Dental Salon

I have not had a good experience with this place of business; and I do mean place of BUSINESS. My original appointment for a cleaning was in mid-July. They took ex-rays and charged me more than I've ever had to pay at other places, but they didn't clean my teeth, as scheduled (they also didn't give me a goody bag!). They rescheduled me for a deep-scale cleaning which required a $100 nonrefundable deposit. I arrived for my appointment in August, only to be told that it was cancelled! That was surprising, considering the fact that I had spoken to one of their receptionists about 30 minutes prior to my appointment. Had I not shown up, they would have kept my $100 deposit, but they can cancel without penalty! I was rescheduled for September, but when I got there they allegedly had no record of my $100 deposit. It's a good thing that the receptionist had given me a print-out when I had come in for the August appointment that they canceled? Wrong! The receptionist said that wasn't a receipt! Hmmmm. Well, after a long conversation with this receptionist and another, logic prevailed, the matter was straightened out, and I paid my large portion for the current appointment and was finally taken to the back and had my teeth on the left side of my mouth cleaned. Concerning having the teeth on the right side of my mouth cleaned, I was told that I couldn't have them cleaned until Nov. 2! That was a long time to wait, but I took the appointment, informing the receptionist that it had to be after work. She scheduled an appointment for 6 P.M. and said she would call if anything opened up before then. I paid them another $100 deposit for my Nov. appointment. Well, I received a call this week saying that the periodontist was not taking anymore appointments after 5 P.M. that day; mine was for 6. Hmmm. They did offer to let me TAKE OFF WORK and come in during the day. Wow! They advertise that they're open 7 days a week and have late office hours, but not in my case. Today they told me that if I didn't want the early appointment on Nov. 2, I'd have to wait until Nov. 30! Wow, from July to Nov. 30, just to get my teeth cleaned? She said that they only have one periodontist. That's strange because I saw a different one for a $25 consultation back in July. Hmmmm. All about the business, instead of being about giving good service! That's actually bad for the business, but considering the prices they charge, I guess they can afford to lose some customers! more

I was going to set an appointment here, but I discovered there are at least two ongoing malpractice lawsuits against these guys. Who knows how many have been settled or finished.....Watch out! more

I had my third visit at Dental Salon. As expected, everything went well. Dr. Sheffield was as patient as she has always been and explained to me as the procedure went along. Today we worked on one of my most sensitive teeth. The local anesthesia worked quickly and effectively so my anxiety and fear for pain reduced tremendously. Dr. Sheffield and her assistant, George, were very attentive and sensitive to my needs, so I felt less nervous and less discomfort. This is another successful and almost painless experience I had at Dental Salon :) more

Since I have started my care with Dr. Sheffield and Dental Salon several months ago, I have felt nothing but ease and comfort in the hands of Dental Salon. For years I would avoid going in for a simple cleaning as my fears of dental work would always get the best of me. I have now spent more time in your dental office than I have in my entire life and I no longer dread my appointments or find an excuse to take precedence. Dr. Sheffield and your staff are what I recommend to all who fear the unknown of dentistry. Thank you for having them all on your team. more

I had high hopes for my visit to Dental Salon. The reviews were solid, office hours excellent, and the support staff very nice. I made an appointment because I chipped a molar eating popcorn and wanted to get established with a nearby dentist versus continuing to travel over an hour to see my usual dentist in the suburbs. \r \r However before I even saw a dentist, an assistant looked at the x-rays taken and informed me I needed 3 root canals, showed me a video, discussed how much it would cost and my insurance/payment options. This sort of news should have come from the dentist AFTER he personally examined and talked to me. Root canals are serious business and the dentist was rather dismissive when I asked alot of questions about this recommendation.\r \r I think for a general cleaning, whitening or simple cavity filling this practice would be fine, but I personally did not feel comfortable moving forward. I am now going to make an appointment with my previous dentist. Even if she agrees that I need 3 root canals, which would be surprising since I go for regular exams/cleanings and have no pain, I know she will patiently spend time discussing what she sees and thinks and do more diagnostics beyond an x-ray. more

Dr. Wise said they would simply hold my credit card information until my Blue Cross plan could be confirmed (it was Sunday). My card was billed for nearly $1,000, meantime the insurance verified and they refused to reverse the charge. The receptionist said it was office policy to wait for the money from the insurance before releasing the charge - about one month. Sorry, folks, Dr. Wise was great, but I have to pay interest on that charge. more

