I was very disappointed to dine here yesterday evening. The service was terrible, the food was cold, and the manager wasn't even there to save our night! Cons: Service, Food, ...

Pros/Cons 10/15/2006

The food was good and came out in a reasonable time. I got there early about 11:00am on a weekday which is probably why it was empty. Being empty was actually good after having my nervous system repeatedly raped over and over again by the San Francisco traffic. There were about five different beers to try. A pale ale, an amber, an IPA, a porter and I believe a double IPA. All were okay except the porter. It was sour. The waiter told me the porter always tasted that way!!? more

Lousy Customer Service 10/10/2006

But great for everything else! The first time I dined here it took much to long for us to get our drinks and even longer to get our food. The one savior was the food- good wuality at a great price. The second time I expected a different experience, but everything remained the same. Both times the restaurant was nearly empty, but somehow the server always seems to be distracted by anything and everything BUT waiting on customers. I have to say I might be back if only for the great happy hour specials. Pros: Never crowded, great food Cons: Poor service more

Stick to the beer and fries at the bar 9/23/2006

From now on when I go to Eldo's it will just be to grab a microbrew and a plate of fries (their house specialty, ""Eldo's Fries,"" include a hot chile oil, a blue cheese sauce and pan-fried garlic - very yummy). The last time we met friends there for dinner, the service was slow and unattentive. Also, there was a steady, loud stream of rave music (think the ""Cave Scene"" from Matrix Reloaded) that didn't allow for much conversation. Pros: Microbrews, "Eldo's Fries, " good neighborhood Cons: Really poor service more

Best Margarita in San Francisco 9/23/2006

I went here for dinner with some friends and we had the best time. I ordered a ""House Margarita"" and my friend ordered a Hibiscus Margarita. They were both delicious! The service\r was great and they were playing the best house music I have heard in a long time! I had the \r hamburger with eldos fries!!!! Yummmy!! If you love great food, great service and the best margaritas in the city, go to Eldos you wont be disappointed!!! Pros: Margaritas, beer, food Cons: parking more

Delicious tapas! 12/24/2005

Ate there for the first time last night, and wow! Amazingly good food, and a comfortable, intimate atmosphere. The noise level was low enough to be able to hold a conversation without raising our voices. We tried four of the tapas - quail in smoked peanut sauce, salad of mixed greens with pomegranate seeds, chipotle camarones, and the empanadas. Each dish was incredibly tasty, and beautifully presented. The server was properly attentive without hovering. Highly recommended! Pros: great food, imaginative menu, not too noisy more

New small plates menu is outstanding! 12/13/2005

I recently ate here and tried the new menu. The food is outstanding and could fit in with any fine dining cuisine downtown. Our server informed us that the menu transition isn't complete yet, so some of the old items remain - for now. The pricing is standard for a tapas menu, but is a bargain for the flavors. The empanadas and conchinita pilbil were the best I've ever had, as were the halibut grilled in banana leaf and the hangar steak with butternut squash. The beer is some of the best around, which is good because there isn't much for wine - hopefully that will change. I can't wait until the transformation is complete. It's great to have food of this quality in Inner Sunset. Pros: Excellent Food, Great Beer, Close to MUNI Cons: Needs better wine more

Horrible Service! 11/19/2005

I just went there this weekend, and they had horrible service! It seems like they are always under staffed or something. We ordered drinks, took more than 20min to get them, and the appetizers took more than 30min. They came back to ask if we wanted to get the 2nd drinks which was nice, but then it took more than 30 min to give me a glass of water that I asked. Maybe it was my bad day, but I wouldnt go back there. Pros: good beer Cons: long wait for food more

TAPAS! 11/11/2005

Last night was the 1st time my husband & I have eaten here since it opened (I think a few years ago). It was good before, but we tend to find ourselves exploring new places. I can say that we will now be back more regularly. They have fine-tuned & refined the place. The Tapas menu is new, I believe and VERY GOOD. We ordered several items and a pitcher of beer and the best caramel desert I ever encountered. Our server was perfect. She shared her favorites and checked in on us appropriately. The place is warm toned and comfortable. It is a good place to come and enjoy the background of a basketball or baseball game while dining on tasty small plates. The value is very good - we had all the above for about $75 including tip. more

Great happy hour 11/1/2004

I've been to Eldos a few times, always for happy hour. The food is good, some things are just okay but the Eldos fries are awesome. The beer is great and you can't beat the happy hour prices, $10 a pitcher! The bartenders have always been friendly. They could come over a bit more quickly but I'd still highly recommend the place. Pros: Happy Hour, Chill Decor, Tasty Beer more

Great Value 11/12/2003

Although this grill is located in an extremely noisy neighborhood, it serves up good burgers and sandwiches. It is a bit noisy though. Service isn't too hot, but this is a grill. come for the happy hours (3-7) for cheap beer. Pros: Good Food, Cheap, good value Cons: parking, noisy, bad service more

