Use Someone Else - Very bad experience! 2/16/2011

I called Cothran's to get a new key made for my car. The dispatcher asked details about the car, including make, model and year. Based on that information, I was quoted a price which included two keys, as a second would be needed to program the first. When the locksmith got here, he was very courteous and friendly but took a long time and ended up calling a colleague about the programming part. He took so long in fact, that it was necessary for me to leave to pick my daughter up from school. He called me when he finished and agreed to meet me down the street at the school so I could pay him and receive the keys. When he gave me the bill, it was TWICE what I had been quoted over the phone. Since we were in the middle of the street conducting business, I (granted, stupidly) agreed to pay him the invoiced amount and call the office when I got home to take care of the discrepancy. I did call that afternoon, but was told the dispatch manager would call me the next day. In the meantime, we discovered that in order to make the keys the locksmith had trouble programming work, he removed a chip from my car, which disabled the automatic door opener. When I called his cell phone directly he agreed to come the next morning to correct it. I called the dispatch office to make sure that appointment was on the records. I waited in vain until 2:45 the next day for him only to learn that the dispatch manager had cancelled that appointment without letting me know. He also said that there was no way did his dispatcher could have quoted me the wrong price, and no way his locksmith removed a piece from my car, even when I offered to send him a photo. If at any time he would have said something to the effect of ""I'm really sorry for the misunderstanding and inconvenience, let's try to work something out,"" I probably would have just let it go. Instead, I got left with a car that only opens with the key, got called a liar, AND got to wait at home all day for a locksmith that was never going to show up. more

Don't Buy a Safe here 8/10/2009

Went to cothron's to get a safe for the second location of our coffee shop. Thought it would be easy, I just wanted to order the exact same safe I had for the first one. Not easy, because they do not keep records even though it was only a year ago we purchased the first one. Fine, got the info off the safe myself and even took a picture of the model number so there would be no confusion. The location at 51st said they didn't have it but they called the central location and they did. Good. Not so good, even with the model number they delivered the correct brand with the wrong model number, the safe was too short. Then one of the employees there said, what's the big deal, why don't I just buy the one on they had on the displayed on counter which seemed to be the same size as the one I wanted. Anyway that is what I ended up doing because they said they don't have the one I want in stock anymore. Ok, fine. So I need it delivered and installed (bolted to the floor) When the installers came they try to bolt it but the bolt broke half way down as they were installing and they told me even if it was bolted all they way someone could still pry it up. Ok so what's the point of bolting? Ok, fine, I have a safe, that is what I wanted. Now a week goes by and I get a call from someone at Cothron's to check on my experience. This was good, I explained my experience and got an apology and was told the owner would call me the next day too to hear my story. Never called, tried calling back the lady who called 4 times, voicemail only and the mailbox was full. Oh, it gets better, we open our store and start to use the safe and the safe doesn't fit our drawers like the one we have at our first location so the $500 for the safe and $70 for installation was for nothing. I am not a safe expert that is is why I went to Cothron's Safe. (Even though the exterior of the safe is the same size as what we had, the interior is not.) This is why I just wanted another one of what I already had. I will never go back to cothron's and I will keep telling everyone this story and advise them not to go there. Pros: 5 locations Cons: incompetent employees more

Dishonest Locksmith? oh goodie 11/25/2007

Terrible company. Dishonest and do not guarantee their work. I had two locks installed during the summer and one of them is almost impossible to unlock. It is the keyless lock and I use it every day. I was informed that I needed to call the MANUFACTURER of the lock as Cothran does not guarantee the materials they install. If I want a service call to determine the issue, it is $60.00!! I only paid $50.00 to have two locks installed! There was an unhappy event at the time they did the installations, but I thought that was just a glitch. Not so. They are not trustworthy, and for locksmiths, that's heavy duty. Go with someone who has a higher rating. Cons: dishonest . that about says it all more
