There is no worse feeling as a parent than seeing your child hurt, bleeding, and in pain , but that was us 2 months ago when our 3 year old fell at a trip to grandmas house. I was terrified as i saw my daughters mouth not only bleeding but he teeth shifted up and inward. It was 10 pm(waaaay past bedtime) and i called the office, and left a message. Within 5 minutes i had not only 1 but 2 missed calls from Dr. Downey. He told us to come in (it was a weekend and afterhours) he was so patient, calming, my husband and i said he treated her as if she was his own child in the chair. He even giggled along as my daughter ""tooted,"" over and over throughout the entire check. When we left close to midnight, my little one was puffy, and sore, but smiling. We got a call from the office checking up on her and to check her teeth in two weeks, no charge. This time our little one was thrilled, to go back and see him again. The Doctors at Dentistry for Children treat their patients little toddler or teen, like they are their own. They continue to amaze me, and we are so thankful for a good family business, that cares for your little ones. more

I have 3 daughters who quite eagerly ask me often, ""When is our next dentist appointment?"" It's just because they have been treated so well by Dr. Downey and his staff. My youngest one needed 4 fillings at the tender age of 4 and I thought to myself that it was going to make future dentist visits a really stressful event, but Dr. Downey handled it so nicely that he is my daughter's ""favorite dentist for ever!!"" more

My two children had a great experience at Behind the Smile. This office was recommended to me by a family friend and I am so glad she did. My son is autistic and usually gets very anxious at the dentist. Dr. Ashley and staff made him feel very comfortable and he had no problems at his first visit (or the next two visits). My daughter also saw Dr. Ashley for her very first dental exam and she actually had fun! I also love that the doctors send personal notes after the visits. I will recommend Behind the Smile to all of my friends and family. more

Our kids have both had traumatic mouth injuries and we have taken them here for each episode. The staff and doctors put both the parents and kids at ease.\r We love the game center in the waiting room and the movies above the chair.\r Great place for routine or emergency care! more

Dr. Carolyn and her team have all been thoughful and patient with my 2 year old. Their easy going manner put him at ease. He loves reading and playing in the waiting room and getting his toy when he is all done! Making appointments is easy as well. I showed up on the wrong day for one appointment and they managed to get us in anyway! more

My son had been going to our family dentist for a couple of years and each visit was filled with so such much anxiety and fear that he wouldn't even sit in the exam chair alone. On the recommendation of a good friend, we decided to switch dentists and see Dr. Carolyn. OMG, what a difference! Is this the same boy? My son actually completed a full exam, cleaning, xrays and fluoride treatment without a single tear. In the past, he never even got past the cleaning. He is no longer afraid of the dentist because he knows he'll be going back to Dr. Carolyn and her excellent hygienists. This is THE PLACE for kids! - June Nakamura more

My son had such a wonderful experience at this office! Dr. Downey and his staff made him feel very calm and comfortable for what could have been an extremely uncomfortable procedure. I'm a 14 years old and used to hate going to the dentist but Dr Downey and the staff there are so nice it makes it enjoyable to go to the dentist. I'm not saying I count the days untill i go but, I always leave feeling fresh and clean. more

We've always been welcomed warmly by the friendly staff. Nice clean waiting area and treatment chairs. My kids love playing with the touch screen computer on the wall - their favorite! Dr. Carolyn and staff have always made visits a good experience even if it was more than a check-up and cleaning. I've only gone to the Hillsboro office which is in a great location close to Streets of Tanasbourne. I highly recommend Dentistry for Children! - Priti Chandran more

All three of my children go to them and everyone in this office are warm, caring, and highly professional, while creating a fun and ""not so scary"" environment for the kids. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Carolyn and her staff at Dentistry for Children. Over the years, I have had many fillings and a couple of root canals and have acquired a bit of a fear of dentists, but I did not want to pass that on to my kids. We tried several children's dentist, and Dr. Carolyn has BY FAR been the sweetest most gentle dentist we have ever seen. The entire staff has a great attitude, and that is hard to find at any business. Also, I feel that she only does the work that is needed, and I never feel pressured to do any ""extras"" - especially because we do not have insurance. I cannot believe that my children look forward to their dental visits!! more

WONDERFUL experience every time!!! Both of my children go to Behind the Smile and they have seen Dr. Downey, Dr. Carolyn and most recently Dr. Ashley. My expectations are ALWAYS exceeded every time we go!! We are always met with the warmest reception, in a very friendly environment while the hygienists and Dr.'s provide the best dental care and advice!! My 2 year old son is very squirmy, so when it came time for his exam, I was very impressed when Dr. Ashley sang the ABC song to keep him engaged and interested! And Dr. Carolyn kept my 6 year old calm when she was applying sealant on her molars through a very funny conversation! I can't recommend this practice enough!!! more

We have been to this office twice now and both visits have been very positive for the kids. They have seen Dr. Carolyn and Dr. Ashley and both are GREAT with children. We had the same hygienist both times and she was wonderful. My younger child hates going to the doctor and dentist and everyone here has been great in working with her. She had to have one cavity filled and I was so worried that it would be a horrible experience for her but Dr. Ashley did such a great job and even sang to her while working. I highly recommend this practice! more

We have been going to Dr. Carolyn for over 3 years. The office is very clean & modern. I have an 8 & 5 yr old, they both love going there. They actually beg me to go! The office has games & books to entertain the children while they wait & a tv on the celing to watch while they are in the chair. The staff have always been very polite to me, even when my oldest had a few cavities. I would highly recommend them!!! Pros: Great location, clean, kids love it! more

We took my 5 year old daughter to the dentist my husband and I go to and she had a very bad experience so they recommended Dentistry For Children. We were able to see Dr. Carolyn the next day. My daughter did much better. The most helpful thing is they have a TV on the ceiling that is playing cartoons that I wouldn't normally allow her to watch all the time at home like Scooby Do. So it was like a great treat to her and kept her very distracted. They give the child a choice of scents for the ""happy gas"" and call the mask for it a kitty cat nose and they call the suction thing Mr. Thirsty, which helped put my daughter at ease. They also showed her all of the tools and what they would do with them before they started working on her teeth. The waiting room is clean and has a fun atmosphere for kids. The office is modern and clean and decorated with children's artwork and bright colors. Because my daughter is small, they used a giant stuffed animal under my daughters knees to help her be more comfortable and positioned correctly in the chair. They work fast too.\r \r The thing I didn't like was how they treated me, the parent. They lectured me about how to brush her teeth and why and when and where, etc. It's one thing to educate a parent on brushing a child's teeth, but they were just plain rude about it. I have been doing the best I can. She can be very uncooperative during teeth brushing to the point that I was having to hold her down and pry her mouth open to brush. But they didn't want to hear it, they just wanted to give me a guilt trip and the bill. Pros: TV on the ceiling, fun atmosphere for kids, they were great with my daughter, they work quickly, make sure all of your questions are answered Cons: Although Dr. Carolyn and the assistant were kind and friendly toward my daughter, they were not so nice to me. more
