My family and I (11 people) booked a day trip to Oahu through Discover Hawaii Tours. Discover Hawaii made an error in booking our return flight and although we alerted our tour guide and made several calls to the company, we were stuck there overnight because they refused to tell us the truth and tried to pacify us by saying their driver would be there in 5 minutes when they were clueless. We would have taken a cab back to the airport instead of waiting on the missing driver. 35 minutes later he shows up and races us and others to the airport only to find that we missed our plane back to the Big Island by minutes. Discovery Hawaii could have called Hawaian Airlines to hold the plane for 10 minutes, or told us that they gave us the wrong return flight info and that they would not be able to get us back that night and use the time exploring oahu but instead they allowed us to run around like chickens with our heads cut off for 3 hours making phone calls with no idea what was in store for us. Discover Hawaii feels that putting us up in a crappy airport hotel and giving us a very minimal refund was adequate. The customer service we received was extremely poor and the rep was rude. We were given the name of another person to speak with but received the same response each time we called ""he is not available."" We would like to hear from somebody in the company who actually cares about their customers. They have a saying "" Ohana, We are like family and no one is left behind"" I sure felt left behind tired, hungry, and unprepared to take care of my young family members for an unexpected over night stay. more

We booked a trip 2 months in advance and they ""Discover Hawaii Tours"" cancelled on us 2 days before the excursion. They wanted us to pay $200 more per person. False advertising, or bait and switch? Do not trust them. more

We took the Pearl Harbor/city tour on December 10. Our guide was great - knowledgeable, interesting, funny. If you're signing up for a tour, I'd recommend going the earlier the better. The weather is cooler, and there's still time after the tour for shopping, more sightseeing, etc. more

We were just in Oahu & booked 3 tours through Discover Hawaii Tours. We were in Oahu last year & also used them. We have had great trips with them. Last year we really enjoyed the Circle Island Tour, this year we took the Ultimate Circle Island Tour, which was also excellent and was very different from last year. We have also done the PCC & Pearl Harbor tours through Discover Hawaii. Their driver/guides are informative & entertaining, which makes the whole day enjoyable. more

I took the 8B World War II ""Book end"" tour as well. The guide was excellent. Jesse was friendly, courteous, professional and very informative. I just LOVE history and especially anything having to do with WWII. This was my first time to Pearl Harbor and I'm very glad I went.\r \r I was not too impressed with the Arizona since you could not see very much of her, but the museums in the main area were excellent and very informative. There was just enough time to hit the high spots before we left for the USS Missouri.\r \r Might Mo was the best part of the tour for me. It started with a brief tour on the deck by a member of the Missouri staff. After that you were welcome to go wherever you wanted. The ship had access to everything from the bridge to the kitchen area and living and sleeping areas with written and video information in different areas that were excellent as well. Personally I wish I had more time to spend then the approx. two hours we had there.\r \r After the Missouri it was back with Jesse with more info and humor with a drive and information through historical Honolulu and the Punch Bowl Cemetery which was interesting as well.\r \r Overall an excellent tour that in truth would be cheaper to do yourself, but I felt as a first-timer it was good to get the lay of the land before I went by myself. It was worth the money. Nice job to Jesse and Discover Hawaii Tours more

My husband and I recently took the 8B World War II Start To End tour. Our guide was good, but the tour was too long....really didn't need all that extra time on the Missouri. Also the bus wasn't properly air conditioned; I over-heated and felt sick through the city tour. more

We used DHT for a Pearl Harbor tour and overall it was good. Our guide, Kona, was fabulous and did a great job navigating for our city part of the tour. His was very knowledgeable and entertaining. The ONLY complaint was the fact we had to wait FOREVER for some other customers at other hotels. And that's not Kona's fault, but still annoying. But again, overall a good tour. more

From pick up at the hotel to drop off all the employees of Discover Hawaii Tours were great. Our tour guide, Kalani, was very informative and we had time to enjoy each stop and take pictures. This is a good way to see the sites and learn about the islands and not have to worry about driving, maps, or planning; just ""Moi Moi"" (sit back and relax). I would suggest that you not fly via GO! Airlines as both flights to and from Hilo were delayed by 2 hours (We were the first flight out of HNL and the last flight out of Hilo). Hawaii Airline was ontime for both flights. more

Too long at the Polynesian Center, other than that, it was great. more

over rated tour 5/2/2012

Bus were not air conditioned. A 2 hour tour was stretched to 7 hours. Were left most of day loafing in the sun waiting for the next move. Son got a heat stroke from standing all day in the sun. The Arizona is underwater so we could see nothing. The Missouri was impressive and historical. But too much time is wated on a trip that should last maximum 2 hours. A day later i took my rental car and revisited the Missouri in less than 1 hour, that was buying the ticket and visiting the ship. Driver was friendly and nice. He milked the attack indefinitely. took us on a visit of the city and pointed many points. But this ended eating too much time. more

