Best

This was probably the best we have had on GH.... did have to wait a little long, but it was stillll goooooooooooodddd!!

Worst

I order take-out here often enough. Cold brisket I can handle -- I can at least reheat it. But my last order... holy shit. I think they ran out of actual slow-cooked brisket...

YUM YUM! 3/21/2009

I have a love/hate relationship with DinoBBQ. It takes FOREVER to get a table BUT the food is SOooOOo good that you forget about all of that once you sink into those ribs! YUM! Get the Tres Hombres.. brisket, ribs and pulled pork. It hits the BBQ spot. OH and make resevertations! Pros: Kings of BBQ..so good... so tender Cons: Takes 4EVER to get a table more

Must-have BBQ 11/12/2008

As a BBQ lover, I can be quite picky. I LOVE this place. I haven't moved passed the pulled pork sandwiches, as they are so good I can't entertain anything else. The major issue I have with this place is the DENSITY of people. You literally can not get in the door, with the crowds spilling out to the sidewalk and street. Waiting is a hassle, I always get take out. Pros: Pulled Pork Sandwiches with Slaw Cons: Seriously Crowded, SUPER loud more

Good for a quick fix...Very expensive and mediocre 11/12/2008

Cornbread good\r Beans-below avg (more like bean soup)\r Pulled Pork very good\r Sauce -only decent -not even remotely special\r Ribs- Below Average(incredibly dissapointng-bad flavor and bad meat.)\r Mac and cheese- good flavor but noodles too heavy, hard and thick\r Small portions-very expensive\r I would go again and get a pulled pork sandwich. \r Pros: pulled pork.. trendy spacious layout .. Cons: overall mediocre food at best -small portions-terrible value more

Great Wings! 11/3/2008

Love the decor of Dinosaur, large bar area so perfect holding pen for those waiting for tables. I highly recommend the wings, it's a great balance of sweet and spicy. The mac and cheese is also well done and a great complement to the ribs. I do not recommend the brisket, it was dry, dry dry\r Fantastic selection of beer, they rotate the selection according to the season. Def worth the trip uptown\r Pros: Large space so the wait wasn't long Cons: Bathroom could have been cleaner more

DISAPPOINTING 10/23/2008

Tonight I finally tried dinosaur and was extremely disappointed. Tried the ode to elgin and tres hombres. It included ribs, pulled pork, brisket, and sausage. The meats were all bland as could be, with no smoke ring or flavoring at all. Last time I checked, all good bbq has a nice red smoke ring. Also, would it have been too much trouble for them to pull the membrane of the ribs, so that they might have been easier to cut and chew. This has to be the worst BBQ in NYC and I have tried them all. Save your money and try any other bbq joint in the city. Pros: Nothing Cons: EVERYTHING more

Amazing catering in a pinch 9/9/2008

Two hours before our big BBQ house warming party, the caterer called and canceled. Scrambling for ideas, we decided to call Dinosaur Bar-B-Que to see what they could do. We didn't have a whole lot of hope since we needed food for 75 people. In two hours, Dinosaur had put together beans, coleslaw, cornbread, ribs, and chicken. In three hours, they had pulled pork, beef brisket, and salt potatoes. The food was amazing. No one realized the snafu with the original caterer. Dinosaur Bar-B-Que saved our party and the food was probably better than the original caterer's food. Pros: able to make food for 75 in hours more

Long waits but worth it! 7/30/2008

The best fried green tomatos and the best salt potatos. Good beer, nice late night bands and friendly staff. The bartenders are the best. Eating off to the side of bar is our favorite. Really can't go wrong with anything from the menu. Pros: Service, bbq, fried green tomato!!!!!!!!!! more

Good BBQ: Combine with a Hudson River Bike Ride 7/8/2008

NYC outpost a BBQ joint started in Syracuse, New York. While not as good as its upstate parent, Dinosaur offers decent ribs, brisket and pulled pork, with their excellent sauces ranging from mild to very hot. And, the sides of mac and cheese, and fried green tomatoes are quite good. It?s a fun place with music at night. Just keep your expectations grounded! \r \r As an aside, Dinosaur is at the start (or end) of the Hudson River Bike Trail at 125th Street on the Upper West Side, that goes down to Battery Park. For a great day, bring your bike (or rent one-- there are bike rental places along the Hudson), enjoy a fantastic, easy ride up and down the Hudson enjoying the sites and views, and have some BBQ along the way.\r \r For more information, go to: www.thefoodbully.blogspot more

Earns its great reputation! 5/5/2008

Been meaning to go here a while but the long wait always kept me away until a day we were able to get here a little earlier than usual (& hence not wait too long for a table). The food is EXCELLENT, & what a plentiful selection they offer! The chicken & ribs were well flavored & tender, & the sides were delicious. The brisket was good but a bit dry. The combo plates are a great choice if you wanna sample a bunch of their stuff. So it you love bbq & don?t mind waiting a bit for a table, you have to check this place out! Pros: Chicken & ribs, great sides, lots of space, wide selection Cons: Out-of-the-way locale, wait times, dry brisket more

Overated! 3/16/2008

The restaurant itself is nice inside very western looking and big seating area. Their service was bad! They took a long time bringing out our appetizers. The fried green tomatoes were very good. I had the ribs and they were spicy with too much pepper. I had a drink called the ""donkey punch""and it was horrible and way too strong! The sides were nasty! I will not be going there again. Pros: Good appetizers Cons: horrible food, limited drink menu more

What about the sausage? 3/15/2008

Among all this talk of ribs and pulled pork, one of Dinosaur's best meats has been neglected. When I go to Dinosaur, I head straight for the Ode to Elgin (ribs, brisket, and Elgin sausage). I grew up in San Antonio and discovering my favorite sausage in Harlem was like going home. I also like the brisket, and the ribs are decent, but the sausage is what I go for --and definitely ask for the sauce on the side. I have never had an issue with the service, although I usually get it to go as I live in Harlem, and don't love to wait an hour in line with my kids. more

