Perfect evening 12/18/2011

You ever stumble upon a very unlikely restaurant in a very unlikely location and decide to give it a shot? Well that's what happenned to my husband and I . We came into the North End of Boston which I guess is the Italian section. After walking down the main street which there had to be 60 Italian restaurants we looked at many trying to decide where we were going for dinner that evening. Not yet sure we decided to walk back to our hotel which was the fairmount hotel on Battery wharf and as we were walking we noticed a restaurant completely isolated from the rest of them right near our hotel. We looked at the menu outside and a lovely slide show high lighting some great looking dishes and also some celebrites such as Gordon Ramsay and my husband reconized Zdeno Chara who is the Captain of the Boston bruins. To make a long story short it was enough to let us call and make a reservation and we were glad we did. The restaurant was very quaint . We were seated in a half moon booth which was cozy and romantic. The host was very pleasant and made us feel at home immediately and the food was incredible. Our waiter was very attentive and the host who we later found out he was one of the owners gave us great service. The wine he recommended was very good and he matched it uop well wiith our dinners. Basically we found that hidden place off the main drag that once you find it it becomes a special place for you. Even though we are not from Boston we visit alot and believe me each trip we plan for Boston Davide will be a stop for us. Thank you for a special delicious evening. more

Nothing but high recommendation for Davide 12/12/2011

I have been to Davide several times and have to say everything I ever tried was great. The service is very attentive but not over baring . I have to say the Osso Bucco is the best in the city by far and I have had it in many places. The food is good the service is fun and you are never rushed so what else is there . Oh ya a full bar with great wines and my favorite a large selection of grappa more

North End's Best 12/8/2011

I joined City search to review Davide. I had such a great expierence here from the moment we sat down. The owner who is on the floor making sure everyone has a nice time is one of the funniest people I ever meet. This guy should be a comedian. He made us laugh all night. The staff was great also and the food was perfect. I had the osso bucco which is veal shanks with saffron rissotto and it has to be the best in Boston. My husband had the pappadella with short rib and it was great and I Guess it was shown to the chef by Gordon Ramsay himself. All in all a fun night. more

Great Italian Off the Beaten Path 7/5/2011

This evening was my third visit to Davide in Boston's North End, and I continue to be pleased. I originally tried Davide after their feature on Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares, and whether its his influence or not, this is a great Italian restaurant. The atmosphere is cozy and truly representative of a family dining experience. \r I highly recommend the Tre Colori salad, short rib pasta and lobster pasta - all great dishes - and that's coming from an Italian with fabulous cooks in the family. \r So venture off of the busy-tourist filled streets of the North End and enjoy a delicious, fresh meal. more

Hidden gem 4/23/2010

I never write reviews because I don't think my opinion matters that much because I read reviews to alot of places and the expierence usually is not even close to some of the reviews so until I go myself they are only words. But Davide is really a hidden gem. You won't stumble by it walking around the North End even though it's located a block from tourist trap Hanover st. Do yourself a favor and google map it. Once there you are going to be impressed . The food was very, very good especially the puff pastry filled with mushrooms,WOW!!! and the pasta is super good. I was told the fussilli are made by the owners mother and believe me I have never had anything like IT Waiters great and guess what Italian who all speak Italian not some young kid who isn't even old enough to drink wine so how is he going to recommend what I should be drinking hah? AND big private booths where I enjoyed dinner with my wife not some stranger two feet away at another table. Plenty of room at Davide. I wanted to do five stars but I believe you always have room for improvement even if I wouldn't have changed a thing for my night out. Thanks Davide. Will be back again and again Pros: private ,romantc and you can talk without sreaming, also spac Cons: No bar, just dinner but have full liquor more

ITALY COMES TO BOSTON 4/13/2010

I ate here last week and today I saw it on Buy with me which is one of those coupon deals and I jumped at the deal and it was a reminder to do a review on it on City search. I did one on yelp where I was surprised that they actually had negative reviews most last year so I'm not sure what happened or as we all know most people write bad reviews when they are mad and the people that enjoy themselves don't bother to write a review .Anyways my personal experience was great. My wife and I shared this mushroom stuffed pastry (something like that) in a marsala portebello sauce. My main course was the veal with tiremesu sause its not a dessert but tasted as good as dessert. Wine was great that my waiter recommended and the waiters are very professional and knowledgeable and actually Italian not some college kid that would just take my order. The owner was all over the dining room just checking on everyone's dinner. Nice to see instead of commercialized restaurants. This is family owned with elegance and professionalism. Great job Davide! You guys should be packed and I bet you would be if you were on the main drag so lucky are the people that find this hidden gem. Pros: Spacious ,private, romantic, and unbelievable service Cons: location hard to find. more

