fresh, delicious, quick delivery!

I gave 2 stars based on my experience with what I ordered. I was excited to try a new place and was looking for a nice salad. I got the Golden Beet Salad and there were some large...

Do it live! 10/14/2008

I don't know where all the negativity is coming from, because I certainly won't echo it. The place was great. No sourdough rolls?? Not true on my trip. I got a couple fresh, chewy sourdough rolls on my table moments after sitting down. The decor was very classy. And the food, of course... Great stuff. I had a chicken carbonara linguini, which I thought was fantastic, and when I leaned over to try some of my girlfriend's baked penne, I was sorry I hadn't ordered it! Superb!! Can't wait to go back and try some of the other dishes that sounded tasty... Pros: Decor, Service speed, food quality Cons: none worth noting more

Loved the food, service & atmosphere 9/27/2008

In further detail:\r \r Food: Mouthwatering from start (home-made rolls, FRESH out of the oven) to finish (best fourless chocolate cake EVER. PERIOD!) And everything in-between (loved the dressing on the dinner salad and meatballs were spiced just right)\r \r Service: Attentive and friendly, with excellent recommendations.\r \r Atmosphere: Ambiance is something the Valley desparately needs more of, which makes the ""new and improved"" Fab's an extra-welcome addition. The combination of colors, lighting, big windows, and new layout make for a great city vibe. A great place to take a date. In fact, my husband is taking me there tonight. more

Disappointed 9/20/2008

We returned to the restaurant with friends last evening. We were excited as we had been regular customers for many, many years. The decor is fabulous. The food and service were superb. But...the noise level was so bad, we could not even hear each other in a booth with high sides. The bus boys slammed the dishes in the containers, dropped plates at the clean-up stations, and there are no carpets or buffers for the hard floors and high ceilings. In addition, the warm sour-dough rolls are gone, replaced by very, very salty white bread ""muffins"" or something like Wonder bread in a roll form. The waitress explained that the cost of the old rolls became prohibitive. Lame excuse. Charge for them or, since prices were already increased at the remodeled cafe, why didn't they take this cost into consideration. We'll find another neighborhood place. Pros: Food and Service Good Cons: Noise Level, Price more

Fabs is now open 9/19/2008

I have been a loyal customer to Fabs for years. I always knew I could always depend upon them to deliver good food and never cared about their prices. After all, good food is worth it and the old FABs never left you disappointed. Well now we have the new Fabs. I called them and they assured me they were one in the same. No real change in menu just a change in decor. Well that got me excited because I miss the old Fab food so I ordered up my usual, chopped salad, meatballs and garlic bread. How the hell can you mess that up? Well they did. I?m so disappointed with them. The meatballs were so dry they had to smother them with sauce hoping you would not notice. The garlic bread was old, dry and burnt. Not what you would expect from such a place. \r \r I?m so upset because I really wanted to give the new Fabs a great review but I can?t. On a scale on 1 to 10 they are a 4. \r Pros: The Old Fabs Cons: The new Fabs more

Best Restaurant Remodel 9/5/2008

We have been waiting for some time for the renovation of one of sherman oaks key Italian restaurants.Once we visited the newley remodled Fab's we understood why it had taken so long.I have to say the remodel is first class and just about every seat in the restaurant is a prime seat.I have been going to Fab's since the late 90's and always had many fovorite dishes to choose from.I have noticed with the new editions to the menu every thing tastes better, it's that suttle difference you notice when the food source is top quality.I reccomend you try it now before every one else discovers it. Pros: Great remodel & best Italian in the area more

Shows Promise 9/4/2008

We tried Fab's the week that it opened. I am sure that they were experienceing the ususal first week hiccups. My salmon was reasonably priced & good. A few more veggies & a little less butter on the pasta would be great. Whit wine was warm (oops!).\r \r Decor is cozy. Lovely looking private dining room.\r \r To keep us coming back though they need a children's menu. They actualy wanted to charge us for spiltting my salmon with my kid. I thought that was rediculous.\r \r We are willing to give it another try as Sherman Oaks is desperate for some decent mid-priced, non-chain restaurants. Pros: Ambience, well priced, good pizza Cons: No children's menu, not yet organized, very very small parking lot - hope for valet sevice more

DON'T GO TO FABS! 9/4/2008

After anxiously awaiting the grand re-opening of Fabs, we couldn't wait to go enjoy the wonderful, warm, sourdough rolls and delicious chopped salad. We went during the week for lunch. When we arrived, we were saddened to hear that they no longer have the sourdough rolls, but still have warm bread. That warm bread turned out to be basically a hamburger bun slightly warm. ICK! After hearing that they have panini sandwiches, we decided they sounded delish! I ordered the BLT panini ($11) (and expected it to be a warm sandwich with melted cheese) and small chopped salad ($9). My friend ordered the vegetable panini. When my salad came, I took a few bites and then discovered a BLACK HAIR in my salad. I was grossed out. About an HOUR LATER, our so-called PANINIS came....and they were COLD! My BLT panini was basically a regular BLT sandwich on cold white bread! My friend's veggie panini was the same way!! NOT pressed, no cheese, no dressing or sauce of any kind & cold! Just a regular SANDWICH! It took forever to get our food.....there was only one person waiting tables during the busy lunch period! Sadly, we were very disappointed with the ""NEW"" Fabs....New isn't always better, and, in this case, it's not! I miss the OLD FABS!! Did we really need another ""YUPPIE"" restaurant near Ventura Blvd.? If you want wine tasting, go to Spazio! more