A few kinks, but a great tour 3/13/2012

When we vacation we like to do just that - be vacationers, not tourists. I usually don't like to use tour companies. That being said, a friend told me that the best way to guarantee tickets into Pearl Harbor is to use a tour company, so I broke down and did it. He recommended Discover Hawaii Tours. We used the company for a day-long excursion to Pearl Harbor and historic Honolulu.\r \r The weather on Oahu had been awful all week, but we were blessed with a little sunshine on our tour day. Unfortunately, we were not blessed with good traffic. Our guide, Hana, was friendly, knowledgable, and funny. He enlightened us on things not on the tour - great places to eat, surf spots, good people-watching, etc. He also knew all the back roads to help us skirt the horrible traffic on the H-1.\r \r When I booked online, our tour package said it included the USS Arizona, the USS Bowfin, the USS Missouri, the Punchbowl National Cemetery, and a driving tour of historic downtown Honolulu. The Arizona was beautiful and amazing, but the Bowfin was not part of our tour (which I didn't learn until we got to Pearl Harbor). Way too much time was allotted for the USS Missouri. We could have used that time to tour the Bowfin. Instead, we toured the Missouri then found ourselves sitting bored for over an hour. \r \r The driving tour of historic Honolulu and the cemetery were a nice way to wrap up the day. All-in-all a good tour though some timing could be reworked to include the USS Bowfin as is stated on the website. more

Great tour of the Big Island! 3/8/2012

We took the one-day tour of the Big Island from Maui, and had a great time. Our tour guide, Kalani, was warm, personable, fun, and full of information about Hawaii history and culture - I would recommend him as a guide to anyone! \r \r The tour included a good number of stops in Hilo, and we made the most of the day despite rainy & overcast weather. There were even a few nice surprises in the tour, including the appearance of sea turtles while we were stopped at one of the beach parks. \r \r We toured much of the Volcano national park, though I would have been glad to have more time there. I felt like a young kid again, amazed by the power and magesty of our earth's primal forces. I would have loved to see a lava flow, but the conditions were not right - certainly can't hold the weather against the tour though :) \r \r Overall, it was a great trip - filled with information, great sights, and a good atmosphere of enjoyment in the group. I'd certainly recommend the Big Island tour! more

Volcano Tour & Pearl Harbor 3/5/2012

We used Discover Hawaii Tours for two tours on our recent trip to Hawaii: one to the Big Island and one to Pearl Harbor. Both of the guides were incredibly knowledgeable on all things Hawaii, entertaining, and talented (from storytelling to guitar playing - we were so impressed with the wide-range of skills that they both had). The guide for the Big Island tour (I'm not sure of his name...he said he went by John, but I'm pretty sure he was joking about that) stopped at a local market in Hilo where we were able to experience some local foods, and he was very flexible about the stops that we made - all depending on what the group was interested in. Tavita was our guide to Pearl Harbor, and he was an excellent storyteller to and from the memorial. They both were also very funny. The only downside to the Big Island Tour was that I felt like there was a lot of waiting (waiting on people to get off the bus, waiting on everyone to get back on the bus so we could go to the next stop, etc.), but I guess that is just the nature of a tour like this. Thankfully, the bus was small, which can't be said for many of the other tour buses that I saw. Overall, we had a great time on both tours, and we would highly recommend that anyone use this company. They were also willing to allow us to make a last minute change in our itinerary, which we really appreciated. Thanks for making our trip to Hawaii so great! We can't wait to come back! more

Great Tour! 2/19/2012

My boyfriend and I really enjoyed this tour! Our guide was Jay and he was very friendly and knowledgeable. He took us to some spots that aren't as well traveled by other guides which was really cool. He also didn't make us feel like we were being chaperoned (which some controlling guides can do) and instead gave us plenty of time for each spot to take pictures and do what we liked. In fact, we considered leaving the group for a while to hike a path we were really interested in and he offered to pick us up in a few hours but we decided against it. A few points of improvement would be to skip the gardens, maybe the chocolate factory and maybe one of the initial stops amongst the lava rocks (there were a good amount) to shorten the day a bit (it did get quite long, but we knew that going into it). The restaurant for lunch wasn't great but wasn't a big deal. And we were a little bummed we didn't get to see flowing lava but that's not really something that Discover can control-instead we got to see the glowing lava from a distance at night which was beautiful. All VERY small things but maybe a note for the future. All in all this was a great tour, great company, and I would highly recommend it for others! more

Nice trip to see the Volcanos on Hawaii 2/17/2012

This Company does a nice job of transporting and giving tours with guides who seemed to know a lot about their subject. It was a very long day, but we were glad we did it. more

Made Up For Their Mistake 9/3/2011

I finally got to go on the Big Island tour with Discover Hawaii Tours. A quality assurance manager called me directly to sort out a past booking situation and even offered me a discount on the tour, which I thought was thoughtful and professional. Luckily, I had Phoenix as a tour guide, who was the absolute best. He is a wealth of knowledge and can probably answer any question you throw at him. He was especially great when the van we were traveling in broke down. He actually pulled out passion fruits that he grew in his garden from the back of the van. He sliced them up and we enjoyed a treat while forgetting about the van for a few minutes. Once we were back on the road Phoenix left the rest of the day's itinerary completely up to us. We could skip dinner and squeeze in more sights, stop for a quick dinner or visit sites that weren't even on the day's agenda. All seven of the people on the tour had a great time, and the energy was great. In a nutshell I am glad I gave the company another chance because you can tell that it values customers and wants to ensure they are satisfied with the tours. I am actually planning on taking a tour to Oahu with Discover Hawaii Tours in a few weeks. more

Excellent knowledge from friendly guides 8/12/2011

We stayed in Hawaii Oahu and wanted to take a tour. we were told that driving in Hawaii is good only if you know what you want to see and how to get there. We just wanted to see Hawaii we didn't know where to begin! My hotel suggested DIscover Hawaii Tour saying they make the most stops. We did and we loved it! Hawaii has so many sights on one island. As our guide told us, Mahalo nuiloa! more