Did not honor gift certificate 8/10/2008

We had a gift card for $25 off that we had purchased specifically for this restaurant. Upon showing it to the waitress when we were seated, the manager came over and said he would not honor it unless we spent $70 (the gift certificate clearly says minimum purchase of $35).\r \r and to add insult to injury, the manager then proceeded to say things such as 'we've had other customers come and this has not been a problem,' as if it is our fault for not being happy that they were scamming us and committing a crime. They also said 'it's very easy to spend $70 here.' We only intended to order two entrees (~$25), meaning we wouldn't make the $70 mark.\r \r if my understanding of the law is correct, this constitutes fraud. you can understand we left feeling horrible horrible for having spent money for a gift certificate that the restaurant would not honor. \r \r Besides the gift certificate, we had to go searching throughout the restaurant to find someone to seat us. Cons: Scam more

A great dining experience 3/3/2008

We fully enjoyed having dinner with you. Thank you! Your sauces were excellent. Your website, by the way, was instrumental in choosing your restaurant. The pictures and the site itself are true to the meal: 100% top-class. Great job all the way around. We WILL be back. Pros: Great staff, great food Cons: None. more

Italian at its finest! 10/2/2007

Yesterday evening we had an opportunity on our vacation to enjoy a quaint and ""sinatra"" style Italian restaurant in the Italian section of downtown Boston called Davide's. The owner Frank greeted us at the door, with a smile and even though we were 30 minutes early, he seated us an shared a little bit about his restaurant and philosophy. Before we knew it we were feasting on Italian cousine, the best we've ever had. Our waiter, Tim, was congenial, friendly and full of information and guidance about the city. After our meal, I asked to meet the chefs, among them were the owner Frank and Wanda - it was a great experience and a dinner of a life time... \r \r Highly Recommended. Pros: Perfectly Italian everything more

The best in the North End 8/25/2007

The dinner at Davide was outstanding. Prompt seating, excellent service and outstanding food. The wine list was excellent and diverse. Serving my 16 guests for dinner was prompt. more

Fine dining? Please! Save your time and money! 8/13/2007

Where do I begin?? Upon arrival, we had to wait 10 minutes before anyone acknowledged our party. Then we were told to go next door to have a drink as we arrived 20 min. before our reservation. Funny because the place wasn't half full. Our table service was horrendous-we were told our appetizer and meal order had to go in at the same time and we couldn't get bread at the table until our order was placed. The food was ok-not great as the price and ratings suggested. Our waiter didn't have time to wait on us, he was more interested in impressing the table next to us filled with 21 year olds. It took 20 minutes once we got our check to waive anyone over to take our bill-thank goodness the busboy was on the job! Oh yeah, and check your car before you leave if you have valeted it-our brand new car was side swiped and the marks were obviously tried to be wiped off-they denied it of course. more

Where NOT to go 3/8/2007

We went to Davide for dinner based on its high ratings and great reviews, but the experience was beyond disappointing. It all started with the cold bread we were served(at first I thought it was probably because of the unusually cold weather) but that was just the beginning to many more disappointments to come. Our appetitzers(soup of the day and salads) were bland and unexciting. The lobster ravioli was so far off I wasn't sure what was stuffed inside the thick 4 pieces of dough. The stuffing was an orange looking whipped cream that had a seafood taste which could be lobster, or not. I've had lobster ravioli many times to know that it was plain rip off at $24 an order. To sum it all up, everything from the presentation to the tastes of the food was nothing to write home about. more

Fine dining at its best! Excellent service and food! 10/2/2006

I spent an unbelievable night there with my girlfriend and would suggest no better place to wine and dine a special someone. The beautiful dining room with high banquets can't be matched anywhere in the north end or even boston for that matter. Very intimate and friendly the service was unbelievable. The table side Caesar salad for two is AMAZING, they make it right there from scratch! does anyone even do that anymore? The wine list was exceptional. And the waiter was very knowledgable and you could tell he wanted us to have a great evening and wasn't trying to upsell or rush us. A MUST SEE to know how real fine dining is! Pros: FOOD especially the Fagottini (sp?) and all of their pastas! They're homade! Cons: little pricey but how can you put a price on the best date ever? more

