All is not what it seems 7/7/2008

Funny thing is, Europa Bistro hasn't been open for lunch since January of 2008, so I find it hard to believe the previous review given the date. I frequent Europa at least 3 times a week, and while yes, it can get somewhat hectic due to the volume of business, it is ALWAYS a joy to dine there. I have my favorite servers, I love the owners and have made numerous new friends with other regulars there. I have even travelled abroad with some. All in all, I wish the were more Europa Bistro's around, as I do have to drive a fair distance to get to it, but it is well worth the drive. I would recommend it to anyone. Pros: Delightful environment, fabulous food, dedicated employees Cons: far from my home more

Don't waste your time 5/27/2008

Went to Europa for lunch only to find my wife and I standing unnoticed for 10 minutes while the one waiter passes us by and not mention anything. No host is to be found and the seating was less than half full and only one table was eating. I had to go see the coat check guy as to what was the situation. He took his eyes off the newspaper long enough to tell me to wait and someone will come. He then went back to reading. We left in disgust having wasted our lunch time. For a place that plasters the town in coupons, you would think they would actually want to serve you a meal. This restaurant is a joke and will not survive in this market. They should go back to the strip mall they came from. Don't be surprised if this pace ends up on "Kitchen Nightmares". I actually drive by Europa now on my way to another place for French cuisine. Pros: None Cons: Nonexistant service more

ok food, no atmosphere--not at all "trendy" or "European" 4/5/2008

Ok, if you are looking for an upscale Bill Knapps, this place is for you. The food is decent. Nothing we had was bad...the duck breast was well cooked (not "well done" but done well.) The calamari was ok. Wine selection is limited, but the shiraz we had (at $7/glass) was decent. Nothing was exceptional. Atlas Global Bistro is so much better (and Fiddleheads used to be better when they had good chefs.) But the chairs looked like they came from the local Chinese restaurant. The room has no atmosphere. The lights are too bright, the decor is tacky. There is absolutely NO atmosphere in this place. The crowd is a late-middle age to older age crowd. We (nicely dressed to go to a current style restaurant in, say Chicago, ) were definitely out of place. (oh, the looks.) It was like going to an ok restaurant in a really backwoods town. ("Boy, we don't like your kind.) Did I say the place was really tacky? Really. Sorry, but if you want a good crowd, this is not the place to go. If you are afraid of diversity, of cities, and want a decent meal....you'll probably enjoy. Otherwise, if you've ever been to a place such as Chelsea, the Village, Boystown, Bucktown, etc, avoid. It was worse than what their website (which reminded us of Frankenmuth) depicted..and we weren't expecting much. Pros: Decent food (nothing bad) Cons: Completely older, "Bill Knapps" atmosphere more

Outstanding food, exceptional prices! 3/27/2008

I have been going to Europa ever since it opened at it's first location in Rochester Hills. The new location in downtown Rochester is even better! My all time favorite appetizer is the escargot - all that garlic butter is delicious! I always have the gorgonzola filet, always medium rare, always perfect. Whenever I need to entertain family, friends or business associates, I ALWAYS take them to Europa! Try the White Burgundy wine, it's fantastic, and inexpensive! Pros: Excellent value for the quality of the food, wonderful staff. more

Good food, bad service 8/29/2007

Lunch time and I wanted something close to work. Went in and very clean and stylish. Nobody greeted us, so we walked through to the outside seating. There we found a waiter and commented that we would like to be seated out here. He stated that they had no two seat tables available outside and we would have to take a table inside. There were at least 5 or 6 four seat tables empty and only two or three people inside. But as we had invested my lunch hour in getting here we took the inside seats. They took our order promptly (2 sandwiches) and gave us water. They did not ask what we wanted to drink so my friend had to ask for the wine list. We watched in amazement as couples would come in asking for outside tables and be turned away as we were. Some left others took the inside seats in astonishment that they were being told no. The food arrived late (30 minutes) and we had to ask three times for a refill. Each time watching the waiters walk away from other tables with water and ignore us. The waiter apologized for the service and said he was having computer problems. Someone forgot to remind him they served food to humans not computers. Paid our bill $28 and left pennies for the tip. Did not want them thinking I forgot to leave a tip. Pros: Nice place and good food Cons: Horrible service more

Fabulous food, great prices, go here!! 4/20/2007

My husband and I went here for New Year's Eve and I'm dying to go back! We could only get a 5:00 reservation because we hadn't called early enough in advance and they were almost booked. That's pretty early for us night owls to eat dinner, but I'm so glad we didn't decide to try another restauant. Excellent service from our knowledgable waitress made our visit more enjoyable. It being the holiday we had a streamlined menu to choose from. We both had a wonderful salad prior to dinner and I especially enjoyed the bread and olive oil with parmesan cheese to dip it in. We both had filet mignon, cooked just the way we ordered them. Wine, including bottles, are very reasonably priced as well. We both chose to have creme brulee for dessert. The ramekin dishes that the creme brulee came in were larger than I've ever seen in a restaurant and my husband and I really had to try to eat it all, a rarity since we both love it. All in all this restaurant is very recommended by the two of us. Not only because we had an excellent dinner but also because of the prices. more
