Best

Fantastic food, splendid service, awesome ambiance! Lunch was a test run. Dakota passed with soothing elegance. The club layout is impressive with openness of a New Orleans...

Worst

This famous jazz club is hidden in the most disappointing mall ever. I have been there twice for happy hour and bar food standards. Both times, basics were disappointing (wings to...

15 min wait at table, no service. Had to finally ask. Food was average at best. Bread came after we had finished our meal. Good timing huh? Manager acted like he had to go to the mens room and couldn't find it! End results..... NEVER AGAIN! Cons: , cost above average, noisey more

All That Jazz 4/7/2004

Being From St. Paul, I was skeptical when the Dakota Moved to Mpls. Not Anymore! This is a beautiful ambient space for Jazz. The food Is Incredible! The Apple Brie soup and Maple Frango Dessert are fantastic. The wait staff is very attentive and friendly. Most of the staff is from the old location, and they have hired some class managers. This is by far one of the finest Jazz clubs I have seen in the country. That is probably why they have a great lineup of artist. Lowell should be congratulated for being so instrumental in the Jazz and Fine Dining movement in MN. Pros: Great Food, Great Service, Great Jazz more

Music - A+, Food - B 4/3/2004

The Dakota Jazz Club and Restaurant is still one of the best venues for Jazz in the Twin Cities. The seating is great and their sound system is marvelous, a significant improvement from their previous location (Bandana Square). However the food was a little disappointing. The Caesar Salad seems to have lost its zip and the Comfort Food menu item, Chicken Pot Pie, bore little resemblance to anything I remember and was rather bland. However, the Grilled Beef Strip Loin in Hastings Reserve Jus was perfectly prepared and quite tasty. Pros: valet parking, great ambience, best Jazz in town more

Disappointed 2/13/2004

We went to the new location expecting much more than the Dakota delivered. The robotic server barely reached our table in time to prevent us from leaving, the service only got worse through the evening, and the food was mediocre. We observed the rest of the room hoping that we were stuck with the ""lemon"" but it appeared the service was consistently poor throughout the dining area. Nice ambiance, great music, but the rest is a flop. I wonder if they'll still be around next year?? Pros: music, ambiance Cons: , service, food more

A Class Act 2/13/2004

Excellent music, excellent service, excellent food and wine. You go a a jazz joint for the music, and the Dakota brings in the best talent in the area. Add great food and exceptional service to the mix, and its a night to remember. Pros: Incredible music, Professional staff, Great food and wine more

DAKOTA IS CHARMING 12/27/2003

The Dakota Bar and Grill was a charming experience! The act was top of the line and he food and beverage selection was excellent. I was pleased when I heard that the ""Dakota"" had moved from St. Paul to Minneapolis!! Pros: Food, Drink Selection, The bands more

See for yourself. 1/24/2003

The music was amazing. The food wasn't to die for, but it was quite good. The place was in the a location I was a little hesitant about going into, just because the Dakota is tucked into an industrial ""mall"" but the place was full of wonderful people who love Jazz. Pros: inexpensive, great atmosphere, crowd pleaser more

hidden away 1/16/2003

This famous jazz club is hidden in the most disappointing mall ever. I have been there twice for happy hour and bar food standards. Both times, basics were disappointing (wings too greasy and underspiced, hamburger small and over-cooked, etc). The second time the beer was too warm. The bill is pricey for bar food, but happy hour deals are good. I say, go for the music. Can the entrees be much better? Your call. Call ahead or check the web site: it does close occasionally for private parties. Pros: music, woodsy bar Cons: bar food, pricey more

Great deer, sad greens. 12/27/2002

I love venaison. And tonight I had one of the best rib: tenderly wild. It was served in the nouveau cuisine style witch means you get a tiny of what the chef intends to match with the peace of resistence. I wish a balance could be reach between looking like a magazine and being at Perkins! Especially when the squash, the bruxelle sprouts and the betteraves are so delicious! Unfortunatly the sauce was to sweet, almost oriental. Finaly the French in me got desapointed when the salad looked fainted and tasted watery. Pros: great cooking, wonderful music, great service Cons: expensive, inconsistent, need house wine more
