco friendly. Love it!!! Pros: great place, great staff, good price more

WONDERFUL for breakfast! 7/27/2008

You wouldn't think a place called ""Fido"" would be so good for breakfast, but it's one of the best in Nashville! We've tried almost everything on the menu, and it has yet to disappoint. From the simple bagel breakfast sandwiches to the sit-down-and-eat meals, it's all delicious. The coffee menu is also creative and tasty, and the atmosphere is fun and comfortable. A great place to study or hang out, where you know the food and coffee will always be great! Pros: Delicious food & coffee, great service & atmosphere Cons: It's called ""Fido,"" but you can't carry your dog in (even just to order quickly) more

overpriced, don't order the salad.... 4/7/2008

Overpriced salad arrived after about 15 minutes during a slow time.\r It was small and insignificant, not worth 8.99 and the waitress was surly.Coffee is good, so stick with that. Cons: parking is challenging, pricey. more

Good Food, Bad Service 3/18/2008

I am a local Nashvillin and live near Fido. I have given this coffee house so many chances but they consistently fail in one area - service. This is one of the main, if not the mother ship, coffee house for The Village and Vanderbilt. I really love the coffee and food here which is why I want Fido to correct its biggest flaw, the service. Parking is just not going to happen for you behind the storefront, so don't try. (And please stop trying to pull out of the parking lot onto Hillsboro Pike and make a left towards Belmont - you will screw up traffic for those of us that drive through The Village several times a day) Park behind the Belcourt and you will be fine to walk the short distance. Once you get inside, the line can get a little long but they do move. The biggest problem comes when you do order; it takes them on average 20 - 30 min to get anything to you. I have ordered two cups of coffee before and it took 25 Min!! I have ordered two breakfast items with some coffee and it took 30 min! Fido is never staffed by the same employees week to week which may lend to the disorganization. The Free WIFI and the abundance of seating is a big plus. The changing wall paper of local artist is also a nice touch. Overall, I rate this coffee house a 4 out of 5 with the missing star attributed to their horrible service. If you want the 5/5 star coffee house in the area, take the extra 3 min drive to Bongo Java. Pros: Best Coffee, Great Food, and WiFi Cons: Horrible Service and No Parking more

Food is good, fun atmosphere, coffee is the worst in the city. 3/8/2008

First the good. The menu has been expanded and has some really good things on it- I love the fish tacos and the eggs benedict. The muffins are always good and there is always a decent cake selection (would like to see pies, though)...\r \r For a coffee shop, it is an open secret that Fido's, and Bongo Java in particular, have the worst coffee in Nashville. I do not understand why this is, as other places use their beans and do not taste as bad. Several times the coffee has been undrinkable due to its overly bitter and acrid taste, like the coffee had been sitting too long or perhaps roasted too long. I've been going to Fidos and company since they opened, and it really seems the coffee component is really going down hill.\r \r Bob brought coffee to Nashville, I just wish they'd get their act together.\r \r So for Coffee, I would place Crema at the top (best coffee and service), Provence (great coffee!), Sam and Zoe's (more comfortable than Provence and better service), Portland Brew (good stuff, but menu was cut back and the people at the 12 south location are kinda attitude-y if you're not in a band ;) ), any truck stop, then Bongo.\r \r Bongo/ Fido have the market- they are fun places to go as they are typically packed, they have good food (and beer at Fido!), but please, stay away from the coffee. Maybe if we boycott they'll start making it good again- everyone wins! more

Slow and expensive 2/19/2008

I love Fido for their food. It's tasty, plentiful and relatively fast. So go there and get your grub on. It's the coffee that I have an issue with. First of all, if you order a latte, they give you a pager to let you know when it's ready. It takes about 10-15 minutes which to me seems a bit excessive. Oh, and it costs about $4-$5 for a medium which is a bit ridiculous. I also had some of their coffee the last time I was there from the self-serve station. It was awful. It tasted weak and old. I will continue to go to Fido for my 3:00 cake fix or my breakfast burrito craving, but I think I'll stay away from the coffee. more

