Not as hip as jackpot but great selection 5/29/2008

EM has a wide selection of CDs and vinyl, and good used deals on both. The electronic section is lacking, but jazz, world music, and rock/pop have lots to choose from. The staff is helpful if solicited but not overly friendly (but what record store employees really are?). New vinyl is expensive but listening stations are conducive to hands-on browsing. There are sometimes great finds in used DVDs too (films and TV series) and the ""Just Arrived"" sections for CDs and DVDs cause random finds you otherwise might not be searching for. Pros: Wide selection Cons: Expensive new prices more

A Portland Mainstay! CD's, DVD's and Vinyl... and more. 8/4/2007

New and used music stores seem to be going the way of the 8-track tape. We've lost Ozone three times now (the original, Ozone UK, and O3), Turn Around Sound, Django's, Tower, and now Music Millennium West. Now could not be a better time to praise a mainstay, Everyday Music. In the ten years I've shopped at EM, I've seen staff come and go. For the most part, they are knowledgeable about music across the board. I once witnessed a customer hum a song to the clerk, who in turn called the Sandy store and hummed it to the clerk on the other end, trying to figure out what that song was until another customer chimed in with the answer. That moment alone breaks down the rather impersonal warehouse-like vibe. EM hits it for being open late everyday. Although vast, the selection ebbs and flows depending on the used cd selection, and if you come up empty one day, two days later you may have found everything you wanted and more. Take a careful look; I often find the CD I came for not on the racks, but below in the overstock. The wall of used DVD's rotates as do the used CD's so check back often. EM also carries new and used vinyl, and the time I found the Repo Man soundtrack on cassette for a buck fifty made my night. With Music Millennium West about to be history, the always anticipated in-store goes with it. It'd be nice if EM made some space for touring bands to put on a short set. With the Crystal Ballroom just across the street, you know bands are stopping in anyhow to grab a couple of new tunes for the tour bus. EM is a recommended trip for all types of music, and time for browsing (and listening) is mandatory. Pros: Vast rotating selection of CD's, low-priced ""Skufs,"" sell used CD's, DVD's and Vinyl. Always check the promo bins at the counter! Cons: None, really. Maybe parking, but I live close enough to walk, so nya nya... more

Definitive Music Collection in town 1/18/2003

I know, if I'm looking for pretty much anything, the end of the line is always going to be Everyday music. And, to make matters ever better, there's times where it comes through with used cds too. The real place where Everyday excels is for the browser. I can look through the current bins anytime and come away with a handful of titles worth buying. Sometimes, I can spend hours on end browsing. The inclusion of a seperate Jazz and Classical store (for the Burlingame location) is excellent. Finally, the ability to take ANY cd off the shelfs and bring it to the front for a pre-purchase listen is crucial. How other stores don't do this, I'll never understands. I can even listen to one of the many LP titles which reside in the back. Everyday is the complete music store. more

love this place 8/20/2002

This place is huge and has the biggest selection I have ever seen! The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed. Selling and buying used CD's is a breeze. Definitely a good place to go for those hard-to-find buys. more

Look no further 8/13/2002

If it can be had in Portland, EM has it! I'm a lot more selective in my music purchases these days, which translates to ""obscure and picky."" Only on a few occasions have I not found the artist/album I'm looking for, and then I had to track it down via the web. They have regular rotation of their selections (which they keep up to date), but most importantly their staff loves music. Your not going to find the wage-slave bop-do glam rocker behind the counter who thinks that punk rock began with Green Day. These are people who know better than you what you're listening to. more

Know before you buy... 8/6/2002

Better selection than most, both new and used, including world music and other less popular genres. And you can try anything before purchasing. Still, if it can be found at Best Buy, Fred Meyers, or Target, get it there because you will pay more at Everyday Music. But it's a great place to browse and no megastore will beat the price of used CDs. more

Great music for a low price 7/26/2002

Ya like music and ya like to find it cheap? This is a good place to be. Whenever I need to find cheap and/or out-of-date tunes, this is the store I go to. The employees are friendly and knowledgeable about music if you have any questions. With two monstrous locations in Portland and treasures hiding everywhere, any music lover could get lost. Pros: Out of date music, Local music, Inexpensive Cons: Mainstream imports, No parking more

EM Rocks!!! 7/23/2002

Such a cool store. You could spend hours in here digging through the used cd's, you never know what your going to find. I hardly ever buy new anymore, chances are you can find whatever you are looking for at EM, with a little work. They have a great selection, and multiple locations, all of which are stocked with mass quantities of cd's, records, and tapes. Pros: lots of used cd's more

Sets the Standard 5/21/2002

Everyday is one of the largest independent record stores I've seen. They stock a nice selection of new and used CDs, imports and the all-important vinyl. They also offer an interesting selection of posters as well. The staff is knowledgeable and kind. They also deserve praise for being one of the few record stores to offer a public restroom (a must for anyone who is serious about shopping for records). With that said, please keep the restroom clean and treat it kindly. more