The Dental Salon has completely changed my outlook on going to the dentist. Every since I was a child my worst nightmare each year was having to go to the dentist. \r \r After moving to Chicago last year I was fortunate enought to find The Dental Salon and give it a try. From the moment I walked into this place I was at ease and not scared at all. The staff was very warm and welcoming, the office is beautiful, and I felt more like I was in a spa then I did a dentist. \r \r Dr. Sheffield was the dentist that saw me and she was AWESOME!!! Very kind and gentle with everything and explained each procedure in depth before performing them.\r \r I can truly say ""I LOVE THE DENTAL SALON"" and have reccomended them to all of my friends. Don't let the pictures and decor of this place fool you! Their dentistry skill is questionable, and they are dishonest with their pricing to try to get you in for more appointments. \r \r They said I needed 7 fillings, but to be cautious, I divided it into 2 appointments, since I didn't feel any discomfort from my teeth. I went in for 3 fillings on one side of my mouth, and the dentist drilled too deeply, exposing the nerve endings too close to the surface, and now I can't chew most foods on that side of my mouth anymore, so I have to use the other side of my mouth. And the teeth they said needed filling are still fine. Makes me question how serious my condition was. I've now hired a lawyer.\r \r In addition, they gave me the wrong price for the procedure. They said my insurance company would not cover this procedure, which I knew anyway so I paid it with my credit card. Only to have them send me another bill 3 months later that is 3 times the amount I've already paid saying they sent this amount to my insurance company and got rejected. This is dishonest pricing tactic on their part. They told me I was paying for my service, then tried to scam more money from my insurance company without telling me. There is nothing but wonderful things that I have to say about Dental Salon. I haven't been to a dentist in 6 years. Dr Derakhshan and her team made me feel compfortable and at ease. The systems that Dental Salon has are UNBELIEVEABLE! I was able to SEE everything that was wrong with my teetha nd all the options and pricing right at my finger tips! After I was shown what needed to be done. They asked if I wanted to get started! REALLY?! How great to just jump right in like that!!! Not only the awesome service, but the beautiful building itself! I love the clean modern look. Have you ever been to a dentist that is locaed in their home.... I mean EWW! That's just not the case at Dental Salon. And the view! Forget about it! I had had trouble finding a dentist that was both recommended by someone I knew and that took my company's insurance. I had a good experience with this place. I was very easily able to work in an appointment around work too! Pros: wonderful staff, minimal waiting Cons: nothing more

I have been avoiding the dentist because of a bad experience and could not find one that I liked. A co-worker told me about Dental Salon. I booked an appointment and I absolutely LOVED my experience. Dr. Trupti Desai is fantastic. She walked me through the whole process. Favi, the hygienist, was gentle with the cleaning. When I came home, I could not stop raving how wonderful this experience was. I have nothing but great things to say about Dental Salon!\r \r I made the switch to the Dental Salon office in October of '09 through a co-workers recommendation and I am so thankful that I did. Thier modern, friendly office is on the cutting edge of technology and is in a great location for me as a Lakeview resident. As someone who has experienced some dental issues in the past, it is always important to me that I find a dentist that I am comfortable with, and who I know I can trust to be honest and professional. I definitely have found that with Dr. Scott Overhouser. Dr. Scott has an excellent bed-side manner and has consistently talked me through the dental work that I have needed, making sure that I understand what needs to be done. Having now completed 2 crowns with Dr. Scott, his excellent care and communication throughout have made the procedures as painless as possible, and given me the peace of mind that is hard to find when it comes to dental issues.\r \r Historically, I've always been squeamish with dentists, but Dr. Scott and the Dental Salon team have done a great job with easing any concerns, and are consistently making sure that I am as comfortable as possible. Patient care is a top priority to this office and it definitely shows. I am not a fan of dentists, so every few years after not seeing a dentist I feel guilty and try and find one that is sensitive to my less-than-enthuastic feeling but still does a good job. In the past, I avoided dentists simply because I found the experience to be acutely uncomfortable. Not having any background in dentistry, it seemed that no previous dentist was ever willing to spend the time to answer my questions or explain procedures properly. A friend recommended Dental Salon. My appointment was with Dr. Sheffield and went really well, despite learning of some cavities that needed attention. I find Dr. Sheffield to be such a superb dentist simply because of her willingness to go over all of my questions (including laying out ALL the costs of procedures BEFORE doing any work) and concerns, explaining the pros and cons of treatment options, and providing information in very clear and concise language. She even took time to review a treatment option (for a mouth guard) with me a second time over the phone rather than just passing on information through another person, which left me feeling that I can truly make an informed decision regarding my treatment options. Besides answering my endless questions, Dr. Shffield, as well as the hygienist, Jeremy, were really gentle, yet thorough, throughout the entire x-ray, dental cleaning, and cavity filling process, something I will be infinitely grateful for. Overall, Dental Salon is a comfortable, well organized, very professional dental office and I totally recommend that anyone who is anxious about seeing a dentist check them out. Theresa, the dentist's assistant, was awesome! She had such a pleasant personality, and really made me comfortable. She was extremely informative about my condition and the course of treatment. Dental salon is a dental experience like none other- i actually look forward to my appointments. I have had interactions with several doctors and hygienists and they have all been fantastic- efficient, professional and friendly. My sons and I had our 1st dental visit at the Dental Salon on Sunday. The office is in a nice upscale, CLEAN, BRIGHT, AIRY space. Excellent hours. I was so happy to find there is parking available in the building. The staff members were really nice and friendly. Dr. Scott Overholser and his assistant made me feel really at ease. They answered all my dental questions. My boys really liked Dr. Sara Sheffield. Dr. Sheffield sat with us and discussed the boy’s dental care. I’m looking forward to returning for my follow-up treatments. It took me 18 months to find a dental provider who accepts my insurance plan, yet meets my high standards.
