If you have been thinking about trying out Tambellini's downtown, don't do it! We spent over $70 on 2 extremely average entrees and 2 drinks. The decor is very dated, and gives y...

glad we still have Tambellini's as a downtown tradition 1/18/2009

At a time when business is leaving downtown and many are changing names every other week - it is nice to be able to say to friends - ""let's meet at Tambellini's"" - we all know where it is because it has been a tradition in downtown for years! It's a great excuse to avoid traffic so we can enjoy the appetizers and a drink before or after a concert. The staff is freindly and if we are there before a concert we can tell them our time frame and they make sure we get out to make it to our show in time. I hate chain restaurants and am happy to support Tambellini's - come on Pittsburgh - do the same!\r Pros: wonderful family run tradition more

Great Italian Food! 1/15/2009

If you're looking for great Italian food downtown, I'd recommend Tambellini's. The menu offers something for everyone, the prices are reasonable and the zucchini appetizer is the best I've ever had. It's location makes it a perfect choice for dinner before a play or concert. You can't go wrong with Tambellini's. more

Makes For The Perfect Night in the Cutural District! 1/15/2009

One of my favorite evening's in Pittsburgh is to combine a great show at the Benedum or O'Reilly with a delicious dinner at F Tambellini. Tremendous food and the service is just as good! Highly recommended. more

Love the Zucchini!! 1/12/2009

The zucchini and the ravioli bring me into the restaurant, but the courteous and efficient service keep me coming back. They are conscientious of my limited time during my lunch hour, as well as providing prompt service prior to show time. I recommend this restaurant to friends! more

EVERYONE SHOULD GO TO F. TAMBELLINI'S IN DOWNTOWN PITTSBURGH- 1/11/2009

\r \r When we go to the cultural district, this is our restaurant of choic. Don't miss their wonderful zucchini appetizer - you can't find a better one in the US. The meals are always delicious - particularly the chicken entrees and the staff is the best. Pros: Good parking, best zucchin more

Best Zucchini Around!!! 1/9/2009

During a recent business dinner, I took a group of 8 clients to Tambellini's on 7th Street. I cannot say enough amazing things!!! The food was fantastic, the service was wonderful, and the atmosphere was perfect! I will (and already have) recommended this restaurant to friends and family. more

Hidden Gem in Pittsburgh 1/5/2009

The Omni suggested F Tambellini. We have absolutely no regrets. The experience was fantastic - I cannot say enough about how good the food and service was here. The Legendary Zucchini was highly recommended by our wonderful server. We also tried chicken marsala which is incredible. homemade creme brulle, and cannolli were both super and delicious as well. We loved the restaurants ambience and fine dining setting. It's a great place for various kinds of groups - couples, families, outing with friends and business dinners. This restaurant is definitely a must try if you are in Pittsburgh! Pros: Ambience - Old style Italian Theater more

Best Fried Zucchini in Pittsburgh 1/2/2009

Tambellini's Restaurant has excellent service and food. They have a very extensive menu with nice size portions and reasonable prices. A few of my favorites is their ravolli and friend zucchini appetizer. I think their zucchini is the best in the Burgh!! You'll have to try it for yourself and see if you agree. Definitely worth the trip!\r \r The Baldwin Ice Hockey Club would also like to thank the Restaurant for their donation to our Club. Thanks for your support.\r \r Pros: Prices were reasonable, portions size was great and food was excellent. more

The price makes it worse..... 9/11/2008

Just to introduce us: we're a couple, both 27 and went with some friends of ours before a play. I honestly can't understand why this place is still open! And it was packed! The decor looks like something from a bad movie made in 1982. Nothing on the menu is below 20 bucks - and even if you try to skimp they make you pay. For example: A) If you order an appetizer for your main meal, they surcharge you 5 bucks. B) If you split an entree' they surcharge you 7.50. AND THE FOOD IS TERRIBLE!!! Salads are iceberg with a few carrots. Pasta is overcooked without enough sauce. The chicken was dry. As far as the service - our waitress was pretty nice but the other one serving the table next to us was having a FIT because the kitchen cooked her food wrong. For some reason, she just had to let everyone in the restaurant know..... Please avoid this place. If I flushed 50 bucks down the toilet it would feel like money better spent. And that's the truth. Pros: location Cons: everything more

