This was my second time to eat here. Both times I had shrimp and grits. Maybe next time I will try something new . It is not very close to my home or I would go more often.

Very Disappointed 12/16/2011

My husband and sons and I used to eat here some time ago. It has definitely gone South - and not in a good way. My husband and I joined a couple of friends there who had never eaten at Crazy Cajun's before. It was a Friday night and hardly anyone was there so the ""service"" was pretty good in that our server was attentive. The food however was really bad. We love Cajun food - as do our friends. None of us could hardly eat the food. The shrimp and grits (how do you screw that up?) were really bad and the gumbo had an after taste and just wasn't good. I generally give good reviews because I want to share a great experience...not in this case. The food wasn't the only thing that was not good. When they brought us the first tab is was one amount - which we questioned and we sent credit cards with the server to pay the tab. To cut to the chase - they overcharged us. We did not realize it until we spoke with the other couple who ""split"" the tab with us. It was only a pleasant evening because we enjoyed the company of our friends. more

worth the drive from atlanta, ga 9/18/2011

worth the drive from atlanta, ga. the absolute best seafood gumbo i have ever eaten and red beans and rice is also fabulous. A must try is the Pontchatrain which is sort of a pasta dish with white wine garlic cream sauce, with artichoke hearts and macadamia nuts topped with a soft shell crab and some sauteed crab and or crawfish and or shrimp. Craaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazy Caaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaajun Gooooooooooooooooooooooooooood!!!!!!!! service was good too. and not expensive more

puzzling 2/6/2010

Used to be a good place, went last night, not going back. Employees don't seem to care about service or whether you come back and were rude to the staff in the kitchen (we sat near the kitchen window). Sat ourselves, wiped our table ourselves, would have ordered another beer and dessert, but no one came back to check on us or offered. I thought one staff t-shirt about ""Service S_ucks"" was a joke at first. It is not. Spare yourself and go to NEW ORLEANS RESTAURANT by the RAVE in VESTAVIA for better food and a better experience. Pros: decent food but not worth it Cons: service is bad and they don't seem to care more

Pleasant experience 6/27/2009

Great shrimp, great service, they went out of our way to treat us well, they checked on us every few minutes Pros: Real cajun style more

Is 0 stars an option? 6/24/2009

Poor service is holding a beer while taking orders from customers. Poor service is cooking people?s food wrong. Poor service is leaning over customer?s food to switch people?s mismatched side items. Poor service is a long wait for food. Now, all of these things happened while we were at Crazy Cajun?s. But, their shirts say it: our service s_cks. HOWEVER, poor service is not making a mistake on people?s orders and then forcing the customer to pay the difference. This too happened. We assumed it was just an innocent mistake, but when questioned, the owner threatened to call the police if we did not pay what was on the ticket. We tried to explain to her that the waiter had made a mistake, but she refused to listen. It was absolutely unbelievable. It was harassment. I am appalled that these people are in a service industry of any kind. Pros: good memories because it was such a horrible experience Cons: please see below more

