Best

Man do they pile it on. If you like it hot and you like big portions.

Worst

This is not even the 4th best Q in the area. It's a good thing that the criteria is ""mouth numbing"" and not good tasting! The meat is too fatty, over cooked (seems boiled rath...

Once a gas station, Always a gas station 9/6/2002

Way too Hot. Everytime I go I think I can handle The Man. Everytime I am put in my place. Gene Porter has created a unique little place that is a treat to visit. If you like BBQ, or even if you don't, you have to try this place so you can nod knowingly when someone says they've ""met The Man."" Perhaps there is better BBQ here or elsewhere, but no other establishment offers the same ""ambiance"". As Gene says ""once a gas station, always a gas station"" Pros: Unique, Hot!!!!!!!!!!, Cheap Cons: SoupNaziesque more

The Man Needs Lessons 8/29/2002

As a native Texan, I know what real barbecue is supposed to taste like -- and this ain't it! Everyone keeps telling me to go see The Man for real BBQ. Well, I did and they obviously have never tasted real BBQ. The best BBQ I've found is either 3 Pigs in Belleuve or Manna's in Greenwood. Either choice offers REAL barbecue that makes The Man's seem quite awful. I'm sure he's a nice guy and all, but his BBQ leaves much to be desired. Pros: Hmmm... Cons: Bad BBQ, Hard to find, Mostly hype more

best bbq in town 8/25/2002

Dixie's BBQ is a little hard to find, but once you do, you'll never forget where it is and you'll be dying to go back whenever you're in the area. The food is great, service isn't great, but you go knowing that. It's sort of like Seattle's version of the soup natzi. The attitude adds to the fun. Everyone has to ""Meet the Man"" for the total experience, even if it's just a dip with the toothpick. Portions are huge. more

Styrofoam 8/20/2002

If you think that this is BBQ you might as well just eat the silly styrofoam that the gloppy mess comes in. And, if you think that ""The Man"" is a taste delight, you ought to search the corners of this converted garage for battery acid. This BBQ place is a joke. Only in Seattle (Bellevue) or Portland could this place even hope to pull it off as a restaurant. Pros: Hard to get there, Crummy attitude, Bad Food Cons: ...probably eat here more

Holy Hot! 8/20/2002

The food is great, the atmosphere off-key and the owner is crazy! Makes for a great stop on your tour of Seattle! As a local I make sure everyone gets to see ""the man""! Pros: free parking, casual, great prices Cons: out of the way, vending for drinks more

I met ""The Man!"" 8/20/2002

This is the BEST Barbeque place ever! The food is great, and the people are friendly. The best part of every visit is ""meeting the man."" The man is about the spiciest hot sauce ever! This is required of every visitor, so if you like hot and spicy food, then this is your place. If you don't like hot and spicy food, then come anyway and watch your friends ""meet the man"" and build up the guts to try it yourself! Pros: friendly, great food, fun environment Cons: cash only more

Battery acid flavor 8/20/2002

Dixie's is highly overrated--why is it so popular? Possibly because so many of the returning customers have had their taste buds burnt off by the acidic action of ""The Man"". ""Good"" and ""barbeque"" don't belong in the same sentence here--try Milt's, or 3 Pigs, or Longhorn BBQ. You'll still be able to enjoy the flavor of other food long after you've left them, unlike Dixie's. more

Go Early 8/19/2002

Great Atmosphere, Go Early, Go Often. I'm not for standing in long lines so we go out about 11:30 or so to get food. more

10 8/13/2002

Although this restaurant is a hole in the wall, it is the BEST BBQ I have ever had! Gene is the best! Cons: needs a bigger place more

I MET THE MAN AT DIXIE'S BBQ! YEAH BABY! 8/11/2002

For family fun Dixie's is the place to go. Gret food, great atmosphere, and fun people. Dixie's was one of the highlights of my first trip to the seattle area. The hott sauce is hott and if you like to add a little excitement to your meal don't forget to meet the man! It is all a little taste of the southern. And don't forget to put your pin in the map. And if you like that old fashioned corn bread with the whole cernals and the homeade potato salad you will love Dixie's. Pros: fun for everyone, inexpensive, great food Cons: slow service more

Hard to find, but worth the search 8/11/2002

My friends and I stumbled across this place a couple years ago and have been eating there quite often ever since. Apparently others have found it too, as the walls are covered with autographs of local and not so local celebrities and sports stars. more

For Louisiana BBQ - GREAT 8/9/2002

I love the Porters! For Louisiana BBQ, it IS the BEST available within thousands of miles! The next best is in Slidell. LA just before ya get to the Ponchatrain Bridge. No offense Mr. Porter, but HOT don't equal good...the stuff you server is HOT enough without ""The MAN""! It may not be McDonald's but the lines are still to danged long! God Bless you and your loved ones Man! Pros: Good Portions, Made With Love Cons: Lines Too Long more

The Man is worth meeting!! 8/9/2002

As I pulled into the parking lot and saw the long line, I decided I wasn't going to wait in line. But after some consideration, we realized that we had a bit of time and it was Friday so what the heck. I am so glad I did. What a great atmosphere and great food! I wouldn't recommend it to my upper-crust acquaintences... but I really encourage everyone else to try it! Pros: great food, great BBQ sauce, great value Cons: long lines more

Volcano 8/8/2002

This is the Hottest damn BBQ sauce on Earth. It is like it came from the depths of a volcano. more

Super hot stuff 8/8/2002

Food is tasty and the ""man"" sauce is super but not for the timid. Space is limited. Great for a fast lunch that is very good but essentially, you serve yourself. more

5 8/8/2002

Overall Dixies is a great place, but to me BBQ is amout flavor rather than just being hotter than the next guy. They also do not have much in the way of variety (aka no chicken). Pros: location Cons: terrible parking, variety, seating more

excellent 8/8/2002

The food is great value for dollar. I buy in pounds and take home. Everyone loves it. more

Soecial Requests--Dare ya to ask :-) 8/7/2002

Food is really what it's all about. And it's good. Watch out for that hot sauce. Service: If you love the ""soup nazi"" this is your kinda place. Location: It's where? Yes an old gas station buried near the freeway. What better place to have outside seating too. Pros: BBq to die for, relaxed, make the man sing Cons: against everything, a sign? finding it, only one location more

Yeah baby! 8/6/2002

If you haven't eaten here, go soon - actually go on Saturday. Its not crowded and the hot sauce is easily gotten. Great BBQ hot or not! Pros: Great BBQ, Hot sauce unequalled Cons: Its a garage, No parking, Long lines at lunch more

best! 7/29/2002

It is undoubtedly the best BBQ in the great Northwest! You will not find any better! And if you think youre a real man, ask for THE MAN! more
