Love This Little Place! 7/4/2011

I love this little place, they do good food the simple and proper way. The beignets taste better than the ones I had in New Orleans, where I lived for years. I like the strips better. The seafood gumbo is on point! I also get the sandwich with grilled chicken, garlic mayo, and bacon. I eat here very often. The staff is very nice also. more

The best beignets outside of New Orleans.. maybe better!! 3/28/2011

I couldn't believe my eyes when I first saw this place, you just don't expect to see a place like this outside of the New Orleans area. Ever since then I have come here at least once a month, sometimes more often, to get my beignet fix. The beignets here are just great, even better than some places in New Orleans. They are a little bigger than Cafe du Monde's and can be ordered in sets of 3 and 12, or individually. Unlike Cafe du Monde, the beignets here are always fresh and made to order and there are other desserts also available for order. As for the rest of the menu, they offer a host of New Orleans favorites.. however most people will probably overlook these right away, as everyone has a sweet tooth. In terms of service, this place is generally pretty friendly; though at times it is also hit and miss(usually when the place is packed, which is understandable), but never a bad experience. If they ever run out of beignets, they will tell you when more will be ready, which is usually no more than 20 minutes. The people who run this place are from the New Orleans area and you can tell that they put a lot of love and pride into their work. Overall, I really enjoy coming here and would recommend this place especially for it's beignets. It's good to see a beloved New Orleans tradition being so well embraced in Houston. more

Damned good gumbo yaya 1/9/2011

I've read several reviews about the unfriendly service at this restaurant, but I have to disagree! They catered gumbo, salad, and hush puppies for our Christmas dinner - the service was excellent, and Linda, our helper there, was delightful! I'd love to go out for cajun & drinks with her sometime! We finished the left-over gumbo tonite, and it was sublime after time time in the freezer. Thank you Linda and everyone else involved! Dale Mabry more

Awesome Beignets, Lack of Customer Service!!! 8/13/2010

I have deep roots in New Orleans and I believe that this establishment has the somereally, really good Beignets. I found this place in passing and I stopped by for the first time yesterday. As mentioned, the Beignets are good but the customer service is horrible. It seemed as if the lady taking orders didnt want to be there thus made me not want to be there. When I asked for something in addition to my beignets, it was like a chore for the lady to get it for me and then she had an attitude. Its almost as if it was painful for her to provider service. I would definatly want to recommend this place for their beignets, but i would not recommend this place to anybody due to the lack of customer service. more

Good Beignets; Horrible Service 7/14/2010

My family, friends and I have enjoyed going to Crescent City Beignets for years. The beignets are delicious and a fun end to an evening. However, the service has gone down tremendously. We go between 9-10 pm (1-2 hours before closing) and the staff is clearly doing everything possible to push out all the customers to close early. They refuse to clean any tables and the trash cans over-flow. All the back tables have chairs stacked on top to prevent customers from using them. The staff is extremely grumpy and refuses to brew coffee past 9. We even attempted to eat there tonight and they were completely out of ice and were utterly adverse to turning the ice-maker back on. Its a shame that one of our favorite places has become so miserable to patronize. I wonder where the owner has gone that they'd let the restaurant die? Pros: Food Cons: Service is horrible and restaurant is filthy more

Beignets Yum! Service Yuck! 7/10/2010

The beignets are great. As good as in my hometown of New Orleans. But the place is almost always filthy. I went in last Thursday night at 9:50 (it closes at 11) and not one table was clean. In the front, the stools were up on the counter giving the impression from outside that the place was closed. No doubt that's what the employees wanted to convey as they were clearly not happy about getting more customers. The guy at the cash register never speaks, never smiles. Where are the owners of this franchise? What a shame. But if you want great beignets, this is the place. Just go in the daytime. That staff is considerably better. Pros: Beignets Cons: Everything else more

Beignet City 6/27/2010

I have a lot of good memories of Beignets. My dad made business trips to New Orleans when I was a kid so I had them then, and then went a few years back and had some at Cafe du Monde. Love them! So in stopping at Crescent City I knew there was a good chance they wouldn't live up to my memories. But, surprise, they weren't too far off. I got an order of three, not expecting them to be quite as big as they were, and really enjoyed them. Hot. Very hot (as they should be.) They tasted great and were nice and fluffy. They do have other food items on the menu I noticed but i'll sample them next time. They smelled tasty though. Now being a coffee bean junkie I was eager to try their coffee. For me the coffee ruined the entire experience and is the reason for only two stars. It was just horrible. Honestly it was just a small step above gas station coffee, and that stuff is about as bad as you can get. Apart from the coffee fiasco the place is nice and clean and the cashier seemed to be nice. I'd go back but only for the Beignets. Pros: Beignets Cons: Coffee more

So-So very disappointed 9/5/2009

I went to Crescent City Beignets with high expectations. My friend told me that it was the place to get the best beignets. The place itself is a hole-in-the wall. The floor and air in the place is dingy. The food is ok. I ordered the breakfast croissant it was so-so. The beignet strips were ok, they tasted like the funnel cake at the rodeo. The service was ok, we waited 20 minutes for 4 beignet strips! Definitely not impressed. If you are looking for a great breakfast try somewhere else! Cons: Food and service more

The Beignets are fabulous 7/31/2009

I was so happy to find this place being a displaced Cajun (happy to be in Texas though!). The beignets bring me back to my days at LSU where my friends and I hung out at Coffee Call for beignets and the ever needed cafe au lait. Pros: The food is great - the beignets make me homesick Cons: Service is beyond awful more

Gumbo too peppery to enjoy 10/27/2008

I ordered the seafood gumbo for this first time. I am a cajun from Lousisana and can personally tell you that this is not what gumbo suppose to taste like. It was so peppery that I could not taste the gumbo and spent most of my meal drinking water to cool down my mouth. This is NOT a good seafood gumbo. And the price ? Over $10 ! Never again. If you haven't eaten their gumbo yet, I suggest you try a sample first and save your money - just step next door to Subway and get a decent meal for the money. Pros: Close to work although this fact doesn't do you any good ! Cons: Bad gumbo, too expensive more

BEST BREAKFAST 9/28/2008

Great Stuff!!! 7/28/2007

Great Beignets, almost as good as Du Monde!!! Gumbo is good too. We'll be going back to try some of the other things on the menu... Pros: Great Doughnuts... Cons: Service needs a little attention. more

Worst Service EVER! 5/17/2007

The cafe my colleague and I visited this morning, May 2, 2007, was Crescent City Beignet located at 3260 Westheimer Rd, Houston, TX 77098. Pros: They have food Cons: They have the worst customer service ever. more

Sad State of Affairs 5/2/2007

Strangely enough, I have been all over Houston to many restaurants, cafes, and businesses, but I had not tried Crescent City Beignet until this morning. It started with a friendly rendezvous with a friend, and when I approached the counter to seek help in my order, I was verbally abused by the cashier/server, threatened by what appeared to be a patron and friend of the manager, and treated with the utmost disrespect by the manager. Swiftly, as I had turned my back to leave, the manager had already begun to yell at me and threaten me to never return. Me not returning is the obvious factor. Seated closely to Lamar High School, my guess is the establishment does not know how to treat professional adults. The manager even insulted the type of vehicle I was driving as ""not even expensive."" I find it difficult to see what this has to do with professionalism or my patronage. The cafe was reported to the a business bureau this morning, and I am working on locating the owner of the establishment. I believe businesses deserve a 2nd chance, but the owner/manager needs to be aware of the less than courteous service. Patrons beware. Pros: Inside the loop French pastry Cons: Service service service more