Worst customer service, in spite of the fact they know it 6/24/2009

My friends and I get together for dinner every Wednesday, visiting different restaurants around town. We've been to Crazy Cajuns once before as a group, and I've been there a couple of times on my own. I realize the service s_cks. They advertise the service s_cks. They're proud of the fact that the service s_cks. Tonight, however, I understood the depth of that advertisement. The scenario: We ordered a ""bucket"" of beer before 7pm in order to get the happy hour price, or however they classify it. We ordered our food, and then our sixth showed up. Shortly after joining us, he ordered his food as well. The beer and most of the food showed up within a reasonable amount of time, no complaints there. It was a little odd, however, that one of the people serving our food was not dressed in the same shirt as the other servers...and was carrying his beer around with him. Our friend who showed up a little late was patient, realizing that he ordered well after the rest of us. Meanwhile, I take two bites out of my blackened tuna steak (a.k.a. ""the brick""), realize that it's completely over-cooked, send it back to get a new tuna steak. Again, no major complaints there. Stuff happens in the kitchen. Got it. A while goes by (long enough for me to get my new tuna steak and the rest of us to finish our meals), and our friend STILL does not have his food. He finally just lets the server know that he doesn't want the food. After all, we're all getting ready to leave at this point. Then come the checks...this is where it gets good. My wife looks at the check and realizes that we've been over-charged on the beer. Remember we ordered it? That's right, before 7pm. Apparently, our server couldn't remember that. He also made the assumption during the initial ordering that we, in fact, didn't want a bucket but, rather, wanted to order beers individually, even though I said, ""I would like to order a bucket of beer."" The real problem: In short, the owner. Another server was actually doing a fair job of trying to make amends. And I should point out that everything up to this point was being discussed very calmly. There was some confusion, but we were working through it. Then the owner caught wind of what was happening. She comes rushing out of the doors and proceeds to give us a lesson in logic, I suppose. I her overly-dramatic, I've-spent-way-too-much-of-my-life-in-bars attitude, she declares, ""I see four beers on the receipt and four beers on the table, so you need to pay your bills!"" Stunned silence. I think I can safely say everyone at our table was thinking, ""did she really just say that?"" After making a completely unnecessary scene, blaming the whole thing on ""their system"", making no attempt at making amends, threatening to call the authorities if we didn't pay our bills and mocking us while standing at another table of frequenters, I can safely say I will never go back to Crazy Cajuns. I have to admit, though, it created a memory for me and friends. Oh, and the food isn't that great. Definitely not worth the s_cky service. Pros: outdoor seating Cons: Horrible service and the fact that they're proud of it more

Worst Experience at a Restaurant 6/24/2009

We were overcharged. The server split a bucket of beer that we did not ask to be split. This took away the special offer we were taking advantage of before 7pm. When we brought the error to our server's attention, he did nothing more than offer to bring us more drinks and question whether we really arrived when we said we had arrived (we arrived and ordered before 6:45pm). The owner finally came out threatening (then interrupting and eventually yelling) to call the police if we did not pay the amount on the bill. She never even inquired about or listened to our complaint. We were literally called criminals because of THEIR mistake. We will never go back. (Other complaints: one guest never received his food, the server switched side items from one plate to another at our table, the tuna was burned to a crisp and we sent it back, one server brought out a plate while drinking a beer.) Pros: pretty good food Cons: terrible service, overcharged, treated like criminals more

Super Cajun food in Birmingham, Crazy Cajun 1/11/2009

We were in New Orleans last summer and ate all kinds of good cajun food. In Birmingham this weekend and went over on Saturday night about 7:30. Seated right away, owner and wife and staff very friendly. I had the crawfish etoffe and it was great. I then had small order of crawfish, excellent. Wife had tuna blackened and it was great. Told the owner we would be back on our next visit to Birmingham. more

Worst customer service and terrible food!!!! 5/12/2008

My friends and I had heard of Crazy Cajun and were really excited to eat there. We waited 50 minutes to get our food because our waiter forgot to put our order in. Then when we got the food it was cold!!! When we asked to speak to the manager she refused to speak to us because she was drinking with other customers!!!!!! They offered to discount our meal and when we got the check it was for $85 and they only discounted $6. When we discussed this with the waiter all he would do is turn around and show us the back of his shirt which said ""service s_c_s"". He proceeded to call my friend a b_t_h!! I will never go to this restaurant again!! It was the worst experience at a restaurant that I have ever had. Pros: seated quickly Cons: terrible service and terrible food more

Crazy AND Cajun 11/23/2007

Authentic Cajun, cheap, great! I know cajun -- this is the best in town. Pros: Great food and good prices. Fast service. Cons: No liquor more

Best Cajun outside of LA 3/25/2007

Who cares about space for seating? Americans are generally too lazy and have a far too short attentiion span as it is, so it shoudl not matter if you have to wait 10 minutes to get in and then eat. This is the best Cajun food outside LA. Try the nana puddin. It has Heath Bar sprinkles on top! more

This is the place to eat crawfish in Birmingham. 12/21/2006

Boiled Crawfish are outstanding. Cajun dishes are pretty good. Very casual dining. Blue jeans, beer, and paper towels. Tough to get seated when crawfish are in season. Pros: Boiled crawfish, cold beer Cons: Tough to get seated more
