Fantastic customer care to overseas relative 2/18/2009

The communication in this hospital is fantastic; I'm phoning daily from Scotland UK and the Clerk posted me to various Doctors, the ward to speak direct with my Aunt and primary team all within 10 mins - nothing is too much trouble. Everyone I speak to is very courteous, caring and extremely helpful. You wouldn't get this speed of response at some out our big NHS UK hospitals.\r It is a huge relief 4000 miles away to know my Aunt is in such good hands.\r \r Gordon. more

Very Good Pediatric ward 2/11/2009

I read some of the reviews and obviously, you people havent been to any other NYC hospital. \r The truth of th ematter is the wait time in the ped emergency room is very short, and you have all the access to the latest equipment and very educated medical staff plus its part of Mt Sinai network so you have access to their consults. more

Terrible service @ ELMHURST HEALTH SVCS - Women Health Svcs 1/7/2009

It's taking several days just to get through to the Women Health Svcs at Elmhurst Hospital Center to make an appointment. No one answers the phone and you could be in this telephone loop for at least 5hours. Finally got through on Thursday. Unbelieveable.. the person I spoke to Nancy wasn't too helpful at the Nurses station. I explained to her that it's very difficult to get through to Women's Health to arrange an appoint. finally have the appointment for next week. Let's see how the staff is, until then... Cons: TERRIBLE TELEPHONE SVCS, CAN'T EVEN MAKE AN APPOINTMENT more

Don't try making an appointment over the phone.\r THE LONGEST WAIT EVER.\r i was on the phone trying to talk to someone and i was on hold for at keast 2 hours when i gave up and hung up.\r \r The hospital attendants need to work faster and not keep patients waiting.\r i recommend not to make, cancel, or change an appointment over the phone.\r okay hospital service. average staff. good so-so service.\r otherwise just the phone service and operator attendance. \r \r \r the operaters arent as helpful either but its better than to be talking to an automated message system the WHOLE time.\r \r better hospital service elsewhere. Pros: good staff and service Cons: bad phoneline help and service on phone. more

I cannot stress how awful this place is. 8/4/2008

I have had nothing but horrible experiences with Elmhurst Hospital Center. I gave birth to my daughter there and it was a total nightmare. The doctors were impatient, condescending and completely incompetent. They also completely ignored any requests or questions I had and ordered me around. I had nightmares about my birthing experience for months afterwards.\r \r My mother was also hospitalized at Elmhurst for several months. They stalled her release for weeks while she lay bedridden in need of a transfer to another facility. The nurses ignored her and were cruel to her. She couldn't speak after she came out of her coma, so they assumed she couldn't hear them. They constantly mocked her and made nasty remarks when tending to her, all while she lay there helpless. She suffered significant emotional trauma. When visiting her, I would have to call for a nurse/doctor over and over again for upwards of an hour before they would even come talk to us, regardless of how empty the ward was at the time or how important the issue was.\r \r These are only two of many horrendous experiences my family has had at Elmhurst Hospital Center. The incompetence of the staff is absolutely staggering. Avoid this hospital at all costs. Pros: Modern equipment in select wards Cons: Uncaring Staff, Poor care, Long Waits more

Incompetence Defined 10/30/2007

If you want to visit an incompetently run NYC hospital, look no further than Elmhurst Hospital where the motto is what can I do to make your visit as unpleasant as possible. This hospital is basically Medicaid central. In other words, if you have private medical insurance you ought to go elsewhere unless you like waiting in long lines and being treated like garbage. This hospital basically caters to folks who lie and cheat to obtain Medicaid, aka, the best free health insurance on Earth. Although the staff for the most part is hard working, the administration is culturally insensitive and governs like an ostrich with it's head in the sand. Although the hospital claims to be in the service of the public, it's basically an employment agency for folks in service for themselves. Pros: Pretty front lobby. Cons: Patient population, First in line staff, Governance more
