Atrocious Exhibit 6/27/2010

My extended family went to see the Come Sit a Spell exhibit at the garden since we knew of two people/groups that entered benches. I have never seen such a shotty job of hosting an art exhibit, but also the look of the signs for the art and the garden setting itself looked gross. Pros: I'm not sure there are any. Cons: Looks dirty, dry and hot, do they care? more

Come prepared for fun! 7/5/2009

Daniel Stowe is a wonderful spot for everyone year round. It is a work in progress, but an beautiful and exciting one. Look at the model as you come inside and you'll see the dream continuing to evolve. They have workshops, holiday decor and pics with Peter rabbit or Santa... Daniel Stowe is mostly full sun, and it is true that often the drinking fountains outside are not working. The great thing about no restaurant is the ability to bring from home! Bring a picnic, fast food, cooler, sunblock, hat, parasol or umbrella. Refill you water bottle @ indoor drinking fountains located next to the restrooms. You'll have an armband to return. There are also drinks, sandwiches, and ice cream in the gift shop. Sit at the patio tables for shade or picnic tables for sun. Heat is a valid concern, especially for children and elderly. Come inside to cool off and venture back out when you feel refreshed. There is a lovely arching fountain for the children and adventurous adults to walk through, riskin more

Wonderful garden-still evolving 7/5/2009

Daniel Stowe is a lovely and quiet garden. It has many full sun garden rooms with fountains, a wedding garden, an orchid conservatory, and shaded trails edging the gardens it is not perfect but it is evolving. Christmas brings wonderful lights, pictures with Santa and carolers. Easter brings fun for children and photos with the Easter rabbit. Bring your own food and drinks and eat on the patio tables, picnic tables, or a blanket. There are also drinks, ice cream, and sandwiches in the shop. Remember how wonderful that sun will feel when you return in cooler seasons! One fountain arches to cool visitors who get caught as it cycles. Keep in mind that bulbs do require a period of natural wilting in order to keep the bulb healthy for its next blooming. Some of the plantings especially conifers, like the Redwood, are planted very close together. There are too many positives however, to focus on the negatives. If you are able to return with the family several times during the year save with the annual membership. This will allow you to visit for $75 with all the family throughout the year. Gardens, as nature, offer beauty unique to each season! Don't miss out with just a single visit. Daniel Stowe is like a new garden every season! Pros: Orchid Conservatory, Fountains, Holiday Events, Workshops, Cons: Full Sun in Summer more

Orchid Conservatory 12/8/2008

I recently visited the Orchid Conservatory. I loved it. It's so beautiful and serene. They decorated it for Christmas too, which was nice. They did a wonderful job. As for the bug comment I just read...wow, it's filled with plants. what exactly did you expect? Bugs happen. Anyway, if you have the opportunity, you should definitely go and visit the gardens. They're just beautiful. It's a bit smaller then I expected, but they're expanding so after a bit and with some helpful donations, it will be an even nicer experience. I loved it. more

Donna... 8/15/2008

I am very dissapointed to hear your comments on the orchid conservatory. The bugs, well, are a part of life. An indoor environment lacks the natural predators that usually control insect problems outdoors, so that is a challenge. The conservatory is completely organic for both the health and safety of our guests and employees, as well as to provide a safe environment for our butterflies that will be exhibited this fall.\r Volunteers are always welcomed, as hand picking bugs and spraying insecticidal soaps is very time consuming, on top of hand watering, pruning, and attempting to keep fast growing tropical plants within their bounds!\r Are you a former employee?\r \r Never mind, I know who you are... Sorry it didn't work out, GROW UP!!! more

Must have gone downhill from what those other people posted! 7/11/2008

I didn't find this place as amazingly wonderful as the others have said, in fact, that one guy said the greenhouses were wonderful at a date when the orchid conservatory wasn't even built, and there are no greenhouses open to the public there.\r \r I felt the place looked messy and overgrown. Prices are high for admission and there is no food there. There's not even a restaurant or gas station nearby.\r \r I got sunburned wondering through the english cottagye gardens that went on and on and on. There is no shade, and the only water available to drink I guess is drinking from the decorative large fountains since in the gardens the drinking fountains are broken. I thought this was a new garden that had money.\r \r I also was disgusted by the bird cage they had outdoors. The poor things crap in their food and water bowls and it didn't look like the water or seed cups had been cleaned or changed for a LONG TIME.\r \r Where was the tram? They were giving kids rides around, but all of us in the sun more

Middle of nowhere, unkempt, WAY overpriced for what is there. 7/11/2008

After the buzz I have been reading about, my friends and I went to Daniel Stow Botanical Garden. First off, it is NOWHERE close to any of the interstates as their advertising states 'convenient access to interstates 77a nd 85' NOT. With the price of gas so high, this place was some 40 miles out of Charlotte one way,a nd in the middle of nowhere. Pros: it's outdoors, clean bathrooms Cons: weedy, sterile, no information on plants or gardens, no shade, no water more

I love the experience inside and outside 9/8/2007

This garden is in a very pastoral setting to begin with along Route 279, and the entrance is calming seeing the meadows and trees. It leads up to a great visitor center, with an AMAZING stained glass dome inside (look up once inside the doors!) THere's a garden shop and it seems many rent the central hall for wedding receptions often.\r \r The White Garden is a terrific enclosed courtyard (where the wedding was going on), and there are 2 long Color Arbors with great combinations of plants and vines on the support columns.\r \r Can't forget to mention FOUNTAINS!!!! Love the sight and sounds of them across the grounds. I think the most dramatic is what is called the Canal Garden. A very long vista of perennials and tropical looking plants along a water canal with sculptures. At the end is another fountain. Very pleasing to the eye, and plants are labelled so you can figure out what it is you're looking at. I didn't know there were that many hardy palms.\r \r They are building a large conservat more

Wonderful Gardens! 11/11/2005

The gardens and greenhouses are wonderfully maintained and quite a sight! I recently attended a wedding that was held at the Gardens. The location and staff are top notch. Everything was in bloom and perfectly manacured. I honestly have never been to a more spectacular site for a wedding/reception! more

Awesome! 11/7/2005

Daniel Stowe is a beautifully breathtaking place to visit! It is a wonderful place to host weddings, receptions, and other special occasion events. The flowers that they have are absolutely stunning. I have often had my childrens' pictures taken there for Easter pictures and the background of the flowers really makes the pictures. I love to visit this beautiful gardens. It is so peaceful and calming. more

Absolutely Beautiful 10/3/2005

A trip to Stowe Botanical Gardens is simply inspiring! The beauty of these gardens never fail to amaze me. The staff is so knowledgeable and willing to answer any questions you have. They host special events throughout the year. Each is special and unique and very enjoyable. Ticket prices are very reasonable. PROS: Natural beauty CONS: none more

Evolving Nicely 6/19/2003

These fountain gradens are mature now and provide a nice show. The white wedding garden has small, immature plantings. It is in full sun (as is all the garden area) and without trellis. If your looking for lush shaded gardens with mature trees, in the garden area you will be very disappointed. There are tables with umbrellas near the building. There is a small adjacent lawn area that would be perfect for croquet. Take a picnic to setup at the tables, with plenty of drinks and try an early morning or evening time. Bring bathing suits, and sun block for small children and let them run through the fountain (just for that purpose). Remember the heat and direct sun and you should have fun! Pros: Fountains Cons: Lack of Trees more