Fantastic 9/19/2003

I visited this place when it was the GG brewery and was disappointed when it closed. I just got back into the neighborhood and thought I'd give them a try. Reading the reviews did not distract me from forming my own opinion. Came in on a monday afternoon and was greeted by a very friendly bartender. He was helpful and helped me with my beer selection. All their beer is brewed in house, contrary to prior reviews. I had such a positive experience that I came back later that week with some friends and the experience again was great. This time we ordered from the menu and were not disappointed. Now Eldo's has become my hang out and love the ambiance and all. As a fact thier Vienna Lager placed #3 in the State Fair, good enough reason to visit them. Pros: Moderate, Great Beer Cons: Parking is hard more

Hear THIS Story! 4/25/2003

Walked in for dinner on a Thursday night. No host to greet us, so we seated ourselves. Menus and a drink order were hard to come by. My husband ordered a non-house beer and was told ""we don't serve that"". Indeed they do. We ordered two Caesars and received ONE blue cheese salad. When I pointed this out to the waitress, she said ""but it looks so much like Caesar dressing!"". Entrees came before the salads were cleared, and I was astonished to find that my pasta dish had prosciutto in it. I do not eat pork and had I known, I never would have ordered it (it was a special and the waitress' description made no mention). When this was pointed out to her she said, ""what is brosciutto?"". Nothing was taken off of our bill for the outrageously bad service. The service at this place is a JOKE. Cons: Poor Service more

Disappointed! 3/4/2003

I was very disappointed to dine here yesterday evening. The service was terrible, the food was cold, and the manager wasn't even there to save our night! Cons: Service, Food, No Manager more

Vampires beware! 2/6/2003

I very much like the look and feel of Eldos - dark wood, polished, light at just the right level. Our server and the various busboys that attended us were very pleasant and seem to enjoy being there. We started with a couple of house beers, which are excellent, and very delicious chips with tasty guacamole and salsa verde. However, my entree was disappointing - the chicken was cooked unevenly - the leg and wings were delectable, but the breast was so dry as to be inedible. In addition, the spinach was mixed with entirely too much garlic - if they had used half the amount, it would have been perfect. The plaintains were outstanding, though. My date enjoyed her blackened catfish much more. Pros: Beer, Service, Ambience Cons: Entrees more

Terrible Service 2/4/2003

Don't be fooled by Eldo's exterior...I'd never go there again! Came in on a Sunday morning and there was no host to greet us, as well as the several other groups that came after us...so we were left there standing unsure of whether to take our own seats or not. Service from the waitress was terrible, too casual and unprofessional...the food wasn't that great either! No wonder you don't need reservations to eat here! more

Great food, beer, and service! 1/30/2003

I just moved into this neighborhood after having lived in the Haight, North Beach, and the Mission. I wish those other neighborhoods had an Eldos. Their menu has a slightly mexican twinge, but there is something for everyone. The cheesesteak was great, and their brunch is really good. Everything is quite fresh and well prepared. If you are a beer drinker, they may have the best brewed beer in the city. more

bad ratings undeserved 8/26/2002

The bad reviews given earilier for this restaurant were quite undeserved. The food was good and reasonably priced. The fish and chips were excellent and the hamburger was very good. The only strange thing about this restaurant was the lack of customers! Pros: good food, brew pub more

Good news, good beer 8/12/2002

After seeing some of the other reviews, didn't know what to expect. Went with another beer buddy on a Saturday and had great time. Food was good and the 4 house-brewed beers were all very good, especially the pilsner. I'll go back, for sure. I went here went it was Golden Gate Brewing and it is still a nice space. Hope the get more customers, tho. Pros: nice looking place, good beers, good food more

Very friendly staff, great beer 7/30/2002

I read the first two reviews in City Search and almost didn't go to the restaurant. I decided I had to try it anyway. I loved the staff. I had the totally opposite experience, they were friendly and sociable. I actually got into an interesting conversation with one of the staff. The beer is fantastic! Try the Vienna. I also had the Seared Ahi Tuna salad and it was quite good (tuna was fantastic, but there was too much sauce on the cabbage underneath). The chips and salsa were exceptional. I love warm chips! If you are a fan of tiramisu then get it here, it's the real stuff. Please do go, I would love to keep this kind of business in my neighborhood... fresh beer, mmmmm. Prices were reasonable as well. Pros: friendly staff, great atmosphere, great beer Cons: a little pricey more

Terrible Service, Decent Food. 7/23/2002

The food isn't bad (though overpriced), but the service is atrocious. There were maybe 10 customers in the place, but after standing at the almost empty bar for 10 minutes watching the bartender and the wait staff goofing off at the end of the bar, rather than help the customers, my party and I left. It was too bad because the seven of us planned to stay for a while. Instead of wasting your time at Eldos with overpriced food and terrible service, you should go to the pizzeria right next door. Almost every day is $2.50 pitcher night and the food and service are good. Cons: Terrible Service, Overpriced more