Very decent, but better than most NYQ 1/10/2008

Dino has built its reputation by feeding Western NYers consistently good cue in a fun atmosphere. The ribs were touch fatty, but not overly so. The chicken was VERY good- and I am not a chicken guy. The brisket was ok and I just can't understand why people insist on bringing TX onto good KC cue. The pulled pork was not good, the taste was fine and the smoking was nice, but the pulling left a lot to be desired. Yankees should just stick to ribs, steaks and chicken, as I haven't been to one NYCue house that can pull pork the way they do down south- a pity.\r \r The sides were nothing to write home about and considering the supposed excellence of cue, there were no collard greens or okra. \r \r The place pulls a crowd and clearly has a stong following. Its better than Blue Smoke or any other cue shack in the city, but that is not saying much. Funny, we can get the best of almost everything in NYC, but something so simple as a good pulled pork sandwich is not one of them. Cons: location, service more

RIBfreakinTASTIC 1/6/2008

Went for my bday with 15 people. knew the place is busy so did reservations (great service over phone to coordinate) wiated less then 15 minutes once whole party arrived. Waitress was fun and handled the large group fantastically. Drinks are perfectly made, bartenders are fun and attentive. Once the food was served, all you could hear was groans of satisfaction from all sides of the table. Best food, great drinks, fun music, great atmosphere and relaxed service all for a fairly low price. Not only will I be going back but pretty much everyone who came is planning another trip back. Make reservations if you are going on weekend, trust me it is worth the wait even if u have to. Pros: Absolutely everything once you step inside Cons: Parking can be tricky more

OMG SOOOOOO GOOD 10/23/2007

So FREAKIN good, HUGE portions and reasonable prices, great customer service also..... really nothing bad I think :) enjoy! more

SO SO GOOD! Quite reasonable, wait staff was so nice! 10/21/2007

I LOVED THIS PLACE! I am very picky about my reviews and RARELY give 5 stars, but this place deserves it! It was so yummy and our host and waitress were so nice! Pros: EVERYTHING Cons: NOTHING more

Great stuff! 10/6/2007

Hubby and I went with a group of friends early Sat when it opened for lunch. No reservations needed. It's a much shorter walk from the subway than I thought. We had the deviled eggs for appetizers, which were good, but really salty. We got the traditional sampler (pork ribs, brisket, and chicken), the extreme sampler (the same, but bigger proportions), and the smallest order of the ribs. The extreme sampler was actually enough for three people to share. As for the sides, the salty potatoes were a crowd pleaser and so was the creole potato salad. The veggies for the day, okra and stewed tomatoes, we could've done without. The cornbread got mixed reviews. We really liked the garlic chipotle sauce and the regular non-spicy barbecue sauce. Out of the sampler, I loved the briskets. My husband loved his ribs. We've been to Blue Smoke and this place seems to have better ribs. We'll definitely be back for more. Oh yeah, check out the ""visual explosion"" in the bathrooms. Pros: Great cue, cool vibe- where's the sawdust? Cons: Some of the sides were a miss more

delightful experience all around 10/3/2007

just a quick note about what a wonderful place this is! I went with a group of 17 co-workers on a tuesday night with a reservation for 7:30. we walked in at 7:25 and they sat us immediately and were nothing but friendly and eager to please. We got wings and fried green tomatoes for the table, and then 17 different dishes, all of which came promptly. everyone loved the food, and i can't say enough about the service. We left elated, and with full bellies and will definitely be back:) Thanks for such a great experience! Pros: food, service, price Cons: out of the way location more

Clearly their specialty isn't ribs. 9/19/2007

Upon hearing a rave review of Dinosaur from the food network my friend and I decided to give them a try. When we arrived we were told the wait would be about 30 minutes but to our surprise they called us within 5. Cool! Though seating was tight we were still excited about the place. We both ordered ribs, and we were both disappointed. Though the ribs were succulent, they were also flavorless (I thought they smoked they?re ribs?). I?ve never had fatty ribs before; it was weird scrapping the fat off the meat. Thinking the sauce would add flavor to the meat it still left much to be desired, it was runny and did not live up to expectations. We were so disappointed we kicked ourselves for driving way pass Virgil?s. I will say their bar drinks are well made as well as their mac n cheese, but then again who goes to a BBQ place for the side dishes? Pros: Side dishes and bar/mixed drinks. Cons: Ribs and tight seating. more

local bar scene meets restaurant meets new york 8/19/2007

I love this place, everytime i go i have a great time and love the atmosphere. Dont expect to have a romantic evening here. This place is to have drinks and good food while you hang out with your friends having any type of convo. the staff treats you like you are a friend and will give you honest opinions and preferences on food and drinks. Everyone is genuine and remembers you. I am greeted by name. First time goers are treated likewise and from my experience are always invited back. The bar is great and the staff behind it are the coolest. Pros: staff really cares and i never feeled pressured Cons: i have found none thus far more

the worst restaurant experience i've had in nyc 8/15/2007

After a nice meal, of multiple drinks each, appetizers, entrees, and desert, the manager came up to our table and said ""we have this table reserved for another party in 4 minutes."" He then proceeded to stand and watch us until we got up and left. Though he could have nicely asked us to leave, or mentioned that he really needed the table, or thanked us for our patronage, he chose instead to treat us as though we were second class. \r \r We were not rude, we had more than purchased enough food/drinks, and other tables in the area had been sitting for longer than us. This was the worst I have ever been treated at a restaurant in NYC. I will not return, nor will I recommend it to any of my friends. more