FLORENCE,ITALY BROUGHT TO BOSTON 9/11/2006

MY WIFE AND I WENT TO DAVIDE'S ON A RECOMENDATION FROM A FRIEND AND WE WERE SO GLAD WE DID! IT'S HIDDEN AWAY IN A DOWNSTAIRS LOCATION BUT THE DINING ROOMS ARE BEAUTIFUL AND ELEGANT ESPECIALLY THE HIGH BACK BANQUET BOOTHS WHICH ARE PRIVATE AND EXTREMELY ROMANTIC.THE ONLY WAY TO DESCRIBE DAVIDE IS THAT IT'S THE CLOSEST THING TO BEING IN ITALY FROM THE CUSINE WHICH WAS EXTRAORDINARY TO THE WAITSTAFF WHICH WERE EXTREMELY PROFESSIONAL AND SPOKE ITALIAN TO EACH OTHER WHICH MADE US FEEL LIKE WE WERE IN FLORENCE NOT BOSTON.(NICE TOUCH).WE INQUIRED ABOUT THE HISTORY BEHIND THE RESTAURANT AND OUR WAITER TOLD US IT WAS OWNED BY TWO BROTHERS AND WE HAD THE PLEASURE OF MEETING ANTHONY ONE OF THE BROTHERS WHO MADE US FEEL LIKE WE WERE A GUEST AT HIS HOME NOT AT JUST ANOTHER ITALIAN RESTAURANT.DAVIDE HAS IT ALL,ATMOSHERE,EXCEPTIONAL FOOD,AWARD WINNING WINE LIST,AND A PERSONAL TOUCH!!! DAVIDE IS A HIDDEN GEM THAT MY WIFE AND I ARE SO HAPPY TO HAVE DISCOVERED.WE'VE BEEN TO MANY NORTHEND RESTAURANTS AND THIS IS IN A CLASS BY ITSELF.I CAN GO ON AND ON ABOUT DAVIDE RESTAURANT BUT I'LL LEAVE WITH THIS.DAVIDE (A MUST TRY IF YOUR IN BOSTON) Pros: VALET PARKING, SERVICE, AUTHETIC ITALIAN CUSINE(UNREAL) more

IS THIS A TOP RATED RESTAURANT?? 5/14/2006

I recently visited Boston for the weekend and I was looking for a nice Italian restaurant. According to the hotel list of local Italian restaurants, this looked like a great place to eat but looks can be deceiving. First off, the place looked like a dungeon. It was located in the cellar below the ground. Also, when you have to ask for bread, thats not a good sign. The menu was overpriced for mediocore, if not horrible food! As for drinks, I ordered just a soda, which by the way was so watered down, I couldn't tell the difference between tap water and my soda. How can anyone outside of Boston enjoy this place? I guess I have high standards since I come from New York City where we're known for ""good"" Italian food. I highly ""DON'T"" recommend this place if you plan on visiting Boston. Pros: Fair Ambience Cons: Overpriced, Mediocore Food, Bad Service more

Valentines Bliss 2/16/2006

My Girlfriend and I enjoyed Valentines dinner at Davide. I had gone years ago with my grandparents and remembered it from my childhood. I was blown away by the attentive service, the great food and an amazing romantic atmosphere. Dinner in Boston doesnt get much better than this, and I should know- I work at the finest steakhouse in boston! Pros: Great Service, Delicious Food, Romantic more

The best restaurant in the East coast 10/30/2005

I took my wife to Davide for the first time for her birthday and wow... was I surprised. Davide was from from another league. I was completely blown away by the level of professionalism but yet down to earth attitude of the wait staff. The wine was recommended to us by our server. The wine was moderately priced but yet delicious and flavorful. The table side caesar salad was by far the best caesar salad me and my wife had. The rest of the meal was to die for. Every course was what my wife refers to as heavenly and sensual. Definitely try the eggplant apt. and the rack of lamb. Davide is my favorite restaurant in the east coast. Just when I was giving up on restaurants Davide has introduced cuisine that I never thought I will find. Thank you Davide restaurant. I am recommending it everywhere I go. Pros: service, food, prices more

WORST SERVICE EVER 10/13/2005

i decided to take my boyfriend out on his birthday for an authentic, romantic italian dinner. after reading the reviews of what people said of the service, the food, and the ambience i decided to book reservations. directions to the place were wrong, we called and they couldn't give us directions, it wasn't crowded at all like the reviews said, and the service was horrendous! they were rude, didn't come enough to the table, our caesar salad was not prepared tableside, and the food was mediocre at best. for the price (and the outrageous valet parking--there really are no parking spots), food, and service i reccomend going somewhere else in the north end. don't waste your $$ here. Cons: service, food, valet parking more

Great Place For A Romantic Dinner 9/25/2005

My girlfriend and I visited Davide a little under a year ago. It was a cold winter night, and from the moment we walked in, we were greeted by a classy, warm, and friendly staff. The food is great (from appetizers to entrees). They have an infamous stock of grappa (top 5 in the U.S), if that is your thing, and have been noted as being among the top 50 Italian restaurants in the country. The most amazing part about it, was that the prices were not off the charts; very reasonable, especially considering how great the food and overall ambiance is. For an even quiter experience, ask to be seated in the smaller room in the back when making reservations. I would recommend this place for an occasion such as Valentine's Day, 2006. I hope you found this somewhat helpful, and enjoy this restaurant as much as we did! Pros: Food, Price, Romantic Cons: ?, ?, ? more
