Fernbank Museum 4/12/2011

Fernbank Museum's phone number is 404.929.6300 for information and 404.929.6400 for tickets. The number listed above is incorrect. Also, the Planetarium/Observatory are part of the DeKalb County School System's Fernbank Science Center which IS NOT affiliated with the Fernbank Museum of Natural History, a private, not-for-profit museum with lots of wonderful things to explore and discover! more

IMAX-ARABIA 7/15/2010

ARABIA IMAX title is very misleading. I thought I was going to experience the ancient tombs, lost cities and beauty of the desert. It was a push on the Muslim faith and their journey to Mecca. The agenda here is to promote the Islamic beliefs. If we were promoting the Christian faith everyone would be forcing the movie to be shut down. The Christian and Jewish community should be appalled over this film. more

Imax at Fernbank 2/15/2010

Fernbank museum is very exciting, mostly thier science center. The movies played at Imax at fernbank are incredible, the screens are large with the best surround sound. more

Small theater, big screen 5/25/2009

This theater is about half the size of the megaplex, which really pushes the size of Imax. Being inside an amazing museum really finishes off the piece. It is just outside downtown Decatur.\r \r A great experience more

Great Place to take the Family 4/3/2009

My family and I enjoyed the day at the museum, the exhibition is always changing. \r \r The children enjoyed seeing the Dinosaurs and the Children's Interactive room. I enjoyed seeing the fish and shells display. We all had a ball learning about the Arctic and Antarctica along with the Polar Bears and the Penguins. Pros: Something for all ages more

Definitely go to Imax at Fernbank 1/7/2009

I recommend Fernbank Imax. The movies they show are great, I've seen a few. The martini nights are very fun also. Fernback is a great place and its great for all ages. more

great experience 8/5/2008

great place.... the sight and sound museum was wonderful... i have not been since the 6th grade but i i still remember. more

Great setting but not a great museum 7/15/2008

Sorry to say I have to agree with earlier posters who expect to see a world class history museum and are entirely let down after paying the enterence fee. Yes, the Fernbank boasts a beautifully natural setting. What it does not offer is any type of insightful or intriguing displays, nothing to really draw a visitor in to the vast learning experience that should be offered here. If it were a free museum, I'd call it a draw and enjoy the nice drive up the winding hill and beautiful scenery on the grounds. But it's not and the curator here should really examine what he or she is trying to do. Pros: spectacular setting Cons: overall, a real let down more

Great Wedding Facility 7/7/2008

I love Martinis & IMAX & had to write a review after seeing the fantastic grand canyon one. Martinis & Imax is a perfect date night- especially with the live music & cocktails before the show. I?ve been several times since moving to Atlanta and it's one of my top favorite activities in the city. \r \r I actually just attended a beautiful wedding at Fernbank- who knew Fernbank was an ideal location for a wedding ceremony and reception?! The wedding was at the front of the museum overlooking the front lawn, and the reception was in the huge foyer which was perfect for the band & food setup- the bride & groom entered the reception down the gorgeous winding staircase. The band had a perfect setup towards the back of the foyer. I highly recommend Fernbank to any bride-to-be looking for an awesome place to have the wedding & reception. Pros: Great event facility & museum Cons: Wish Martinis & Imax was on Saturdays too more

Blown Away! 5/16/2008

I've seen a couple different films here at the IMAX, and it's quite an experience! You wouldn't believe how huge the screen is. The best kind of films to see here are the ones that are breathtaking in their scenery... The only drawback is that you can get dizzy if you're sensitive, but they tell you ahead of time that you should just look away from the screen and close your eyes. I recommend getting a seat towards the back, because it's pretty much impossible to see most of the screen if you're in the front half of the seating area. more

Atlanta can do better in terms of a natural history museum 5/13/2008

this is a very unfortunate representation of a natural history museum. were are the exhibits? one very large dinosaur skeleton and that about raps up your visit. I am disturbed by the lack of artifacts and exhibits especially after having grown up with natural history museums found in Chicago and Cleveland to base a comparison on. is it lack of funding that prevented this from being a world class natural history museum? I say atlanta should really be able to command better. Pros: beautiful building Cons: lack of exhibits, attractions, over priced more

Hasn't changed in ages! 1/17/2008

This place has been the same forever. If you've been once you've been a thousand and one times. If you have young children who haven't been this is a great place. The nature trail is great. Make sure you bring water for this adventure. They really need to up grade. more

Great Date Night 12/18/2007

I recently went here on a date night. The martinis and live music were great! The Imax theater after a few cocktails is a fun experience. I recommend it to anyone to give it a try. more

Great for weddings! 11/8/2007

I went to a wedding and this place was incredible. There is so much to look at and see here. This place can also be romantic if you have wine before IMAX. I highly recommend taking kids here also. Pros: everything, wine, exhibits, staff, Cons: nothing more

Take the kids it's worth the trip 10/30/2007

I have to admit that my wife made me go to the museum and I thought it would be awful! When we got there she made us become members of the museum so we would have free admission and other perks the next time we visited the museum. Much to my surprise it was pretty cool and the kids really enjoyed theirselves as they learned about history and nature. The membership has more than paid for it's self since we have been 3 times this year. The events are really nice and I would recommend the Imax movies. Pros: Great events and fun for the whole family more

Educational 5/1/2007

This museum offers an educational experience to children and even adults. The showcase is on dinosaurs, but they also have areas for toddler play, interesting science stuff, and understanding other cultures. It is much smaller than the Museum of Natural History in New York or Washington,DC. more

Neat Science Center 2/7/2006

This is one of the nation's largest planetariums with Observatory, Exhibit Hall and Forest with walking trails. The planetarium is awesome. Your children will love it. The story line is great. Learn about geology, meteorology and seismology . When they have the dinosaur exhibit, its wondeful. Admission to public planetarium programs: $4 for adults, $3 for students and seniors, free for members. It's hard to explain all thet they offer but its great. Your children will love it. PROS: Great for Children CONS: more

Fernbank is a wonderful place to take visitors to our city. The IMAX films are always awesome. We have enjoyed many of the exhibits over the years and found them to be very entertaining and educational. more

Neat museum & venue 11/22/2005

This is a neat mueseum that has dinosaur bones and other artifacts. There is also an IMAX theater, and they "Martinis at IMAX" every Friday night which is a lot of fun. more

Really an educational and fascinating museum 11/21/2005

We're really amazed when we first visited this museum. They have got so much to see and learn from. We love to bring our son and nephews and nieces there whenever they come to visit Atlanta. All the children love this place. The museum offers great educational programs for children, an excellent choice for family outing as well. A great place to visit for those who love anything and everything about dinosaurs. Host special events from time to time. Martinis and IMAX also available. You can even host a kid's birthday party there. Highly recommended to everyone. more
