Always Satisfied by the Food & Service 3/15/2010

Whenever I am in Wine Country this is a MUST. I have been for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or just dessert & drinks. The service is always friendly & warm. The food is always creative & fresh. I had the short rib. It was the HUGEST rib I have ever had, cooked so tenderly it just sweat moisture! The horseradish creme frache was mild & added just the right amoung to accent flavours. We asked for a veggie substitute(i dont particularly like glazed carrots, i will admit they are good though)& received braised broccoli which was superb. The pureed potatoes had me wishing for multiple servings of it. Our server was attentive and knew the menu well. He recomeneded the s'mores dessert that had us never wanting the messy camping style again. The ganache was rich, dark, chocolatey guilt & well worth it!! (Side point..... I have been here when the large fig tree in the courtyard bares its fruit & have had the FINEST fig desserts!!! ) I have tried other restaurants in the area & find myself always longing to find what new favorites I will find on their menu! Ed K.....I LOVE YOU! Pros: Downtown Sonoma, Outdoor dining more

Truffle fries are a must 9/23/2009

While visiting Sonoma recently many folks referred us to the El Dorado. I honestly expected it to be better. The Petaluma Chicken and Short Ribs were just ok. The truffle fries are pretty addictive though and leave room for dessert because you will want them all. Pros: Truffle Fries, great dessert list, pretty room more

Great! 9/7/2009

The food was fantastic. Lobster risotto was great. My boyfriend had the pork tenderloin, which he thought was the best food he'd ever put in his mouth. Great patio seating. Pros: patio, food more

Best price on the Downtown Plaza 9/15/2006

My boyfriend & I were recently in Sonoma & booked at the El Dorado. As soon as we walked in, we knew we had found the perfect place for us! It's got Hip/Contemporary feel to it. The room was simple, a bed, table, TV, closet & a mini-fridge. We had a cute little balcony overlooking the pool. We knew there was no room service, bellman, concierge, etc. Either way everyone we spoke to at the front desk was friendly & made great suggestions for us. For the price & location you can't find a better deal! Pros: Location & price Cons: minimal noise due to location, but we wanted to be in the heart of town more

Not relaxing at all - louder than North Beach 8/9/2005

My boyfriend and I stayed at the El Dorado in hopes of a quiet weekend in the wine country. While the bed and TV were very nice and modern, the walls in the place are paper-thin. I could hear every car that passed the hotel, and every guest who would walk down the hall, open a door, or use the restroom. For the price we paid to stay there, I had been expecting a more relaxing experience. Pros: location, bed linens, clean Cons: loud, small rooms more

The Best in the Plaza 6/24/2002

The El Dorado was great for my wife and myself! We are not bed-n-breakfast people so we needed something a little more ""spunky"". We first had a street-side room but requested a change due to some traffic noise. Switching to a pool side room made the difference. The spanish villa decor, fluffy King-sized bed, vaulted ceiling, huge French doors to the pool and quick access to the street. The staff is very helpful but not in your way, which we prefer. more
