Lefty's need not apply 3/8/2011

If your looking to buy a $300 guitar, this is not the place for you. If your looking to buy a Taylor, than this is the place for you. No doubt, these guys know guitars and equiptment but the impression that I got from visiting a few years ago when I was first starting out, dont come in, if your too new and or not willing to spend the moula. I hadn't been back since. But this is not a bad reivew. Just that there are other shops in the area that better cater to your needs when just starting out. With that being said, now that I been playing a few years so I understand music and know exactly what I want, when I needed some work done on my guitar that required a luthier, I went to back to fat sounds on a recommendation and I couldnt be happier. Mark (the fat sounds luthier) does excellent work. HIghly recommend. I would definitly go back or recommend. as usual lefty's are left out at this shop hehe not a bad thing saved lots of money not buying on impulse I guess. more

Fantastic guitar resource 2/16/2011

I have had a long relationship with Fat Sound Guitars. It is a true boutique shop offering outstanding service, excellent products, and unparalleled knowledge and expertise on guitars and amplifiers. From my first experience with Stu and the guys 12 years ago, it was refreshingly clear they were all about understanding my needs and ensuring I got the right gear to attain my ""tone goal"". This relationship continued long after my initial purchase with their commitment to helping me dial in my gear. Fat Sound Guitar's luthier, Mark, is a master at his craft. He has done a lot of work on many of my guitars including re-fretting vintage Fenders and Gibsons, and always with great results. As part of my travels across most of the united states over the past 2 decades, I have made it a point to visit as many guitar shops as I can. I have found many great shops and knowledgeable people, but I have yet to find a more valuable resource than fat Sound. I offer my highest recommendation. more

Bad repairs, cool gear, dont expect competitive prices. 11/23/2010

My main issue is with their tech. i had my Gibson SG std refretted with his recommended fret material. He suggested a type 'superior' to the std stuff and since he said he used to work on planes or something I went along. Th repair took fr longer than it was supposed to and my hardshell case was wrecked when I got it back. \r \r To be fair I should've bitched about it but I was in shock. Got it home and it sounded like garbage, like another guitar altogether. I guess I could've taken it back to see how much more damage he was capable of but I decided against it.\r \r Beware of letting the 'nasa-tech' near your guitar. \r \r Another time when I purchased a Boss (I know, not boutique..BOOO!) I asked the guy to pricematch guitarcenter. By his reaction (little short chucky dark blondish haired guy) you'd think I said the N word. Mr. Nice 'N Chunky also flippantly (rudely) told me the coated tips for the george L cables sound terrible so he doesnt carry them...Uh....ok....glad he's not letting inaudible hype influence his business practice and customer service. \r \r I'll stick to the internet for highend stuff. \r \r more

Great store, great selection, excellent service 11/6/2009

The guys at Fat Sound know customer service. I have not had this good an experience in customer service from any store, much less any guitar store. They provide great advice based on your needs. After the sale, if you have any issues at all, they go above and beyond to make sure you are happy with your purchase. I will never buy a guitar or amp from another store, it's not worth the risk. I can leave there each time satisfied that it was money well spent, and that they will stand behind my purchase. You would be hard pressed to find a guitar store more knowledgeable about tone, and to include the excellent service with it is just the icing on the cake. Pros: Great selections, excellent advice, great follow-up service more

Fantastic inventory paired with immaculate knowledge 9/21/2009

The guys at fat sound have always been top notch. I've been frequenting the store for the last 8 or so years, and have never had a bad experience. The things they stock in the store are of the absolute highest quality. They stock lots of things that are very difficult to get from other places, and do lots of online business as well. Don't be misled though - there's lots of high end equipment, but it's also an appropriate place to find a guitar for a beginner, or an upgrade from a beginner's guitar. They do a good job of catering to as many people as possible. The staff there is always a pleasure. Each one of them know me by name, and are always willing to answer any questions I've ever had - no matter how big or small of a question. They treat each customer like a member of their own family, I've never been let down by their service. Stu, Mike A, and Mike G have always done an excellent job with the store. Do yourself a favor and visit the store, or at least their website if you ever get the chance! Pros: Great stock, Knowledgable Staff, No sales pressure more

Best boutique gutiar and amp dealer on the east coast 9/20/2009

Beyond just the fantastic gear in the store, I have to say that Stu, Mike, and Mike are probably the most knowledgeable, professional, and unique individuals I have ever seen running a store. You walk in and you are not assaulted by some pimple faced teenager or a ""sales guy"" who has no clue about anything and jsut wants to push equipment...you are greated by guys who are PASSIONATE about what they do. They ALL very genuinely care about every customer that comes in the door. Their advice is beyond reproach, they truly use the products they preach about and truly care about musicians in general. They want what is best for the entire industry, not just themselves. They ensure every instrument that leaves is as good as it can possibly be, from the 200 dollar strat packs to 5000 dollar guitars. You absolutely CANNOT go wrong in placing your trust in ANY of the employees of this store. I have talked with satisfied customers quite literally the WORLD over that rave about the service they received from FatSound. Their reputation is very hard earned, but VERY well deserved. Also, the Luther dept and lessons are absolutely top notch also!! I have let Mark Kane work on every single one of my guitars and wouldn't trust ANYONE else except for possibly the builder to handle any repair or adjustment Pros: Extremely knowledeable staff, awesome store stock Cons: way too close to my house, dangerous to my bank acct!! more

Fat Sound Guitars is the house of tone! 9/20/2009

Fat Sound Guitars is special because they focus on what they know and they know guitars and guitar products. They always have the very best selection of guitars and the staff is extremely knowledgeable about the products they sell. They've got great pricing but it is their dedication to the customer that keeps me coming back. Stu, Mike, and Mike ... my hat's off you to. You guys really do make that store THE place to shop. Pros: Guitars, amps and store personnel Cons: They are not open 24 hours a day more

Hands down the best place for perfect tone 9/20/2009

In looking for some new toys I did what I ALWAYS do first. I stopped into Fat Sound Guitars and asked my stock first question... ""What did you guys get in that's cool?"" The great thing about Fat Sound is they KNOW their customers. They knew I was in the market for a relatively inexpensive second/backup/practice rig and a good tremolo pedal. Right away they made several suggestions. The New Vox 4w Combo Amp, The Vox Night Train and matching Cab and the latest (like very new) trem pedal from Effectrode - The Delta Trem. Having a hard time deciding what to buy I just took them all (no sales pressure by the way - that doesn't happen here.) Needless to say all the purchases were dead on for what I needed. Stu, Mike and the rest of the fellas at Fat Sound always come through and never try to sell you what you don't need. And yes after much discussion with my wife we have determined that from time to time I NEED new toys! Been a customer for many years. And I have been steered wrong. Thanks fellas! Pros: Knowledgeable staff, no hard sells, best gear! Cons: Not close enough to my house! :D more

Do not take your children to Fat Sound! 9/19/2009

If your child damages a guitar, they try to make you buy it....even if it costs $3000. Cons: Expensive Guitars within reach of children more
