El Sombrero Mexican

We've loved the food and, at times, it feel short. We've had great tequila drinks, but at time, that too fell short. I have not figured it out, maybe what Chef is on? but looks like staffing is important at El Sombrero's Price is fair - portions are good. You'll usually take some to go. Atmosphere is above average. They were always very polite and welcoming. I would recommend this place. Keeping in mind that I am not a Mexican person. more

This is a long standing Mexican restaurant that could only survive here in the northeast. The salsa was on a par with what you can find on your local grocer's shelves. Our enchiladas suizas (chicken filled with tometillo (sic) sauce) to the pescada Santa Fe (broiled scrod with gallic and spices) entrees were each flavorless. First of all, I would like to start off by saying that we moved from AZ knowing in advance that there was likely no legitimate Mexican cuisine in the Northeast. We have not been proved wrong thus far. We went to El Sombrero as a last ditch effort and were completely dissatisfied. The salsa is nothing more than ketchup with cilantro. Yuck!!! Ground beef tacos, with salt as the chief spice? Retarded. The ""Mexican food"" is a joke. Number of Mexican beers on tap: zero. Please. For Pete's sake, the combination number four (""cuatro"" en espanol) was spelled with a Q. Couldn't you even hire someone from near Mexico to spellcheck the menu? I implore you, if you have never left sight of the Atlantic, do yourself a favor and hop on a plane to the southwest, or better yet, south of the border. the food is absolutely amzing. it's a little mom and pop type operation. the atmosphere is inviting and comfortable. it's a great family restaurant with authentic live music with a little mariachi band. all the food is handmade fresh, including the complimentary chips and salsa. the bar is a nice little niche for drinks after work or a total blast for a night out on the town.
