A response to Matthew L.'s bad review.\r \r Cunningham Shanor requested that the customer call the police immediately, the customer refused to do so. We requested that the employee be charged, however we as the employer could not do so because the customer would not press charges and they were the victim. The employee was terminated. The customer received a refund of all monies paid and the property was recovered and returned to the customer. There exists records of letters and phone calls made to the customer in an attempt to resolve the issue. The customer filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. All actions by both parties were reviewed under the scrutiny of the Better Business Bureau and they have now closed the case and consider the matter resolved. Cunningham Shanor does in fact do complete background checks and drug testing on their employees however when a customer refuses to press charges against an individual as in this case, there is no criminal record to be found. more

Reputable, reliable and thorough. I was informed by my gas company that I had an underground gas leak and I needed to get it fixed within ten days or be shut off. I performed a typical Google search and narrowed my selection to two well-known local plumbing experts. Company K and Cunningham Shanor. Company K had good reviews but I was put off by their phone support. Cunningham Shanor was qualified but their online reviews were tainted by one very vocal dissatisfied customer. Despite this negative review, I decided I would at least entertain an estimate from Cunningham Shanor for the work.\r \r Before contacting Cunningham Shanor, I contacted company K. This very popular plumbing contractor provided an estimate that wound up being nearly three times higher than Cunningham Shanor. Company K?s phone support team was uninformed and their estimator was rude and arrogant.\r \r I then contacted Cunningham Shanor. I was satisfied enough with their phone support to warrant an on-site estimate. Since it was a gas line installation, the installer had to be certified by an independent contractor. The phone support specialist indicated that they were certified. The Cunningham Shanor estimator was courteous, on time and thorough in explaining all that was involved with an underground gas line installation. The installer had the same qualities as the estimator; courteous, informative and pleasant to work with. They handled everything including working closely with the gas company to ensure minimum down time of our gas service. Going into this project, I had some hesitation based on one unhappy customer. In the end, I am glad I chose Cunningham Shanor for the project.\r \r Another indication of Cunningham Shanor?s positive reputation is their Better Business Bureau rating which is A+. That alone should provide you plenty of comfort in selecting them for your next plumbing project and should carry more weight than that of a disgruntled vocal customer or even my ramblings posted here.\r more

Very reliable company.  They have been in butler since my grandpas time.  They do good sewer cleaning when my toilet won't flush, the roots broke through my pipes.  They also installed the fire departments tankless hot water system, and the central air/furnace for the police station and city buildings.  Great guys, down to earth and honest.\r \r Tell them you read James Hinds review on yelp.  They will treat you great! more

FRAUDULENT business. Do not use under any circumstances! 1/5/2012

I called Cunningham Shanor Inc. (Butler, PA) for a plumber to unclog a drain. Not only was the man they sent exceedingly inexperienced, but he also ROBBED me. When I called to report the theft, the owner had the secretary dismiss me and tell me to call the police, which I did. Thanks to the vigilance of the Butler Township Police, my stolen possessions were returned when the employee admitted to the theft, though they were damaged from being buried in the mud. Meanwhile, my bill was $278 for a drain that the employee never unclogged, claiming that the floorboards needed ripped up. This bill reflects being charged by the hour (during which time the employee was stealing from me), $68 for a part that I later purchased at Lowes for $6.27, and an additional $50 for the use of the snake, which I have never been charged for before. All this, and there was still a bucket under my sink. Two weeks later, a reputable plumber came and unclogged my drain in less than 40 minutes for a total of $140. Despite repeated calls to Cunningham Shanor Inc. to speak to the owners about the grossly inflated bill and theft, I was ceaselessly ignored and never received a return call. Fortunately, I stopped payment on the check, because they tried to cash the check even after a police officer questioned their employee at their business. Only after I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau to warn consumers did I receive a call from one of the office staff members, who assured me that the matter would be resolved expediently. Again, they’ve not called back, even though I’ve made additional attempts to contact them. To date, nothing has been resolved, I’m still waiting for a call back, and neither of the owners has ever called me. At this point, I do not expect to hear back from them since nearly a month has passed since the incident and I’ve made multiple attempts to contact them. My responsibility now is to warn other consumers about their fraudulent pricing, failure to conduct adequate background checks on employees, their obvious lack of concern for their customers, and their overall unprofessional and incompetent conduct. more
