I took my car to Derek's because it's close to my house, and on the bus route to my office. I'll gladly forego the convenience next time. The job was only 3/4 done -- they didn'...

Editorial review from Citysearch 6/28/2013

Derek's team dented, chipped and scratched a pristine classic car I own. Upon my discovery of the damage I had already paid for the detailing (I had brought a total of 4 cars through in a couple of days) but as I was waiting around for them to respond I realized that the car was not even cleaned. There was thick dirt and debris along the entire back passenger area, the cargo area, the doors and the dash. They took it back into the bay and wiped it with a wet rag and told me I had received the service and refused to refund the detailing cost, adding insult to the injury of my once perfect American Classic. As it stands they are attempting to control the repair of my car, saying they deal exclusively through only one body shop. I got an estimate there and they then attempted to schedule my repair work. I'm sorry, but Derek's does not schedule my life nor do they have the right to dictate where I get the work done. I have 3 car shows scheduled for the car to be entered into this summer and will bentravelling besides that, I am a very busy person. At this time, at their refusal to pay me for the repair, I have filed in small claims court for the damages and for the time it has taken me to get this matter dealt with. They admitted the damage was done in their shop and the intake slip shows there was no damage to the body upon drop off of the vehicle into their care.\r \r It's also very worth mentioning that I sincerely doubt any of my 4 cars were hand waxed, there was spare change missing from the vehicles and gas was siphoned from 3 of the 4 tanks. If you care about your car at all I would avoid this body shop like the plague. more

Derek's Issaquah Transformed My Car 1/3/2012

We purchased two Groupons and then kind of forgot about them. Got a notice that they would expire soon so we made a call to the Issaquah facility and they scheduled both cars right away, even though it was during the week of Christmas and New Years. We had seen some recent reviews on this site so we were somewhat reluctant to take the cars in, but boy, are we glad we did!! Both cars came back looking brand-spankin' new, inside AND out. I had forgotten to ask them to clean the inside of a compartment in the tailgate area where something was spilled (but unnoticable unless you opened up the compartment). I was pleasantly surprised when I got back home to find that they had done a very good job cleaning out that tough area. So the good news is, Derek's transformed my dull, grimy, 7-year old, mom-mobile into a sparkly, flashy SUV. The bad news is, now my hubby's convinced we should keep it even longer (haha). I will recommend Derek's Issaquah to coworkers and friends. Thanks for a thorough cleaning job!!! Double thumbs up. more

Terrible and expensive service 10/10/2011

What a terrible service! They don't even know how to open a glove box compartment. If you want to see managers shouting at employees, services that you ordered not executed, but being charged, then this is the place to go. Seriously. I regret seeing their advertisement on groupon. They charge an exorbitant price for such a poor job. I got my car hand washed at Pro-Club for less than 40 bucks and they did a much better service. more

Want a chance for MOLD? Then come here! 5/26/2011

This place is HORRIBLE! Read all the reviews before coming here and come at your OWN RISK! I got a deal off livingsocial and decided to give it a try. The detail was advertised to last 1.5 hours. I dropped my car off at 3 PM and didn't get it back to 6 PM. When I did get it back, the seats were all wet and they gave me a sheet of paper to sit on to drive home. Got home, opened the trunk to find all my mats inside DRIPPING WET!! In addition some textbooks inside (worth $100 each) were water damaged from the mats. I called the place back immediately, and took it back in. They essentially acknowledged the fact that they did a shitty job, took it back to dry, and made me wait another 45 minutes before anything was done. Yes, it was not dripping wet anymore, but 2 days later, and my car is STILL wet, and now in addition to a poor job done, I have to worry about MOLD and my health due to it. They also don't care for your property. I found my pair of prescription sunglasses in one of the compartments speckled with the fluids they used to clean the car. I REPEAT. THIS PLACE IS HORRIBLE! DO NOT COME HERE OR YOU'LL BE SORRY!!! more

I certainly didn't expect THIS! 5/15/2011

I've always detailed my own car, yet when Groupon came out with a $200 credit at Derek's, I was giddy in thinking of the 4 or 5 hours I would save by having someone else take care of the nitty gritty. I have a Lexus GX470 SUV, kids and dogs. Those of you who can relate, know how grungy the inside and outside can become. Yuck! The detail: MAIN areas clean, well done. Edges, corners, crevices (on the seats for the seat belt buckles, for example) not good. My car has a musty odor from the shampooing...it's been a week of trying to air it out and that hasn't worked. You know it's bad when the kids get into the car and complain, even after sweaty soccer workouts. What I didn't expect: WHOEVER DETAILED THE INSIDE OF MY CAR TOOK THE ITEMS I FORGOT TO REMOVE FROM THE INSIDE OF MY DOOR CUBBIES AND PLACED THEM ON THE ROOF OF MY CAR. They did not put them back. GOODBYE, BLACK LEATHER COACH CD HOLDER FULL OF CD'S. GOODBYE GARAGE DOOR OPENER. GOODBYE 3RD ROW LEXUS REMOTE. I discovered this upon entering the freeway after leaving Derek's. To my horror, these items clattered on my roof, then flew off the back of my car onto I90 (Thank God they did not hit any other cars and cause additional damage), and *poof*, just like that, valuable items were run over, smashed and ruined. And I couldn't do anything about it! In all, I lost money. Even with the Groupon. More importantly, others' safety were compromised. I called Derek's immediately upon returning home, spoke with the same person who checked my car in and out, and received the following: ""Oh gee, those guys! I'll go talk to them."". It has been one week since the detail was completed and still, no response from Derek's. To say I'm not returning is an understatement. Irresponsible, sloppy, uncaring and unprofessional is my description of Derek's Auto Detail. They blew it big time. more