Coffee Not So Good, The Wait was Even Worse 1/22/2008

Fido's has a wonderful reputation but unfortunately on this occasion, it wasn't well deserved.\r \r A group of us went out to grab a coffee for a break from work and twenty minutes after ordering, were still waiting (pagers in hand). When we eventually got our coffee, it wasn't even that great. They need to have more than one person making the coffee. We didn't even go at peak time either, this was mid-afternoon. Also, what's with not showing the prices on the menu? We all found that a little odd.\r \r If you're going to spend some time there rather than just a grab n go then it's probably a good place, but if you're looking to make a quick exit then avoid Fido's. more

great coffee and relaxed atmosphere 12/27/2007

I love Fido's! They have great breakfast foods- omelets, english muffin with poached eggs, stuffed bagels, and much more. They also have great muffins, brownies, and cookies. The coffee is excellent too. They have a wide selection of breakfast drinks- organic juices and such. I love how everyone is relaxed and reading or studying. It does get a little crowded at times, but you can still get your food pretty fast. Pros: good breakfast, artsy feel Cons: crowded at times more

Fun atmosphere and Good food. 9/26/2007

Been twice now, great food and coffee. The food is very fresh. Nice waitstaff. A bit crowded on Sundays, I imagine because the food is good. Only problem is food takes a very long time to be served. Including coffee. Love the menu options. Pros: Great food and menu, relaxed atmosphere Cons: Very slow service more

Fido is GREAT no matter what the outlet haters say.... 5/27/2007

Fido might have gotten rid of their power outlets in order to service the masses of other paying customers who would like to sit down and eat a meal or drink their coffee rather than cater to the small group of individuals who like to take up an entire table in order to make their office away from home. There's nothing wrong with getting some work done at Fido, just charge your battery and sit at the bar for crying out loud!\r \r Fido has an amazing staff who is always smiling amidst the cell-phone talkers in line and the quad skinny extra hot hazelnut lattes with no foam and 2 speldas. For what they have to put up with and the amount of money they make, Fido employees are doing an excellent job! \r Pros: Organic/Fair Trade coffee + Great service more

Bring the power plugs back, or else... not a place to take your laptop. 5/18/2007

Great ambience, no power for laptops. Get with the picture Fido, wooof wooof, why should I stop by if you insult my needs? more

Great: ambiance, Food!, free WiFi... not so Good: no power outlets! 5/5/2007

I used to love Fido's! It's food is good, not too pricey... Coffee is good. Now they even have wine and beers. Their cakes are awesome. The service is great. It was a great place to go get some coffee, read a book or bring your laptop to check your email or do some work. But now they don't have power outlets anymore to plug in your computer! It doesn't make any sense to me! Today, I wanted to do some work and I didn't want to stay at home or go to the office so I thouhgt I'll go to Fido's! I'll have lunch, have coffee.. eventually have some cake and be working all along. At the end of the run, I would've probably had some cidre before heading home. Low-key, productive afternoon. I got there and after having lunch I discovered that the only outlet that I could find had no running electricity. My day was ruined! There were only a few people around so hogging a table for more than a couple of hours wouldn't have mattered. I didn't have cake nor cider. Fido's manager is missing out by taking out the outlets. What a disappointment... I'll be a long time until I return to Fido's. Pros: ambiance, service, food, coffee, free wifi Cons: NO POWER OUTLETs!, a little noisy more

No power outlets available for laptops 4/10/2007

WiFi internet is free, but they covered up all the power outlets so they're not accessible, which is lame. Pros: good good, coffee, etc Cons: no power outlets available to laptop users more

wonderful food, somewhat crowded 12/22/2006

I took my family there for breakfast a few days ago...they loved it! Only complaint is the crowd....took us awhile to find appropriate seating. more

Good place for coffee and breakfast foods 11/25/2006

I have nothing but good things to say about FIDO. Unique atmosphere and concept. I think some mornings lines are a bit long for coffee alone. The muffins are great. I would happily wait on that line though. I wish there were hundreds of FIDO but then it would be just like those other guys................. Pros: COOOOFFFFFFEEEEEEE Cons: coming down from coffee more

Good coffee, good food, okey service 11/25/2006

Fido has good coffee, they have a diverse menu, food is good, but the staff looks so busy that it seems like they don't know what they are doing....the place was so busy I had to seat down all the way in the back, after they brought our food, we were still waiting for our coffee, which they won't bring it to your table, they will call your name (your dog name) so since we were all the way in the back we had to stop eating every other minute and walk to the front to see if our coffees were ready.... Pros: Good variety, good coffee... Cons: the place lacks organization more