Very Disappointed 8/31/2008

Much like a child awaiting the arrival of a birthday or Christmas, I waited and waited and waited for Fab's to return. They finally reopened recently so we joyously placed an order for takeout...Eggplant Parmesan..our mouths watering for the amazing Eggplant Parmesan we'd been missing...Joe Fab's grandmother's recipe. Sadly, it was a huge disappointment. Instead of using the traditional breaded eggplant, they now use grilled eggplant. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of grilled vegetables but the contrasting flavors just don't work in this dish. Most of the eggplant was uncooked and inedible. I am willing to give it one more try before saying I'd never go back. I hope things are better next time. more

Not worth the wait :( 8/29/2008

Wow, what a change from the old Fabs, and not in a good way! Ordered take-out for four people, and the food was way below average. Skimpy, skimpy, skimpy on the meat and sauces, and the prices are now outrageous! Ten bucks for a meatball sandwich .... MeatBALL being the operative word. I seemed like they took one meatball, sliced it superthin, and spread it around a stale roll they didn't bother to bake. Another 18 dollars for a chicken dish! The pastas were overcooked and nearly devoid of their respective sauces. I guess they have to pay for that expensive renovation somehow. But if they don't change their tune, I doubt they'll be in business for long. Pros: Takeout window is super convenient. Cons: Too much $$$ for too little food. more

Best Pizza in the Valley 8/27/2008

I went to the old Fabs two years ago and loved it! I love this place just as much. The pizza is still the most amazing pizza I have ever had! The meatballs are also just as good. I give it 5 stars because the food is perfect! The price is a little higher than before, but if you order right (portions are BIG) then you will not spend too much. The atmosphere is 100% better and the wine selection was really simple and good. My only complaint is the lighting kinda stinks, but that will not keep me from going back! Pros: food, wine, and atmosphere Cons: wait staff was new, but really nice more

Disappointing!!!!! 8/22/2008

What a disappointment!!! I work down the street and my coworkers and I always used to order from here because the food was good, cheap, and close. And then they closed for remodeling. Now two years later, they've finally reopened and we marked this date on our calendar. We were so excited that Fab's was back!\r \r BUT, Fab's is NOT back! Instead it's an expensive, less than mediocre restaurant\r \r Let me explain...our favorite salad (the antipasto) used to be $7 and filled with meat, olives, beans, cheese, etc...enough for 2 people to share. Now, although the portion size is the same, it is nearly all lettuce with a tiny thimble-sized container of dressing. On top of that, the salads were warm when we got them. Oh, and did I mention that they are now $14!!!??!!?? Double the price, half the meat. Not good. Oh, and, our salads were not made correctly, either.\r \r Needless to say, we will not be going back and I would never recommend this ""new"" Fab's to anybody. more

Welcome to the new Fab's! 6/23/2008

For years Fab's Italian Kitchen has been the locals' favorite Italian restaurant in the San Fernando Valley. Those who crave that home-style comfort Italian food will love our menu. On behalf of my family, I want to personally thank all of you who have continued to support us over the years.\r \r We have been closed for remodeling since March '07 and there have been many rumors about what is going on here at Fab's, so let me clarify the situation. Fab's did in fact change ownership. Joe Fabrocini sold the business to me, Sebastian, his grandson! Joe's son Roger is still our remarkable chef - he's also my partner and my dad. To make a long story short, the business is still in the family and we have signed another long term lease. We are here to stay!\r \r We feature a completely remodeled dining room with plush high-back booths, wine bar and an exclusive VIP room perfect for business functions and private dinners. We have upgraded our kitchen and are now offering healthier and more interesting menu choices. Take-out, delivery and catering will continue.\r We will be hosting wine dinners and showcasing local artists & music.\r \r Fab's has undergone many changes to accompany our delicious cuisine such as new management, better service and upscale relaxed ambience. Hence, we have also changed the name to FAB'S CORNER CUCINA to reflect what are to our neighborhood. Fab's wants to continue our tradition of delicious family-style Italian food for the years to come. Everyone is a VIP to us, and I am personally inviting you to come in and experience the new Fab's.\r \r Again, thanks for all the support!\r \r Sincerely,\r Sebastian\r President Fabscorp\r (818) 995-2933 more

EAT HERE! 10/10/2002

Great little place in Sherman Oaks. Large portions of classic Italian food. The fresh bread makes for a great start. I recommend the calamari dish to start with. The place also allows you to bring your own wine with a $5 cork fee. Not bad! Also you can walk away with some money left in your wallet! Great casual date location. Pros: Inexpensive, Casual but nice, Great service Cons: $5 wine corkage fee more

The best place for delivery 5/16/2002

Yes, as per the editorial review, the restaurant is way to bright and uncomfortable looking. But the food is Delicious, and a great value. We've had the baked ziti and Carbanara delivered more times than I can count. It also made for the perfect meal at an impromptu dinner party last summer - add candles and wine - voila, memories are made. more
