A++ on Food, D- on Reservation Management 10/19/2008

We had 8:30 pm reservations for a party of 4 this past Saturday night. With the menu fresh in our heads and the GPS set , we got ourselves to Evvia's on time and plenty hungry. Pros: Food flavorful and well prepared Cons: Crowded, noisy, and even with a reservation we waited 45 minutes to be seated more

Not as good as sister restaurant Kokkari in downtown SF 8/23/2006

After having an excellent dining experience at Evvia's sister restaurant Kokkari in downtown SF, I was quite disappointed with my experience at this restaurant. I could hardly believe the two restaurants were related. Portions were small and prices high. Several items were not fresh, especially fish, which had also not been boned properly. Desserts were great! Staff was professional but cold and also a little slow. Wine list was lacking and highly marked up. The place seemed busy though, mostly with a blue shirt business crowd and a surprisingly large number of Israelis. The valet service employed by the restaurant was very unpolished. Pros: Only upscale Greek in Palo Alto; easy street parking Cons: Plain food at premium prices; cold staff; unpolished valet service more

This is my favorite restaurant! 7/13/2005

After being here 4 times with friends, and ordering 22 items on their appetizers, main entrees, and dessert menus, they are 22 for 22 at simply AMAZING food. The fried calamari is to die for. Somehow they magically were able to fry the calamari, yet keep it so soft it melts in your mouth. The Lamb Shank just ""falls"" off the bone. And finally, the Ravioli is simply one of the best comination of food ever! Try it out, you won't be disappointed! Pros: Food Cons: Price more

I just don't get it. 4/6/2005

Look, these are nice guys but I don't get it. They all have the requisite european accent but how is the food. I have been to Greece and this is not the food that I had. This is some kind of Cal Greek hybrid at best. And, for such a nice restaurant what's up with their wine list. Hardly any decent selection, like the wine buyer has been hanging out at Bev Mo. Go figure? Pros: ambiance, service, valet Cons: food, noisy more

Evvia is amazing! 2/24/2005

Everything we had was wonderful. Spanakotiropita was unbelievably creamy and sweet. Horiatiki is the best ""traditional greek salad"" I have ever eaten. The feta is plentiful, the veggies are fresh and crisp. If I could only recommend one entre it would be Arnisia Paidakia. The lamb chops were so lushess and cooked to a rare perfection. Kokinisto me Manestra, Souvlaki, and Kritharaki were also unbelievable. But save room for dessert especially if you choose to order Galaktoboureko or Yiaourti me Meli. Both are like eating heaven. Pros: Great food, Great Service, Reservations more

Wonderful! 8/20/2003

This is not a place for the uncultured- read weaker reviews with a grain of salt. They will say it's over priced. I completely disagree. The dolmathes (grape-leaf rolls with spiced meat and rice inside) were wonderful, not bitter like you'll find at other places that serve Greek cuisine- Evvia must use fresh leaves (you'd think it wouldn't be that hard in CA!). The lamb chops were one step away from filet mignon, the lamb shank was also incredibly tasty. Great red wine selections that accompanied our meals including the classic Greek salads very well. If you know your wine and your cooking, Evvia will not disappoint. Presentation was flawless, waitstaff quick and unobtrusive. Pros: Excellent waitstaff, Exquisite cooking Cons: Parking can be sparse, Leg room tight more

Greek Specialties at Inflated Prices 4/17/2003

With a menu complete with upscale versions of Greek specialties and a dining room packed with rough hewn tables, Evvia offers patrons a glimpse of a local taverna in the Greek isles. Appetizers include Feta and Olives, Greek Salad, and a combination plate of Dolmathes, Taramoslata, and Tzatziki, while entrees include grilled dishes such as Lamb Chops, Striped Bass, and Rabbit. The cozy, noisy atmosphere is punctuated by tables that are alternately too bright or too dark, but the conscientious service makes up for any inconvenience. Anyone who has been to Greece would be outraged at the miniscule portions, and, despite a wine list that abounds with selections from Greece, California, and beyond, Dionysus would be furious at Evvias inflated $10 price for a glass of poor Sauvignon Blanc. While Evvia provides excellent, authentic Greek specialties, your wallet will be lighter by many drachma when finished (dinner for two $150). Pros: Authentic Cons: Expensive, Crowded, Noisy more
