When I left LIRV (Eddie's), I told them I would be doing this. The police even warned me not to leave my RV there. I'll get to that part in a bit.\r
\r
Any Long Island RV enthusiasts, like myself, will quickly realize when you need anything RV related, its comes down to picking the least scammy / grimey place around. Thats how I ended up giving LIRV a shot, I was mildly disappointed with Don's on 112. Well, Don's my man again. \r
\r
I wanted to get a quote for some basic work on my old Itasca, which I love! My awning needed fabric and my hot water tank leaked. So, I talked about it with them. The sales lady yess me to death and told me how there was no charge for the estimate. Thats why I had them look at it, because they specifically told me that. And, I read the contract and made sure I wasn't going to get screwed. I didn't even sign the part about the mechanics lease. I was careful and it said 'request estimate'.\r
\r
The appointment they gave me was for 1 month away - bummer! I did take it. The date passed, weeks passed. I called, I almost gave up after a month PAST the date they were going to look at it had passed. Then, the call - they had prepared the estimate.\r
\r
I should have known, it was bull. Lines drawn everywhere, notes over notes with numbers crossed out and bigger numbers written over other numbers. They told me nothing could be fixed, everything had to be completely replaced, and would cost $2000 - $1000 for the awning, $1000 for the water tank. \r
\r
I politely declined. Then they tell me its going to cost about $180 for the estimate. The same lady who told me there would be no charge now told me they are charging me 2 hours of labor to tell me what I already knew! I refused to pay. They withheld my RV. I talked to the police and they came down. The owner is such a jerk. I actually followed thru and filed a complaint against him. He wouldnt fold even as I scared off everyone coming in to shop by telling them what was happening. \r
\r
The police wouldnt force him to release the vehicle even though I hadn't signed the mechanics lease portion because it wasn't relevant. I filed the complaint. The cop, as the sun was going down, told me that if it went to court the vehicle would be here the whole time and the jerk would be charging me $200 a day for storage, which I would have to pay even if I won, then take them to court again for that money. He also told me I should expect a broken windshield at the least when I come to pick it up.\r
\r
So at the police officer's suggestion, I talked to the slime ball one more time. I gave that crook $60 bucks, all I had on me, and he released my vehicle.\r
\r
I later found out that Eddy has been charged with theft already and thays why the place is LIRV now. I hope they all go to hell. Don't be fooled by the size or initial appearance of this place. They are crooks and its the worst place in NY for RV stuff.
