I would recommend Ela's Producing workshops to anyone who have especially not gone to Film schools or even otherwise. Anyone who wants to know ins and outs about the film Industry - sort of peeling off of the myth about ""In Films, rule of Being successful only if you know Clint Eastwood"". more

I took Ela's Producing Workshop and it completely changed my perspective. I was able to set realistic goals, come up with a plan, set a date for my next film, and gain the knowledge on how to do this with a super low budget. more

ela's class is perfect for actors/writers/directors 5/28/2011

having been an actor in new york city for 6 years, i'm at the point where i'd like to create my own work and have a little more control over the direction in which my career goes. i love the entire creative process of generating an idea in the mind, putting it to paper, workshopping the scene in class and then casting it and having it performed in front of a class of your peers. what better way to have immediate feedback on your writing...from ela's notes to the other students' notes to hearing/feeling what works/doesn't work in real time with the actors. i'm still working on finding my voice and understanding story structure, but i feel i will find it in ela's class. she's very clear and patient with students, meeting you right where you are, and giving you the tools you need to just take that first step. being in her class and meeting/working with other writers has helped me (1) improve my acting (2) give me confidence that one day i too can be/will be a writer working on my own projects and (3) the incredible talent of the other writers is priceless. i've read some of the best scripts in her class and i look forward to seeing them on the big screen one day and remembering that i was a part of the incubation stage. more

Fun and 5/4/2011

Ela is a wonderful teacher and a lot of fun. You will really enjoy her class on directing the camera. I came into class knowing next to nothing about directing, but after a weekend with Ela's, I am so much more knowledgeable and quite certain I can be the next Sidney Lumet. Seriously take her class - you won't regret it! more

After twenty years of working in the film business I have not met a better, more insightful and effective teacher of screenwriting than Ela Thier. Her easy-going nature, down-to earth style, combined with her writing experience and highly-effective way of communicating make her classes the best I've ever experienced. I highly recommend her school. more

As a teacher, Ela is informative, engaging, funny, and real. She is a great personality who is warm and truly cares about and connects with her students. Hers are the most supportive, non-judgemental, and just all-around helpful classes in the arts I've ever taken. She will help you pursue your interests and realize your talents. She is, in short, damn good at what she does. Do not miss out. more

Highly effective & highly recommended 4/26/2011

Ela?s screenwriting classes have such a positive, supportive vibe... it?s almost like therapy! They are especially conducive to overcoming writing blocks--it?s hard to imagine any student of hers not feeling inspired to produce work. And the progress everyone makes in her classes is apparent and exciting to witness. Really the best, most effective creative writing class I have ever encountered. more

If you've ever thought about writing or producing a film, you must know Ela Thier. Take her class. Any of her classes. Beyond teaching you the rules, the structure, the 'how to' and the whatnot...Ela does something even more vital--she empowers you, or rather, frees you to empower YOURSELF. Make your own opportunities. You can do this. You will write your script. You will make your movie. Begin by taking action. Begin by taking Ela's class. Take a class from Ela Thier and remove all doubt. I can not think of how to endorse or recommend Ela and her classes more highly. more

This is the best writing school I have ever attended due to the superb quality of Ela Their?s instruction. She is compassionate about her work and her enthusiasm spills over. She is a great motivator, always encouraging and empowering you to be your best. She generously provides the structure and tools needed which in turn motivates you to write. She offers constructive feedback that gives you direction without ever losing the inspiration to write. more

Best Screenwriting Workshop in NYC 4/26/2011

Ela's classes are terrific. I've read over 30 books on writing--which includes such heavy weights as Strunk and White's Elements of Style, Stephen King's On Writing, and William Zinzer's On Writing Well--and I still got so much out of her classes. In fact, I felt I learned more in her two day screenwriting class than I did reading all of my books, combined. If you're looking for a writing coach in NYC (whether film, theater, or fiction/non-fiction), check out her classes. You won't be disappointed. more

My sister and I came from South Carolina to take Ela's Producing Workshop and our lives have been changed FOREVER. We have completed four of our own short films in one year, and produced numerous others in the Columbia, South Carolina area. In addition, we have given back by starting a film networking group in our area. Ela's workshops are worth every penny - and more. more

best thing that ever happened to me 4/25/2011

I used to think I had to make a million bucks or get in miraculously with the ""big league"" to be a working creating artist and to be successful in this business. But these classes teach you something else. The teacher, Ela, is not only encouraging, (she helped me believe in my own abilities), but she also gives her students the tools to do those things in a real and pragmatic way. You have fun, you learn hands on experience and you get to see a master at work whenever Ela teaches by example. All in all pretty cool , I recommend. more
