Lovin' it! Went here for my birthday dinner... amazing. From the greeting to the last drop of wine. The service and food was impeccable. I had this salad Grilled Portobello Salad ... let's just say it was good. And I also had this Croque Tomate soup that fantastic. Then for my main course I had the Grilled Pork Chops lets just say it was delicious. In the end... just the best birthday dinner ever!I really need to go back.\r \r Pros: friendly staff, ambiance more

I like it! 7/13/2008

I enjoy this place when I need to get away from my own place. Country Cafe is pretty much everything you want a local cafe to be. It's quiet, the service is very friendly, and the food is delicious. The atmosphere is also pretty unique. Like I said, a nice, quiet place that you can go on any afternoon to enjoy some coffee or delicious sandwich or you can try the goat cheese crouton, croque monsieur and roasted chilean sea bass in the evening. more

Amazing Service, Amazing Food, Shockingly Reasonable prices. 3/31/2008

I started loving the hostess even before we got there. We originally had a 7:30 PM reservation that I pushed back until 8:00 PM. We were still running late and I called at 8:00 PM to say we were still on our way. It was a rainy Friday evening, and the hostess was very gracious and said she would hold a table for us. Then she asked me to do her a favor. She asked me to take my time and be careful getting there because it was raining and she didn't want us to have any accidents. I really thought that was a nice touch and it truly sounded like sincere concern. Once we got there the quality of service didn't stop. No one hovered or rushed us, and yet they were always there when you needed them. It was cozy and quaint place and I found the other customers just as welcoming. We got into conversations with the surrounding tables and all of us were raving about the experience. \r \r As for the food... Everything we had was very well prepared. We actually had a hard time making our choices as everything sounded so tasty. We both went with fairly high end dishes and an upscale bottle of wine. We were looking to live large that evening and were very surprised when the bill came it was barely over $100 dollars. I should also mention that before they brought us the bill they treated us to some heart shaped sugar cookies and a round of port for us the table next to us. This is noteworthy because we were all enjoying ourselves so much we hadn?t even realized it was nearly midnight and we were the only ones left in the restaurant. And even then they never made us feel pressured to leave.\r \r Bottom line: I wish more places in NYC took a page out of the Country Cafe book on service. I plan on becoming a regular. Pros: Service, Service, Service, Food, and Value Cons: Too many people will probably start going now that I opened my mouth more

Fantastic Country French Food. 2/19/2008

I've dined at all the best French restaurants in NYC and Country Cafe is on par with the best, but at half the price with bigger portions. We made reservations, arrived on time and were seated promptly. Even though nearly every table in the restaurant was full and there were only two waiters working, we didn't feel like we were being underserved. Our appetizers were delicious, we ordered the mushroom casserole and a watercress salad - they were large enough to share between four people. We each ordered different entrees and they were cooked perfectly and were some of the best French food I've eaten in the city. We ended up sampling off each other plates and couldn't decide who had the best dish. If you are looking for stuffy pretentious and overpriced French food, this is not the place to go. However, if you are looking for good, tasty French food at great prices, in a warm inviting atmosphere, then you need to make a reservation.\r We're planning on making this one of our regular dining spots. We absolutely loved it!\r Pros: Excellently cooked food, with large portions. nice wine list - short but good. Cons: Needs wider selection of wines and non alcoholic drinks more

A Piece of France in Soho 5/19/2007

My wife and I went here on a recommendation from a friend and one Friday evening we arrived at Country Cafe. It was early so there were plenty of empty tables in this small little cozy bistro but by the time we left the place was getting crowded. The friendly waiter helped us pick some of their best dishes and we were very happy with our appetizers and dinner.\r \r A simple menu of classic French dishes, some with a Moroccan flair like the awesome Chicken Tangine. I had the Flank Steak au Roquefort which I highly recommend. Reasonable prices, great food, and friendly service make this local little bistro a GEM! We'll be back to check out their brunch on Saturdays or Sundays. My wife and I would like to keep this place a secret but we won't. Check it out!! Pros: Great food, cozy, good value, nice service Cons: a little small that's it. more

Our Valentine's restuarant 2/11/2007

I discovered the Country Cafe while looking for a place in NYC to eat a great Algerian Couscous. Haveing lived in francophone Europe the Couscous comes pretty close to the realy thing! But the Country Cafe has become a favorite of ours because of its cosy atmosphere and charming friendly service. It is a really cute Bistro. It is where I took my future wife on our first date and it is where we go every year on Valentine's day. It is where I take my visitng friends from Europe or France for lunch or dinner. more

