De Lorenzo's Tomato Pies

The pizza is burnt.. Yep! That's thier trademark. I don't mean just over done, I mean black like charcoal. I asked that my tomato pie be lightly cooked, but no freaking way! It was still burnt. I don't understand all these retards that rant and rave about this place. Who the hell wants to eat charcol? The service sucked too. Zero regard to universal precautions. Saw the waiter wipe his nose before serving us, etc. Cons: Sucked big time more

I ate there last night, and I will say the tomato pie was excellent, however; I will not patronize this establishment again. The staff was unfriendly; they had an open table that could accommodate six people but refused to seat 4 people at it and made everyone wait 15 minutes until a four top opened up. There was not a single smile or thank you from any of the staff. It looked like a funeral in this place. I am not sure what the deal is with this place but one thing is for sure, money can?t buy you happiness. If you have to eat their pie, get it to go. If you like fat crust pizza- skip this place. However, if you by any chance happen to love thin crust or at least willing to try- go for the D'Lorenzo's pizza. I been there at Hamilton Ave place, which is supposedly much better that the Hudson St place. Anyway, you can try both- I bet you will not be disappointed. Whenever I visit this place, I only order simple cheese pizza since it has most kick. more

You would have to go to a gourmet restaurant like Osteria on North Broad in Philadelphia to get anything close. Anyone who says different has no appreciation for good food. Who the heck cares if the pizza is not perfectly round. When these guys burn the crust, it does not affect the flavor at all-- that is part of the charm. Try the garlic and the meatball pies. more

I always get mine with Mushrooms, Onions and Sweet Peppers!! The sweet peppers are the secret ingredient to a great pizza and very hard to find at other pizza places. Give it a try. Bon Apetit! Pros: Great Pizza, Plenty of Parking, Excellent Value more

De Lorenzo's recently opened a second location in Robbinsville, NJ. Check out their website (delorenzostomatopies) for further information. I've been frequenting their Hudson St. locale for 30 years and their pie is the best. Just tried their new location (Which just opened). The pie is awesome! Same wonderful taste and ingredients...but with more amenities. New at this location are bathrooms, menus, salad, more pie ovens, and they accept credit cards (Except Discover). The atomosphere is wonderful with dark cherry wood tables and cabinets, large comfortable booths that will easily hold six, and nostalgic black and white photos on the walls of the original De Lorenzo's and family. Get there early (like 15 minutes BEFORE they open) or you'll be waiting for an hour. But the wait is so worth it! Most importantly the pie at this new location tastes just the same as the Hudson location. Same ingredients, same juicy delicious tomatoes and crisp crust. It is worth all the hype people give it. Treat yourself to the best pie you will ever eat...you will be hooked forever. more

I have to admit ive been reading reviews for a couple of weeks and they have all been amazing to say the least. So today i finally found time with my schedule to make a trip i live in manalapan on rt 33 so it was about a half an hour trip for me not bad but when i got there i have to admit i wasnt all that wowed and im not saying it was bad it was good but not amazing not compared to Totonnos or grimaldis in brooklyn or lombardis in manhattan maybe it was the lack of a real coal burning oven or maybe it was because the crust was just too burnt to the point where it was black or maybe it was that the crust was just to thin i got a large sausage and a small clam with tomato first of all the sausage pie was cut in very weird shapes not the usual 8 slice setup but more of like strips with some resembling pizza slices and others just long thin rectangulars i dont know if this was an off night as i have read that the hudson location was known for being rather inconsistent but i guess will have to give it another try and also try the hamilton location for some comparison Pros: parking pizza was good Cons: service ambience no restroom pizza shaped weird hard to share more

