Best Wine Selection Beverly Hills 11/9/2011

Celestino Drago has set new standards in the evolution of Italian cooking in America which makes their food really great. With a Los Angeles restaurant empire under his belt and enough stars to merit his ""celestial"" name, Celestino is still found every morning rolling out giant mountains of dough to make fresh pastas and breads for his restaurants or at local farmer's markets scouring for fresh produce more

Great Italian Food & Wine in Beverly Hills (& affordable)! 3/11/2011

Had a work event in the private room upstairs. It was PERFECT! \r \r A nice selection of wines were enjoyed at the cocktail hour with incredible hors d'oeuvres (fried parmesan with balsamic glaze, shrimp cocktails served in tall, thin shot glasses with a tomato almost juice, and eggplant cannelloni). Dinner followed with a choice of roasted chicken, seared branzino, or a steak. \r \r Our group of 22 had a blast. The wine and conversation flowed and I think we paid a fair price for the event. \r \r From the maitre'd to all of the serving staff - they were courteous and professional and couldn't do enough for our group. \r \r I highly recommend this restaurant for business or pleasure! more

Small but Nice 2/9/2008

The place was small but nice to be in. The service was good and the food was great. I would recommend this place. It's right in the heart of beverly Hills. Pros: The Risotto is Delicious more

CONSISTENTLY LOVELY!!! 1/4/2008

I enjoy this restaurant so much and even more everytime I go back. The bar staff are friendly, generous and knowledgable. I always indulge in the Brunello ($45/glass) and the lambchops (best in LA so far..). Adam is usually my waiter, he is polite and I let him choose my courses last time I went in. Good job, Adam! The atmosphere is nothing flashy, just simple and traditional in Italian restaurants which I do enjoy. LOVE IT! more

Mediocre Food, Bad Service 11/18/2007

Two of us sat at the bar to wait for the rest of our party. The grissini, which I know are made at Drago's bakery, were STALE! Having just returned from Piemonte, home of grissini, I know how they are supposed to be. The bartender agreed, saying that they come daily, but sometimes sit in a humid part of the kitchen and get that way. They serve them anyway. People don't know better. A sign of things to come? \r \r Yes, indeed it was. The foie gras raviolini that everyone raves about came underdone and chewy, not close to al dente. We sent it back. When a new plate was unceremoniously slid (yes, slid) onto our table, it was clearly a half order, unadorned. The other primi we had were the squid ink risotto, which was very good, and the rock shrimp rigatoni, which was unremarkable with a bland sauce and nothing fresh about it. Entrees: 2 of 3 veal dishes were so-so and the tenderloin special with prosciutto was very good. The lamb was ok, tender yes, but the flavor was overwhelmed by a sweetened balsamic reduction that was poured all over the chops rather than saucing the plate. The T-bone that was called Bistecca Fiorentina was a decent quality steak. It was not prepared or served in the Fiorentina style, seasoned with kosher salt and cracked pepper, served on a bed of arugula and drizzled with olive oil. There was none of the above. Salt and pepper and olive oil? There was none to be found and we were never asked if we'd like any. Service was minimal, with the waiter not returning to our table after courses were served. With our entrees, we received no knives. I had to get up and go to the bar behind me to get them since we could see our waiter dashing by without so much as a glance - impossible to make eye contact. A very disappointing evening, especially after all the reviews. Corkage - $25 per bottle, waived for one bottle. There are so many good Italian restaurants in Los Angeles - none of us would return. more

Bad service 1/18/2007

As a VIP customer @ OpenTable, I was looking forward to try out Drago with my friends on JAN 14, 07. The restaurant was nice & warm, the hostess was great & sat us in a timely manner as we had RSVP. When I ordered a bottle of wine, our waiter came to our table & said ""we don't have that bottle, we were going to change that to this bottle now."" Without even an apology, the bottle in his hand was already open. I tasted it & ask him, do you have a brand new bottle. The waiter gave me a this look & said ""We have over 500 bottles, what do you want?"" I was in shocked & so were our friends. Our waiter was simply rude and got no manner.\r \r It took 25 minutes before he took out order, then 30 minutes between salads & entrees. Of course, 3 dishes we wanted to order were out! The food was good, but the service was horrible. Many times, we had to pour ourselves with the wine & the water!!!\r \r I would rather go to the Italian restaurant next door, which I dined there several times & got much better service & food.\r \r Looking at the table next to us, there was 3,4 servers serving them, I then made comment to my table ""how come my Dollar is worth less than the other table Dollar?"" 10 minutes later, the service was completely different, the manager ran up & asked us if we need anything, & so the hostess?!??!\r \r Later to find out, the table next to us was related to the restaurant. By then, we had already finished our meals, and the waiter tried too hard to serve us. I was so disappointed that I didn't even bother to complain with the manager.\r \r Unfortunately, this was my first visit & will be my last. Pros: Ambience Cons: Service more