Just what we needed 4/24/2006

My partner and I were shopping in SoHo when the overcast skies turned darker and soft showers threatened heavier ones. Our tummies were growling, too, so we decided to remedy two problems and ducked into this little cafe on Thompson, with its bright yellow windows beckoning and revealing a cozy interior. This was exactly what we needed! For $40, we got two lunch entrees, one side, attentive service, a smiling staff and two hot drinks kept warm with constant refills. One first bite from the bread basket encouraged us to tour the flavors of the other simple but flavorful cookies, biscuits and muffins. The last bite, as we cleaned our plates, left us mournful for more -- so we'll be back soon! Pros: Good food, fair prices, Cute & cozy, Friendly Cons: Small so may have to , wait; we didn't have , this problem, tho more

Friendly French 3/15/2006

My wife and I found this place years ago while living in NJ and working in NYC. We fell in love with the food and made it our special occasion restaurant. Since we have moved into Manhattan we can now enjoy it as often as we like and it has not lost it's luster. Our favorite appitizers are the delicious smoked eggplant with goat cheese on toasted croutons and the beet salad. I have had everyting on the menue and enjoyed it all. The steak is very tasty and the couscousotto is also a favorite with either chicken or shrimp. The kitchen has always accomodated any requests from my party. The servers Annalia and Allen are very friendly and helpful. We have never had anything but wonderful experiences here over the past 4 years. Pros: food, friendly staff, comfortable Cons: small more

one of the best christmas eve dinner 12/27/2004

The perfect combination between warm ambiance, outstanding service and amazing dinner. Congratulation to cheff and excellent service offered by ANALIA (the waitress) UNFORGETABLE Pros: excellent food, good price, friendly service more

Wow, what a treat 2/8/2004

I found this charming little French Bistro on Thompson St. in Soho. To my amazement, this is one of the only restaurants I have visited that Not only gives you an excellent Brunch, with eggs benedict,( one of the best I have ever had) but also with the waiter bring you a FREE basket of muffins, cookies and cakeAll this for about $12 dollars per person. The waitress showed me their lunch menus, which by the way is about the same price, but with French bento boxes. I was thrilled, I came back for dinner with some friends, I recommend the Snails garlic, Carpaccio is divine and Duck Confit, or the Coq au Vin, are perfection. And there, again like nowhere else we were offered a small Glass of port. What a find, thank you. Pros: Very raisonable, Great food, Bistro ambiance Cons: , Can get crowded, no parking more

Great Find 12/29/2003

I love this restaurant, the food is amazing, the prices are so reasonable, one can eat hear and still go shopping later. I wish that there were more Country Cafe's in other zip codes. Pros: Inexpensive, great food, friendly service Cons: Does get crowded, No parking, Small more

Not as great as the others have said! 11/22/2003

This resturant is overratted. Based on all the rave reveiws, I had expected services to be at least up to par. Not the case at all. Food ranged from decent to good. However, the service that was outrageous. I had to ask for a glass of water 4x and still didn't get it. Towards the end, my wine glass was collected because they ran out of wine glasses, & later didn't replace it. My waiter rarely checked on my table. Most upsetting is that an 18% tip is automatically added to the ck. when they deserve less then 10% (&that is already being generous), so I could not even demonstrate my displeasure my leaving a small tip. There was a total of three waiters, and all three of them were terrible. Not matter how good the food is, if the service is bad, then that will ruin one's expereince. Pros: atmosphere, large portions, intimate Cons: horrible service, crowded, noisy more

cute & tasty 11/10/2003

went here for brunch this past w/end - really enjoyed the food and the charm of the place. service wasn't the best (polite but very slow), but everything else was awesome. especially recommended for Frenchies who miss authentic French café fare: have the croque monsieur/madame here and you'll feel like you're back in paris. two thumbs up. Pros: pretty cheap, atmospheric, delicious more

$WORTH SPENDING 6/22/2003

I am lucky to live just above Country Cafe and I never get tired of the amazing food and wine selection. But, Ana Lia, the waitress is definetly a eason to keep on coming back, she has memoized all the likes and dislikes which makes this restaurant just an extension of my house... more

Mhhh! Delicious food! 11/29/2002

This is absolutely the cutest restaurant in Soho. The service is superb, the food is amazing with fantastic portions, they have a fine selections of wines too at great prices... I am amazed on how the deserts always impress me and their cappucinos are perfect! i don't have enough good things to say about this fun little niche ...... Pros: Great Value, FUN, Delicious home cookin more

A Hidden Classic 8/12/2002

Recently had a memorable meal at the Country Cafe having stumbled upon it whilst strolling through the streets of SOHO. Despite the late hour, the Service was impeccable - which was particularly impressive as on another table staff were having their patience tested by an obnoxious bunch from NYU. The food and overall experience was fantastic ... I'd recommend it to anyone ! Pros: Food, Service, Ambience more