Highly recommended 4/5/2011

I purchased a Groupon so I knew the location would be very busy and didn't have high expectations on the level of service. They did a great job on my car. To my delight when I went to pick up my car, there on the seat of my car was something valuable that I thought I had lost six months before. The item was both valuable and sentimental, and it goes to show you how honest they are. In my mind there is no better recommendation than that. I hope sharing that with you helps you to decide to try Derek's. more

Perhaps my car was treated better :) 3/23/2011

I had such a delightful experience here! I was treated exceptionally well and so was my car, perhaps my car was treated better :) more

my car molded 2/21/2011

I actually got a good deal with my coupon. And the car was pretty clean when they were done and I was satisfied with that part.\r \r However it wasn't fully dry when I drove it home which I figured would be fine. This is the first time I've ever gotten a car detailed. It was the winter time and when I came home I parked my car in the garage and didn't touch it for about a week and a half. It was still damp! and guess what it smelled like?! Yep, mold. I sold it that way and it was emberressing. I pretended like I didn't smell anything when I was showing it to the guy. I actually had to buy some carpet powder and run the car outside for hours and I brought up the matts to sit in front of my heater all night. I think they should have gave me a warning or something, right? more

SLOPPY WORK!!! CRAPPIEST DETAIL EVER!!! 2/20/2011

A car detail is a big investment of time and money, but my car needed it, so when I saw the Living Social deal, I splurged. I upgraded and paid extra to get the full detail, interior and exterior, which would normally be about $250, I guess; with the LS deal I paid $200 total.\r The high school kids with a car wash fundraiser would have done a better job. All my windows were totally streaky to the point that when the sun was out the next day, I couldn't even see through them. Parts of the windows had huge spots that had been missed. Dashboard display panel was also totally streaky, like they took a dirty rag and just rubbed it around. Rear console was completely missed, so I still have my daughter's juice and cracker mix in the cup holders back there. Awesome. Also missed were the rear view mirror and the panoramic glass sunroof, not even touched. There were white spots of (Armorall?) splashed all over my side mirrors, and spots of it all over my interior windshield. There were literally puddles of cleaner inside my front console. Floor mats were tossed in the rear hatch completely soaked. Their exterior detail promised to buff out scratches; I have some small scuffs on my rear bumper that could be EASILY buffed out, and those were ignored.\r Additionally, my Starbucks gift card and some cd's mysteriously vanished. Even awesomer.\r It's like they sold so many Living Social deals that they just want to get hurry up and get everyone in, rather than doing a great job and attracting repeat business. Maybe that's why they run deals so often?\r So I wrote them an email, still waiting to hear back. I'll keep you posted on what their response is, but if it means I'm going to have to take the time to go back there while they re-do what they effed up, forget it, I'm too busy. I'll do it myself. Awesomest of all. more

Awesome Work 8/25/2010

I had some major surface damage to my car caused by a friend who got a bunch of paint overspray onto the car and then tried to clean it off with a household cleaner with a scrub pad. I wasn't sure if it could be detailed out or if it would have to be completely repainted. Alex assured me he could handle it and had a great attitude, working from open to close without even breaking for lunch to make sure it got completed in one day. The car turned out great and I saved hundreds over taking it elsewhere. Thanks guys! more

Great job! 8/1/2010

I scratched up my new car pretty badly having gone into the back roads of an unmarked indian reservation (thanks GPS). The guys at Derek's Auto Detail gave me a very detailed explanation of what was required and appeared to be very honest about what types of polishing would and wouldn't work to get the scratches out. The estimate they gave me was very reasonable and better than all the other ones I had gotten. They finished an hour earlier than they originally told me and they did a fantastic job! Car looks like I just rolled it out of the dealers lot! You can tell they have a great sense of pride and enthusiasm in doing a good job. I never write reviews and this one was worth writing about! Pros: Excellent work more