Chicken Parmigiana 5/13/2008

This is the first time I have written a review, but after treating my mouth to one of its best experiences ever, I felt that I had to write. I'm not usually a fan of Chicken Parmigiana, but for some reason it sounded particularly tasty that night so I ordered it. It was by far the best chicken parmigiana that I have ever had !!!!! The medley of tastes that delighted my palate were almost indescribable. I just kept telling anyone who would listen that I had just eaten the best ever. If you're ever in the mood for chicken parmigiana, run - don't walk - to Tambellini's on 7th Street. Trust me on this. You'll soon be writing your own rave review. more

Best Italian Food 3/12/2008

We have dined here many times and keep coming back. The service is always courteous and attentive but not overbearing. We love the fact that you can enjoy your dinner without feeling rushed. The chicken marsala is tender and flavorful and one of my favorites. But to be honest, it is hard to choose which is our favorite since everything we have ever eaten has been hot, flavorful and the portions are generous. We always go home with enough for another meal. We are looking forward to dinner there next week before the show. Pros: good food, courteous service, generous portions Cons: no elevator if you have difficulty with stairs more

Avoid this restaurant 2/25/2008

Great location. \r \r But...Food terrible and extremely expensive (e.g. $18.95 for soggy pasta with watery marinara sauce). My girlfriend and I did not have particularly high expectations for F. Tambellini's and still, we were both stunned at how mediocre the food was. The annoying music and tacky decor further detracted from our dining experience. I cannot comment on the restaurant's famous fried zucchini, as my party did not order any. I will not be returning and I suggest that you eschew F. Tambellini's as well. Pros: Location Cons: Literally, everything else. more

Bland 2/1/2008

Good service, bland overpriced food. I expected something really special after reading all the reviews, but left disappointed. more

Best Italian food in Pittsburgh...and that's saying A LOT! 12/9/2007

I used to live in Pittsburgh way back in the day and frequented Tambellini's on a regular basis for both lunch and dinner. I doubt they still do it, but they used to have an Atkins Diet buffet upstairs and that was pretty darned tasty! I LOVE LOVE LOVE their fried zucchini! It's the best! They have the best ranch dressing town too. I like their frittata. I LOVE the veal Romano. The chicken marsala is really good. Heck, everything at Tambellini's is great! This is seriously the best Italian food you'll eat in the burgh! I'm going back to Pittsburgh later this week and my mouth is already watering for the zucchini! YUM! Be warned though, dinner is pricy! Pros: Fried Zucchini, Frittatas, Ranch Dressing, Food, food, food Cons: Not able to split checks, dinner prices are high more

Consistent Pre-Theater Dining in Pittsburgh 7/25/2007

I have been to many restaurants in the theater area of Pittsburgh, but find the service and food to be consistent value for the price. I especialy like their awareness of my showtimes regarding dining. I will vouch for this restaurant, and recomend it for this reason. Pros: Attentiveness to theater overcomes other delays. Great Value! Cons: Parking is a challenge at times more

A spectular disappointment 7/14/2007

This restaurant is horrible. The food was less than bad and the service is worse. Save yourself the pain and have a hotdog at any corner. more

Great atmosphere, better food 6/21/2007

I was going to Pittsburgh for a family gathering at the US Open golf. I asked a business associate for a reccomendation and he suggested Tambellinis. We had a great experience, and the staff really looked after us. The fried zucchini is awesome, and they made the extra effort to accomodate the needs of my severely retarded cousin. We also met the owner (Charlie) who told us that the business has been in the family for over 50 years. I will definitely return next time in Pittsburgh. This is a quality independent restaurant, if you are looking for a great experience in downtown Pittsburgh I would definitely try it. Pros: Food, Atmosphere, Service more

Un....Believable Experience 6/21/2007

Unbelievable service food and ambiance together made it a perfect meal. I was just traveling through but I wish I could dine in everyday. 10 stars Pros: Excellent Food presentation decor and service make it a perfect meal more

The world's best zucchini! 11/26/2006

I've been a patron of Tambellini's for at least 20 years and it only has become better over time! The service is wonderful, the food excellent and the atmosphere romantic and relaxing! I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone!!!! (and have!) more

Not your run of the mill downtown restaurant... 11/15/2006

F. Tambelini's is the best Italian restaurant in the ""burgh"". Not only is the food prepared to perfection, but the service is top notch, professionalism personified. Large or small party, this is the place to go for Italian food and atmosphere. The perfect place to go before a show for dinner, or for happy hour to unwind after a long day at work. The bar is quaint, and personal. The bartender has the experience and know how to make everyone feel comfortable, and welcome. They do personal parties in their upstairs rooms, which I have had the pleasure to both host and attend, and everything on each occassion was planned perfectly. The events coordinator worked with me to make sure all the details were covered.\r \r I recommend F. Tambelini's for any occassion. more
