From bad to worse !!! 10/19/2008

Should have turned back when we saw the tacky handwritten notebook paper sign posting the real Sat. opening time of 9:30 to the side of the painted sign saying "open 7:30-..." A coffee shop on a main street that opens at 9:30 on a Saturday??? Hmmm... We were the first customers of the day and this is how it went: too much food on the first table so we moved to another where I only had to wipe the sticky film from the table; waitress had a strange zombie-like demeanor; once she brought our coffee (with lipstick on rim) we literally didn't see her or any other employee for like 15 minutes - finally came and told us our order was next, and took my dirty cup of now cold coffee, 10 minutes later still no food, we're ready to just pay for the coffee and go, I get up to call her we make eye contact and she walks away! Meanwhile we've noticed 3 other people leave without service (we saw them later at J. Christopher's down the street) finally the food comes - it's dry, burnt, and missing key ingredients; called mgr. who turned out to be a long-ago waitress from the Northlake location that I still use as an example of a terrible waitress, she tried to explain to us why this 30 minute wait was normal/reasonable, offered to make us another omelette (the first one was an insult!), and blamed it on the waitress. I pointed out that 30 minutes to fill the b'fast order of the first customers of the day in an empty restaurant didn't make sense, food was poorly prepared, and that I hoped she wasn't going to argue about it with us. She finally agreed to comp the meal as she walked away mumbling about us under her breath. Crazy bad service and bad food. Used to just be marginally bad service and so-so food, but good location. I told my family to please remind me not to go back there again no matter how convenient. Shame, shame, Crescent Moon! If they had come over , explained there was only one cook, and thanked us for our patience they might have salvaged some big tippers like us. Pros: Location Cons: No music, sticky tables, bad attitudes, bad under pressure more

DO NOT EAT HERE! 10/1/2008

Again, Do not eat here. The place was recently sold and the new ownership is trying it's hardest to run people away. I ate here 2 days ago and they were out of half the menu and I wish they were out of what I ordered. I had the pimento cheese hamburger which sounds too hard to mess up. NOT THE CASE. The burger was a premade piece of something with chewy rubbery things inside. The pimento cheese was watery, almost like they did add water. The waitress said they had a new cook. Yea right! They are passing the time and trying to recoup some income before they close for good I understand and I was dumb enough to try and help them. RUN, RUN for your life as far away as you can from this place. I'm not kidding! Pros: The lights were on...oh and the Diet Coke was drinkable Cons: Everything else more

family restaurant 6/25/2008

I ate at the Decatur location last night and I had the worst dining experience in recent memory. The waiter was slammed and inexperienced, yet other servers wandered around like they had little to do. We had to ask for lemon for my Mom's tea 4 times before it came. We had to ask for kid menus twice before they came. The table was dirty. The booth was dirty. There was splattered food all around us, even on the lamp. There were flies all over the restaurant. The food was terrible. I had the veggie plate. My plate was dirty. The beans had brown spots all over them and there were bean ends on the plate, the pieces you trim off BEFORE cooking, that had been cooked along with the main part of the bean. The squash casserole looked like it had been sitting in the bowl under a heat lamp all day. I did not even eat it and asked my waiter to take it off the bill. The biscuit was so dry and crumbly looking I did not eat it. The fried green tomatoes were completely greasy and gross. My waiter kept forgetting to bring me another Coke. My Mom's soup was watery and just bad. And the kid menu item of hamburger and fries that comes with 4 hamburgers for a 6 year old child was completely insane. They did not even taste good. I will never eat at this Crescent Moon again. My stomach turns just from thinking about it. This saddens me because I live in Decatur and we need reasonably priced restaurants like this that familes feel comfortable going to. In this economy, if this is what I am going to get, I will just go to McDonald's next time. more

Best place to get half cooked food and F!!? up service 6/20/2008

This use to be a favorite for me. In the past couple of years, the service and consistency of the food has drastically declined. Some of the servers seem to pride themselves on being rude. (very Thumbs Uppish) Some of the staff even appeared racially chalanged. Nothing can discibe the feeling of watching an employee greet, smile, and give good service at one table, then appoach my table with some kind of negative assumptive behavior. I was piqued, Hell I can cook my breakfast at home. I have probably told about 50 people about this restaurant over the years, and after my last visit, I have decide to campaign against them. The service is terrible. Pros: Being able to choose never to spend My money there ever again Cons: Not located in Roswell more

Comfort Food 6/9/2008

This is a Decatur classic. The food is great and the atmosphere is wonderful. It is like going back to the fifties. more

best omelets ever 5/27/2008

LOVE this place for breakfast. Great dinner options as well. My family loves this place. Expect to wait a long time if you go for brunch on a weekend! Pros: great food, never had anything here that wasn't great, service is good Cons: parking is not great, long waits on weekends more

Horrid... 4/12/2008

RUINED the cool, Decatur favorite hang out. Now serving hideous decor, food and service. A big YUCK in my book...NEVER going back! Pros: WAS wonderful ... Cons: everything NOW more