Been going to DeLorenzos for 55 years and nothings changed except the family members running the place. I've traveled all over the states and made it a point to eat some pie where ever I've been ,(in trenton we call pizza,tomato pie it has nothing to do with not having cheese.after all pizza is pie in italian so what you order a pie pie). \r like so many before me attested the place is unique( soup nazish owners no john long waits same decore for 55 years ) and so is the pie. it is simply the best you will ever eat thin crust light as a feather and crispy ,with sweet tomato sauce as the catalist (with just a hint of small tomato chunks). the cheese is not heavey and stringy (like you see on so many pies) and no matter the quality toping be it garlic, sausage, peperoni, sweet peppers etc. the various tastes come through like a symphony for the mouth forgetaboutit !! \r Hey and the DeLorenzon on Hamilton ave. a couple of blocks away will be the second best pie you will ever eat (you gotto walk through their kitchen to use bathroom but they have one) and friendlier owners.\r \r If you love tomato pie (pizza) you have no choice you must try either (preferably both)Delorenzos before you die or you will spend eternity in pergatory eating pizza hut cardboard. \r \r \r \r \r Pros: the pie stupid Cons: everything else, hey you don't go there to make friends more

If you're looking for pizza, don't come to Delorenzo's, but if you're looking for the best TOMATO PIE in NJ rush right in. The place is small, but that is just the charm of a row home turned restaurant. Just stoped by after hearing about it and found the greatest pizza in the world. We were in town for business. I can agree that its not in the best part of town however they have a police officer that works there. Not only was the cop friendy but while waiting we got a history lesson about the neighborhood. The place is small and the wait staff is friendly. They do however treat the regulars better then the non regulars. No bathroom can be a problem. Dont worry about the parking the officer walks you to you car. I liked the plain. When ordering get an extra to go! Pros: Great pizza, safe Cons: No Bathroom, samll long wait more

I read the Citysearch reviews and drove all the way to the seedy side of town that De Lorenzo's is in. Crisp crust... yes, tasty... no. By the way, I actually liked the fact that the restaurant was a hole in the wall in a run-down part of town. That gave it some character. But I could make a better pizza by pouring catsup over burnt toast. All that said, maybe you'll like it, a lot of people obviously did. Go to Conte's pizza in Princeton if you're not averse to spacious restaurants in safe neighborhoods with great pizza. more

I live in Trenton, there are several other places in Trenton I would get pizza from than DeLorenzo's. I love pizza and travel for it. Give me New York pizza, give me New Haven pizza, give me Philadelphia pizza, give me other places in New Jersey. I'll take the other Delorenzo's on Hamilton Ave., Massimo's on Hamilton Ave. Delorenzo's bottom comes out burnt and they don't care. You have a complaint? Forget it. Their pizza is nothing special. And they don't appreciate your business. Go to DeLorenzo's on Hamilton Ave., they dress in bowties, the place is clean, friendly, they thank you for your business but it's closed Sun & Mon, only open at lunch and then not agin until 4pm. I grew up and lived in Trenton for close to 25 years. There were two places to go for true tomatoe pies. You were either a De Lorenzo's fan (Hudson) or a Maruca fan (N. Olden Ave) Now that Maruca's has gone by the wayside, De Lorenzo's is ""THE"" place to go. I live in Texas now, and crave the Trenton Tomatoe Pie. I wish they would start a mail order service like the Philly Cheese Steaks. I'd buy one every week. Order the sausage (it's fresh crumbled sausage, not pre cooked sliced) Man I'm talking myself into a trip to Trenton. Pros: Taste, it's the best! Cons: Parking and no Bathrooms. Other than that! Sadly, I grew up in the NJ/NY area and never ate at DeLorenzo's until recently when visiting my mother in the hospital over there in Trenton (I live in WA now). It was a very difficult trip, but let me tell you- thank god for those amazing DeLorenzo's pies!!! OH MY GOD! They are absolutely perfect. We would buy a couple every night before going back to our hotel. The first time we ate both pizzas in the car while driving back to the hotel- and were finished by the time we got back! Without a doubt De lorenzo's Tomato pies is the best place in the country to get pure, honest pizza. NYC and Chicago are well known pizza towns but the secret is starting to come out that if you want pizza in it's purest and best form, Trenton N.J. is the place to go, and De Lorenzo's has the best pizza in the best pizza town in the country. I've had pizza at all the legendary pizzarias all over the place NY, Chicago, Boston Philadelphia, etc. and nothing compares with De Lorenzo's. If you have never been to De Lorenzo's you have no idea of what youre missing. The Tomato Pie is the champagne of the pizza world and nobody makes it as good as De Lorenzo's. more
