I purchased a used home that had never had the ducts or furnace cleaned. I also fully remodeled it, so there was a lot of dust and debris in the duct work from construction. I shopped around and was told by EcoClean that I would get the ducts and vents cleaned with more care and time than other places...that they would spend 3-4 hours, while other places would only be there 1-2 hours. I decided to go with them, but I'm disappointed I did. I believe my ducts are free of any loose debris, but one of the reasons I really wanted the cleaning done was that one of the vents in particular seemed to have all kinds of gunk in it left from previous owners. It was stuck on the duct work, and I made the wrong assumption that Ecoclean would clean it. To me, clean means CLEAN...not "only what our vacuum and brushes can get." I assumed that their "eco" methods meant that they had eco-friendly solutions to help loosen stuck on items, while others would use chemicals. They don't have ANY solutions to use...only the vacuum and brush. The owner claimed that they have solutions if you want the ducts "washed," but the technician that was here said he'd never heard of them doing that and didn't have any solutions on the truck.
Additionally, I had a re-usable filter on my furnace, which they also said they'd clean. The technician claimed to never have seen a re-usable filter, but said he'd "blow it out" and get clean what he could. He brought it back and it looked no better than when he took it out, saying that's all he could do. I called the company owner while the technician was here and asked about the vent and the filter, saying that I was confused that things aren't getting clean. His response was that "clean doesn't mean washing." What?!?! I get that they wouldn't "wash" the entire duct system, but when the vents have obvious debris right there where you look at them, I was shocked to hear that they wouldn't at least "clean" that. I shared this with him and he said, "you're just trying to get something more out of us," and then told me to give the phone to his tech, saying he'd clean the vent and the furnace filter.
I appreciate that he did take care of it, but his attitude was anything but true customer service oriented. In addition, the technician leaned the cover to my furnace up against my wall to clean it, and when he left, I found two gouges in my wall which I will have to fill and re-paint, as well as streams of dirt drip marks where the dirt he was cleaning dripped onto and down my wall. He also did not remove his shoes indoors like the marketing videos claim they do, and it was wet and rainy outside that day. The technician acted polite to my face, but constantly muttered things under his breath as he walked away from me after I asked him questions or shared my concerns about the work.
I'm extremely disappointed about the whole process. I believe that EcoClean is using "eco" as a marketing tactic. Any duct cleaner will refrain from using sanitizer after air blowing, brushing and vacuuming the ducts and it will be the same "eco" level of work. What I was looking for was a company who really cared about creating a healthy environment for me and my family, and wanted to truly clean my vents and ducts. I would not recommend this company again, and I would also know now the kinds of questions to ask of another company if I were to pay fees to clean ducts again. To me, customer service is important. You don't accuse a customer of "trying to get something" when they are simply asking why they aren't getting what they expected, and you should make good on promises made, particularly when you promise 3-4 hours and the things I was asking about kept the technician well under that time frame. Clarity should be laid out up front so as not to be in any way deceptive, yet as a customer, one should be sure to ask more questions too.