Great place to go!! 11/11/2007

I was really impressed with Cresent Moon! It really lived up to all the great reviews about it! This is a great spot for 1st dates and the prices are very reasonable. Our waiter was very hospitable. The food was awesome! I will certainly be visiting this place again!! Pros: Great food, great prices, great customer service Cons: none more

Great breakfast food 7/17/2007

I love the food at this place. I recommend that you get there early on a Saturday or Sunday morning. Usually, I try to arrive before 11 a.m. and have a minimal or non-existent wait time (5 minutes). After 12 p.m., the wait seems substantial. I really love the crab and shrimp fritatta. It has never disappointed me, but I can't really say the same for the Elvis skillet eggs. Maybe eggs, potatoes, cheese, and meat in a skillet is not for me but you may like it. I found the Elvis dish to be somewhat dry, even after adding ketchup. The only downfall to this place is that I always feel rushed when I am eating. For example, servers repeatedly asking me if I'm done with my plate, bringing my bill before I even have the chance to request it, or servers who actually try to take my plate without asking if I am finished. I recognize that people are waiting, but if I have been eating for only 30 minutes, there is no reason to rush me out of my seat. Otherwise, I highly recommend this place for breakfast. No one that I have eaten with has ever been disappointed in their food selection. Pros: Parking in the garage behind the restaurant is validated, great food Cons: Wait staff rushing you out of restaurant more

Great Sunday Brunch 7/9/2007

You should definitely try the Arnold's Eggs -- Crescent Moon's rendition of the traditional Eggs Benedict, it's served on challah bread. I'd also highly recommend the Cream Cheese Scramble (I add salmon) - well worth it. My other fave is the Heap, but be warned, the half portion is more than ample. I've also had friends say that the meatloaf & wraps are delicious, but I always eat their breakfast/brunch menu when I go. Watch out for long brunch lines on the weekends, but it moves fairly quickly. Pros: Food, atmosphere Cons: lines at weekend around midday for brunch more

Great Breakfast For One! Sit At The Bar! Terrific Service! Grilled Grit Cake! 2/17/2007

I was at the Decatur Square this morning, hungry, by myself, and decided to rush into Crescent Moon. The wait was about 45min., so I just grabbed a place at the bar. Nice friendly lady at the counter, had a big "hello" and friendly smile. For me, it was all about the country ham, red-eye gravy, and the most wonderful Grilled Grit(As In Grits)Cake with Cheddar. What a wonderful combination. And I could not resist one of those wonderful whole wheat biscuits. Breakfast for one, anytime here! Pros: Excellent Breakfast For One! Grilled Grit Cake! Friendly Service! more

Ohhhh yeah! 1/8/2007

Looking for a romantic dinner? Quick lunch? or just some great food? Well this is the place, i give it an A++ Pros: Great food, service. Fast waiters/waitresses Cons: Parking is a big issue more

Great Eggs Benedict! 11/13/2006

I love breakfast food and the Arnold's Eggs here are excellent. This is their take on eggs benedict and they are served on challah bread instead of english muffins. The potatoes are great, perfectly seasoned. Every time I go there it is consistently great. The staff are friendly and fast (once you are seated). Pros: Great breakfast and dinner meals, large portions Cons: Lines on the weekends more

Good breakfast 11/12/2006

Always a wait, but the back room has coffee and friendly crowd. Breakfast is above average, which makes up for the slow service. more

User review by mikedeazy08 10/23/2005

My friends and I used to go to Crescent Moon every Thursday before school. We got there when it opened, so we were seated promptly. The service was usually good, as well as the food. However, the serving sizes have decreased and the prices have increased a large amount in the past year. The griddle grits were my biggest disappointment. Originally served in a large skillet, they were $1.99, now they are served in a shallow bowl. The drinks are very expensive too. Buying $2.00 Coke is rally not worth it. However, if you get to breakfast early on a weekday, you will be pleased with how quick the service is. Pros: Clean, Nice ambience, Efficient service Cons: long wait on weekends, smaller servings, expensive drinks more

  • The Scene
Full-to-bursting with Hanna-Barbera colors, unique countertop designs and gold sparkle vinyl, this small, playful restaurant is a whole lot of '50s sci-fi. Its decor features stars, moons and planets, as well as luminous clusters of multi-sized globe lamps. Better known as a weekend brunch destination, the restaurant's also becoming popular as a reliable lunch and dinner spot.

    The Food
Crescent Moon thrives on the eggs-all-day routine, built out by burgers, inventive sandwiches and comfort food dinners. To-go biscuit sandwiches draw an early crowd of business folks from downtown Decatur. The basic breakfast, known as The Usual, offers two eggs, bread, meat, and grits or potatoes, and gives you energy to burn well through lunch. Other stars include innovative wraps, and specialty meal-in-one challah French toast that's worth a special trip. For weekend brunch, try Custer's last breakfast--a delicious combination of corn cakes, poached eggs and chipotle Hollandaise.