First detailing experience was a postiive 5/30/2010

I called to make an appointment the day before my anniversary and they did a great job. I have a Honda Civic (definitely not fancy) but they were pretty awesome. They sit in the car and go through the details of what you want as well as their opinion. Then we went back to the office and we talked price (haggled in my case, but surprisingly they were pretty open to it and accommodating). I waited about two hours, but my car had more dog fur than my two medium sized dogs and my carpets might have had more coffee than I drank in a month, so I think the time was fairly decent. When they were done, the owner reviewed the work with me as well as with the person who detailed the car. It was the cleanest I've ever seen my little Honda. The owner even pointed out spots I didn't see and asked the detailer to try and clean out. The only thing I didn't like was the wet towels left in my drunk and my front mats have some gouges in there (I waited to post to see if they went away...but I think they're pretty much permanent gouges). My passenger and driver's mirror didn't look like they had been cleaned. However, they did a great job otherwise. Even my gas tank door was spic and span (that door looked as black and the Duwamish River, so I was impressed they took the time to do that). When we were done, we went went into pay and I used my credit card. I hadn't realized you have to tell them beforehand you want to include tip when you pay with credit, so there was no spot to put it. I was caught off guard, but the owner said not to worry about it as long as I came back (pretty damn nice if I do say so!) Overall, I will probably go back. The owner was giving me tips if ever wanted to sell my car, so I thought that was pretty cool too. Pros: clean car (detailed) more

Great place for detailing your car but can be improved 3/13/2010

Last week, I bought a used Benz. There are some light scratches on the hood and near by the door. I did some research for the best place for detailing my car and to remove those scratches. After some research, I decided to use Derek's detail to do the job. I call them on Friday and tell them to quote me the price the for full details (exterior + interior), clean up the engine and remove light scratches on my car. I talked to a guy named Alex and he quote me $250 at first. I told him it's $189 on the website plus you can get $15 discount if you bring the print-out from their website. He told me since my car have scratches, he has to charge extra since more work required for removing scratches (wet sand, etc.) but since I'm a new customer and want me to try their service, he reduced the price to $200 and I agreed. I made an appointment for the next day which is the day I wrote this review. I bring my car to them the following day, show them where are the scratches and then drop off the key. Few hours later, I got a call from them telling me they have to charge me $50 extra because they require more works and have to wet sand my car to remove the scratches basically what he told me the day before. After few minutes talking and seems that I have no choice, I reluctantly agreed. That will bring the price for the job back to $250 again. I got another phone call few hours later and told me the car is ready. I must say they did a REALLY GOOD job removing those scratches! I'm really impressed. I barely can see it if I don't look at it closely. The car looks shining, interior looks sparkling and they dress the tires pretty good. Overall, I'm really happy with the job. So why I only gave them 4 stars? - They jack up the price upon agreed when the car is in their possession (less bargaining power?) - They promised to clean up the engine, but they simply clean up the debris around the edge rails. I think the least they should do is pressure-washed the engine. - The center console is still dirty. Although this is not a big deal since I can just wipe it clean, I just cannot believe they overlooked this. - They didn't clean the rims thoroughly, I can still see some oils around the lug nuts area. I expect it to be cleaner from a details shop with $250 job. At best, the rims looks like when you go to drive-through touchless car wash and get the gold wash package. I hope this review can be helpful to potential customers and to improve their service :) Pros: Remove scratch mark Cons: Price change upon agreed more

Greatest Service Ever! 2/5/2009

After a longer absence than I'd care to admit to, I brought my embattled car to Derek's (having heard of their reputation), and the manager (I believe his name is Matt - sorry if I am mistaken :) worked on it personally for 2.5 hours, along with another employee. Although I came in for a simple wash and vacuum, the state of my car required much more work, and this work was done diligently, carefully, and as fast as was humanly possible (they even worked beyond opening hours - and on a Saturday evening!). I could have been charged twice as much as I'd paid, and I'd still be more than happy with the quality of service I got. I am coming back as soon as I dirty up my car sufficiently. more

BEST DETAIL ON AURORA AVE! 8/27/2008

I am a returning customer, and often bring my cars in to get some special attention. They really know how to make a sad dirty car new and happy. It was the BAD Derek for me 8/7/2008

I just bought a used car in good shape from a private party and since I'd been looking at excellently detailed used cars on the lots, I decided a good detail would make my bargain look great. I read the reviews and saw the Jekyll/Hyde quality of Derek's but since it was near and the vast preponderance of reviews were positive, I took it in. I got a quote for their #9 wash/polish/wax that was a little less than on their website and was asked to bring it in the next morning. I dropped it off at 8AM. When I stopped by the shop at 5, the detailer had evidently been in the middle of buffing when he was called to take care of a customer. He said it would be ready in half an hour but I told him not to hurry, I was more interested in a good job than one that only took 8 1/2 hours. When I went back to pick the car up about 5:45, I had to ask the detailer to finish wiping off streaks of dried wax. He said his eyes weren't so good so I showed him were the streaks were. Looking over the work carefully when I got home I noticed one little chip out of the hood down to metal, another chip at the top of the hatchback window, and a couple of gray streaks on the bumper and mirror where the paint had evidently been worn away by their buffing. The dirt on the paint on the inside of the doors hadn't been touched, nor had that on the strips under the doors. There were specks of dried wax on most of the window trims and a small areas that hadn't been touched. The promised interior vacuum had been cursory at best. It took me another hour to put things to right, not counting the new touch-ups that will have to be done. So, it's a good thing I got the paint the detailer asked me to buy so he could touch up a couple of scrapes he never got to. For nearly $200, this is not at all the type of detailing anyone should expect. Pros: Close to home Cons: Most everything else more
