Wonderful Memories 5/19/2005

When my husband and I were dating we lived in Metearie (""Fat City"") 13 years ago, we always ate at Crazy Johnnies. It was our very favorite place to eat. It has a romantic memory for us because we ate their together and loved it. The food was always exceptional for such a reasonable price. We have moved around to different states since then with his job, but whenever we are with a group of friends talking about our wonderful times in New Orleans, we always mention that if your ever in Metearie, you must eat at Crazy Johnnies. It was very small back then and you had to be sure to get there before the crowd. We haven't been back in such a long time, but when we get the chance we will be sure to go to Crazy Johnnies to see how wonderfully it has grown. more

Great Steaks 3/15/2005

Crayzy Johnnie's is a great place to dine. Service is great considering how busy the restaurant is and the steak is cheap and tender. This is definately a place for you to eat if you're on a budget and close to Fat City. Pros: Steaks Cons: Wait more

Best value in the city! 7/26/2004

AWESOME food at an incredible price. Dippin' bread or dippin' shrimp are amazing. The filet melts in your mouth. Service needs improvement. Not a fancy place, but still definitely worth a stop! Pros: Food, Value Cons: , Service more

Real bargain 12/22/2003

Steaks are very good. Atmosphere is nothing to brag about. But the price is amazingly low!!!!!! Pros: Good food, Great value Cons: Not much variety, Not romantic more

Good steak, bad atmosphere 8/24/2003

While the steak and the price is good, the atmosphere is no more than a smokey bar room. I have to say that the steak was very good, tender and cooked to perfection (medium rare). However the smoke can kill you and the place doesn't look very clean. Our service was also sketchy, the waitress rarely checked on us, leaving us to chase them down. But for the price and the quality of the steak, I guess you have to take the good with the bad. Pros: Flavorful steaks, inexpensive Cons: Smoke, Can be crowded more

Eat Great for Less 8/5/2003

When I am on a budget but still want a good tasting steak, I always choose Crazy Johnnie's. The price is really unbeatable for the cut of meat you choose. Only thing I disliked are the televisions going in every corner. CNN was on while I ate there last and while I was trying to enjoy a great meal; all I saw was War subjects. Even though this is part of the world now; when eating I like have the ability to escape from the realm of it. So my only advice is to turn off the t.v's! Pros: inexpensive, excellent prime rib, great staff Cons: televisions on more

Crazy about Johnnie's 7/1/2003

In a city with the finest eating establishments on the planet, Crazy Johnnie's fills your need for beef. You can order a steak at Ruth's Chris or Houstons or many other fine places but the $7.99 sirloin strip or $11.99 filet mignon at Crazy Johnnie's is simply the best value for the money. Don't forget to try the dipping sauce & fresh bread or salad bowl. If you want shrimp try the bar-b-que shrimp. Crazy Johnnie's cannot be beat on the quality and price. Pros: Quality of steak, Price, Service Cons: ambiance more

Great Steaks 6/9/2003

This was our first time to Crazy Johnnie's. It took several trips around the block to finally find somewhere to park. The steak that I had was heavy on the garlic, but since I like garlic that was fine with me. However, for someone who doesn't like garlic I could see were that might be a problem. The crazy potatoes were probably even better than the steak, and the steak was wonderful. My waitress checked to make sure the steak was done correctly, and several more times to make sure everthing was alright. I was a little disappointed that the steak came with neither a salad nor bread. Pros: Steaks to fight for, Super spuds, Waitress Cons: Limited parking, No salad with meal, No bread with meal more

Best Steaks 5/28/2003

Crazy Johnny's has The Harbor beat by far for steaks. The service is better, the food is better, the employees are not rude, the place is neater and cleaner, the atmosphere is a lot nicer, the music is at a reasonable level, and you don't have to put up with disco lights. You can even watch a game on one of the many TV's. They even have a big screen. Pros: Atmosphere, neat & clean Cons: No po'boys, No 'burgers more

