Duck this Duck 3/11/2008

As a Peking duck afficionado, I was disappointed to find the dish different from the usual mahogany lacquer colored, succulent duck usually served. The presentation was beautiful, very lean dry, boned duck surrounded by crispy defatted skin. The pancakes are a bit gummy, but thin and translucent. Perhaps this duck is the healthier lean version for today's cholesterol conscious diner. The layout of the restaurant is disconcerting. We were a group of four and the best tables for small groups seems to be in front. Tables at the back are subjected to disinfectant odors coming from the bathroom which is not conducive to dining visually or aromatically. We had the bok choy with monkey mushroom, coconut chile shrimp and a beef dish. The mushrooms must be an acquired taste as the flavor, color and texture reminded me of a cellulose sponge, not that I've eaten any sponges of late... The beef dish was very good, tender and tasty, but unremarkable. The presentation of all the dishes was excellent and I give them an ""A"" for visuals. The portions were generous but the Peking duck would not have fed 8 as one reviewer remarked. The service was attentive and unobtrusive. I like that they replaced our small plates several times. To be fair, three out of four of us were disappointed. One was ecstatic over the duck.\r Dessertarian more

Wonderful restaurant! 11/11/2006

Listen to all of the Citysearch reviews before me. This is one of the premier Chinese restaurants in all of Southern California. The Peking duck is fabulous, especially the crispy skin. The duck bone soup is also quite wonderful. If you have the money and the people, get the lo mai eel as well. The owner is wonderful and gave us a free dessert of passion fruit konnyaku. She can customize a dinner for you.\r Pros: lychee-infused black tea, Peking Duck, lo mai eel, A-Tsai more

Duck Duck Goose 9/16/2006

I LOVE IT! I LOVE IT! I LOVE IT! Absolutely the best peking duck. It is very well prepared. They actually trim off the fat on the skin so you don't have to. The skin is soooo CRISPY! You can choose what you want to do with the duck meat, like stir fry with vegetables or you can just have the meat as it is. The glutinous rice is also very good. The fried shrimp is very good. The service is very good too as they help make suggestions. Remember to call ahead for the duck. Pros: CRISPY DUCK! more

Best Beijing Duck in Los Angeles!!! 7/14/2006

If you want real authentic Beijing duck, then you must come to this restaurant. Their Chinese food is not the typical Chinese food you find everywhere, this is real authentic Chinese food. If you go there, make sure you call in first for the Beijing Duck, because they only make them when customers call for them and it needs one hour prior to your dinner or lunch time. The service is great and you can see from the bar table the awards the chef has won for cooking contests. If you call them, ask to speak to Catherine, she is the manager or the owner, and she will put in your order of Beijing duck and ask her to help you order because she knows the best combinations of foods to order. The service is great and the food was delicious. If you go on the weekends, make sure you call to make the reservations, it is packed, but the food is worth the wait. Highly recommended Pros: Beijing Duck, food, service more

Best Peking Duck in LA! 2/23/2006

The Peking Duck was wonderfully prepared. All other dishes were delicious as well. I highly recommend this restaurant to those who want to taste a real Peking Duck out of China. Pros: good food, good service, easy parking more

Best authentic Peking duck in town 4/20/2005

I became a regular customer at Lu Din Gee about two months ago. The first time I stepped into the restaurant, I fell in love with the ambiance and the friendly servers. The setting is like an old Shanghai restaurant, but the background music is the Classic Jazz. Their Peking was made to order. The duck skin was crispy and not greasy. The pancake was handmade. They prepared the duck in 3-5 ways (soup, stir-fry, salad...) Chef Catherine just recently won the 2nd prize of Chinese Iron Chef. Her signature dishes are also fabulous. Pros: Inexpensive, Quality, Good Parking more
