Recently desiring to hear a ""Good"" sermon from a preacher who cared, I was recommended to attend Essex United Methodist Church. So I decided to give the preacher a chance, unbeknownst to her, yes her!
Reverend Kim had no idea she had a ""critic"" in her audience, not that it makes any difference for her. Her entire package as a messenger for the Lord was soft and elegant, yet coupled with wisdom and sound missionary experience. I was pleasantly greeted by parishioners and welcomed into the service(8:30am traditional service). Reverend Kim also greeted me and welcomed me into the service.
The traditional format was familiar, hymns too. The elegance of an organ and quaint choir was appreciated too. Unique was the ""Joys & Concerns"" section of the service. The congregation was openly encouraged to share their joys and concerns, followed by lifting them up for prayer. This element of the service united the church members, their community and also celebrated their faith in prayer/worship.
The sermon...best part of the experience. This lady has a forte' to teach the Lord's lessons, connect them to today's scenarios and encourage listeners to grow in their faith weekly. She connects her sermon to her life's experiences and missionary experiences, while positively engaging your mind and thoughts. The sermon stems from the biblical reading, all connected to the selected traditional hymns.
At conclusion, you are greeted by the congregational members and Rev. Kim who are very friendly and inviting to their guests. Fellowship coffee follows the morning traditional service, prior to Sunday School.
I thank the person who recommended this church for a good sermon. I invite you to try it out, at least the 8:30am service. It's worth your time, this humble leader has a great style in preaching and wonderful experiences to share. Her nativity sets and photos of Jerusalem were awesome and insightful at Christmas!
PS- This church is an asset to the greater Essex community. They serve a meal every Wednesday to people in need of a hot meal at their Table of Grace. One Wednesday every month they provide a food pantry to distribute much needed groceries to families within the community. I now donate to this organization because of their charitable fellowship that is providing direct service to their community with incredible volunteers working hard to support their community church.