IS VALUE JUST A MATTER OF MONEY? 5/15/2003

CRAZY JOHNNIES DOES DELIVER PROBABLY THE LEAST EXPENSIVE FILET IN TOWN HOWEVER I HAVE FOUND THAT THE FLAVOR (AND FRESHNESS) LEAVE MUCH TO BE DESIRED. MORE THAN ONCE HAS MY STEAK HAD AN ODOR RENDERING IT INEDIBLE. CRAZY POTATOES ALSO WERE IN NO WAY TO BE COMPARED WITH ANY OF THE SIDE ITEMS AT RUTHS. KEEP CATERING TO THE AFTER MIDNIGHT SLIGHTLY DRUNK CROWD AND YOU WILL UNDOUBTEDLY REMAIN IN THE TOP 10. Pros: PRICE, SPEED, SERVICE Cons: FRESHNESS, FLAVOR, TOUGHNESS more

MELT IN YOUR MOUTH FILET 5/15/2003

WE WERE IN NEW ORLEANS FOR THE JAZZ FEST AND DECIDED TO GO TO CRAZY JOHNNIE'S. THE FILET MIGNON WAS SO GOOD WE WENT BACK A SECOND NIGHT. MY WIFE WHO DOESN'T EAT BEEF EVEN HAD THE FILET THE SECOND NIGHT. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. A LITTLE BIT OF A WAIT BUT THEY HAVE A BAR AREA THAT KEPT US BUSY. Pros: INEXPENSIVE, GREAT FOOD, COMFORTABLE more

Can't Beat the Price for the Filet! 2/7/2003

Excellent filet, the beef tips with shrimp is also very good. Dippin bread is awesome. The garlic mashed potatoes are great too. Not to crazy about the stuffed artichoke or stuffed mushrooms, the stuffing tastes like it was premade at a grocery store or something. Parking isn't so good. It is loud and dark and a little conjested inside, but the good prices and food more than make up for it. more

Yum yum yum 2/7/2003

Great food. cheap price. fast service. friendly service. everyone loves eating here Pros: tasty food!, garlic mashed 'taters Cons: parking more

C/J Off Menu Specials @-$10 1/25/2003

Excellent Prime Steaks & Schrimp @ -$10. Ask for C/J Off Menu Specials. I love Prime Philly-Schrimp combo w/super buttery/garlic potatoes for under $10. They make a killing on drinks, but wine by glass are large. As a former resident of area, the same meat truck delivers to C/J and Ruth's Chris Steak House down street. For after dinner mature dancing, try Moe's Challet in Metairie. Pros: Prime Steaks & Shrimp, Off Menu C/J Specials, Super Butter/Garlic Cons: Loud Atmosphere, High Drink Prices, Not for small kids more

fun food 1/13/2003

Being visitors to your city, we were taken to Crazy Johnnies by friends. Though very noisy, it did not take away from the excellent steaks we had at the very best price imaginable. The wine was even on special at 2 for 1 and this added to our enjoyment. more

Melt in your mouth tender steak 12/6/2002

Crazy about Crazy Johnnie's 12/4/2002

I love the atmosphere...very casual and relaxed. I enjoy the dim lighting and candles. Occasional waiting, but not unreasonable. Excellent quality at a very reasonable price. Pros: inexpensive, romantic, quality Cons: fair parking more

Killer BBQ'd Shrimp 12/4/2002

This is our first stop each time we visit ""The Big Easy""> The steaks and prime rib are killer, the BBQ""d shrimp are the size of bananas, the spicy buttered sauce makes you want to eat 2 loaves of bread. Absolutely superb meals every time, very good prices, what a nice find. Pros: Excellent steaks, Great Shrimp, Easy to find more

I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! 11/29/2002

This place is awesome...yes it's a bar atmosphere, kind of a hang out. Food is fantastic, steaks very, very good. Don't miss the dipping sauce for bread. Try the Mischa...half filet, half shrimp. In a town full of incredible food, Crazy Johnnie's holds it's own. Pricing is very reasonable. A trip to N.O. wouldn't be complete for me without a stop here. Love it! Best for guys to go, or for existing couples...not for a romantic first date unless she's a really fun, easy-going lady who doesn't need/want a white-napkin place to have to be impressed! Pros: killer food, fun place, great staff more