Great Italian Food, Wonderful Ambience, Attentive Service 11/20/2006

Great restaurant. Specials are always amazing, so trust the staff's recommendations! Wine list is extensive, but a bit pricey for the good Italian makes. Get a thin crusted pizza for an appetizer and then enjoy the finely prepared fish or pastas. Sit outside at night and watch the high-end cars pull up to the valet parking nearby, or sit inside for a more intimate experience. Either way, it will be a great dining experience. Pros: Ambience, Food Quality and extensive wine menu. Cons: Staff can get a bit busy at times. more

Eh... 7/10/2006

My friend and I were sorta disappointed...but we might consider giving this place another shot if we're on Beverly again. We both ordered the wine flights (which is kinda like a mini wine tasting) and every single one of our wines was not good (every single one? how is that possible?). And some of the dishes we ordered were not tasty.. We had ricotta stuffed squash blossoms and the ricotta must've gone bad/sour b/c my friend and i almost hurled. The prosciutto and melon was okay...but then again, its impossible to go wrong with prosciutto and um...melon. The pasta we ordered (ear shaped pasta) was pretty good though. Oh, service was slow. And there was some creepy guy who looked like Mr. Bean just chillin at the bar and he kept staring. Very bizarre. But that's not the restaurants fault....it just didnt help the situation. I must say, however, I've eaten at Drago (sister restaurant in Santa Monica) and had an excellent steak there. So, I'd go there before this place. more

Love the Wine Flights 5/17/2006

Love this restaurant. Love the wine flights. Love the fried Parmasan. Love the chopped salad. Love the pizza with Eggplant. Get it yet, I love it. Catering, I'll love that too. Pros: yummy, delicious, cozy more

dissapointing 3/18/2006

Prompt seating, but we sat in the ""quieter"" upstairs (very noisy). Service was prompt, but then became too prompt when our main course arrived while we were enjoying our appetizer. We generally enjoy a nicely paced dinner, however we were mid dinner when we had finished one glass of wine. We felt like they were trying to hustle us out to seat another couple before they closed. To slow things down we ordered a bottle of wine. Boy did it get slow - in fact, our plates were cleared about 15 minutes after we finished (although they did try to clear my plate before I was finished.) Food was good, not great. There are better wine focused restaurants (like A.O.C.) which are a much better evening for the money. Total bill with tip was $170 (2 dishes, 1 appetizer, 2 wine flights @ $22 each, 1 $45 bottle of wine) Pros: great menu, nice wine list Cons: overpriced, inconsistent service, loud more

Wine Tastings Wednesday Are Wonderful! 9/15/2005

I'll return again and again... 5/29/2005

After a long weekend in LA sampling a lot of top rated Italian restaurants, I can firmly place Enoteca Drago at the top of the list. The service was sterling; we never had an empty water or wine glass. The menu was very inventive and the chef executed upon the ideas in the menu flawlessly. Highly recommended: wild mushroom risotto with blueberries (!). We never felt rushed, just felt pampered. Great place... Pros: wine list, easy parking, great food Cons: in La-La Beverly Hill more

Ho-Hum 4/7/2004

I can't understand the buzz over Chef Drago or his new restaurant Enoteca Drago. This is the second Drago restaurant I've been to (the other is Celestino's in Pasadena) and I've left both times unimpressed and wondering what is so special about Drago. Enoteca is a perfectly nice restaurant. The service is attentive and the atmosphere lively but the food is nothing out of the ordinary. The pizza was tasty but both spaghetti dishes we tried were far too salty. This restaurant is neither here nor there and I doubt I'd suggest a return visit unless someone else wanted to go. Pros: decent value, good service more
