Editorial review from Citysearch 3/17/2013

My wife and I took our two boys (ages 2 & 5) to dinner at Coopers in Scranton. My wife got the boys kids meals of fried shrimp and French fries. The kids’ meals arrived before ours. \r The kids’ meals still had the tail on the shrimp so my wife and I both started taking the tails off the shrimp so our kids wouldn’t choke on them.\r The Shrimp burned our fingers because they were so incredibly hot. \r I complained to the server about how incredibly hot the kids’ meals were. She smirked and explained to me that seafood had to be cooked to a certain temperature. \r I explained to her that the food should also be served at a temperature that is safe to eat. If my 2 year old ate the food, he’d be in serious pain. The server started to laugh. She repeated her safe seafood temp logic and I asked to speak to the manager.\r The manager tried to suggest that the waitress was not laughing in disrespect but because she might have been nervous as if we don’t know the difference.\r I gave the manager more details to refute her suggestion but the manager again suggested the waitress laughed because she was nervous. I knew I was not getting anywhere.\r I would implore all parents to stay away from Coopers seafood house, especially if you don’t find toddler safety to be a laughing matter. more

Avoid eating here 9/27/2009

Great stuff hanging on the walls but lets face it, you go there to eat. Everyone is crammed into one dining room while others are empty. The wait staff was surly and we had to go find our waitress twice. The seafood is dry and greasy and one of our party had an unwashed plate while the other had a long hair in the scampi. We gave this place more than one chance because it is great to take visitors to an unusal resturant but they won't see us again. A good cleaning and new chef are needed. Pros: Atmosphere Cons: Cleanliness and comfort more

Terrible restaurant 11/5/2008

I recently visited Coopers Seafood House in Scranton. After a long wait on a Wednesday night, I finally got a table in the corner of the old room, which smelled like urine and was extremely warm. After 25 minutes and several servers passing our table, we finally called someone over to get our drink order. My husband ordered surf and turf rare and it came out welldone and the lobster was very salty. My chicken scampi was ok but it came over rice when I asked for pasta. Instead of waiting I ate most of the dish until I cut into the last piece which was raw in the middle!!!! Very dissapointing experience and will never go back. When the manager came to the table we were apologized to but nothing else was offered. more

Got to Get My Coopers Fix! 7/9/2008

I have to get my Coopers ""fix"" once a month! Coopers has by far the best seafood in town! I don't even like oysters but I gladly eat them here. The food is always cooked to perfection. They are so consistent . The appetizers are so varied and all so good that it is very difficult to decide, but try them all you won't be dissappointed. Everything on the menu is worth trying for that matter but my favorite is the crab bisque! The quality and taste are simply unsurpassed. The restaurant in Scranton has the most ambiance but I visit both of them all simply for the great food. If you like seafood this place will quickly become you favorite restaurant. I have a girlfriend that surprised her husband for his birthday by driving him to Scranton from Philly just so they could go to Cooper's for his bday dinner! That's how good this place is! Pros: Great seafood more

Cool Place To Eat 7/8/2008

A good place for lunch or dinner. We were visiting relatives in Old Forge for the 4th and decided to go to Coopers for something more than pizza. ( We ate a lot of pizza in Old Forge since it is the pizza capital of the world) The food was very good. I had a steak that was done perfectly and my husband had the ""Fishermans Platter"" that he liked as well. We were so happy about our experience that we returned several days later. My husband had the coconut shrimp and I had the Potroast. Again, we were both pleased with our selections. The service was good and the place was clean. Pros: Food Cons: None I can think of at this time. more

Our favorite stop to eat at. 7/8/2008

My wife and I travel from Canada to Florida each year and Cooper's is our favorite stop. The crab bisque, and coconut shrimp are our favorite appetizers and for a entree we always try something new. We have never been disappointed. The atmosphere and staff are top notch! 5 stars. Can't wait to go back. W&B Pros: Lots of parking, amazing food, good beer menu, clean Cons: sometimes there is a wait more

people are so we todd id 5/8/2008

people like you are always trying to get something for free. jeez..why cant you just cook for your self then. How can you say coopers here coopers there is bad...whats the difference. And HOW in the world could you tell someone ""I cant eat this food""...you know just appreciate what you get and be happy!!...there are some who cant have even half of what you have at coopers...so just chill out and if you dont like the food, then cook something yourselfn if you know so much about good food!!! more

Worst experience ever 4/30/2008

I went to the plains, Coopers and the food was not appealing at all; from one look I told the waitress that we would not be eating there. I don't know what I was expecting. All that I do know is that I was looking forward to the meal there because I had previosly been to the one in Scranton and the food was GREAT. I was very disappointed because I had taken a friend and I had been bragging all day about how good the food would be and low and behold because of time restraint we were never able to make it out to the one in Scranton. I will never go back to the Plains, Coopers ever agin. Pros: none, thumbs way down Cons: none, thumbs down more

Tacky place...but in a good way. 8/24/2007

I have been going here for over a decade and still like this place. I use to love it but I think they are starting to get too big for their own good. The quality of the food while still good isn?t near what it used to be. The service fluctuates between outstanding and bad. If you have a complaint about your food expect nothing more than a shrug of the shoulders and maybe a ?sorry?. That was all I got when I complained about my lobster that I needed a knife to cut it was so over cooked. Its saving grace is the ship?s pub, crab shack bar and the lighthouse bar. This place has four separate bars with the ship?s pub and the grill room (the original bar) being the best. This place takes tacky to the next level but in a good way. I now mainly go there for a few drinks and eat elsewhere. Pros: cool place to walk around in, great beer selection Cons: bad service and indifference more

This place is absolutly great 3/21/2007

Went to Coopers for the first time last friday night. We were a party of 10 and started our night out at the ships bar. The beer list is out of this world and the bartender was so well versed on the beers, he suggessted and let us sample a few of the drafts before we decided what to have.....Then we went back to the room with a huge replica of a blue whale hanging from the celing.......The server was so attentive, and the food was really good. Before we left we went up to see the new lighthouse bar. What a view and again good service......We will be back, and highly reccomend this restaurant to all our friends........We did have a short wait for dinner, but the time at the bar passed so quickly that we wish we could have stayed longer there! Pros: They even have a bathroom with Beatles pictures and music....cool Cons: can't think of one more

Headed downhill....fast. 3/2/2007

This place really was as great as everyone says. Recently, however, patrons are lucky if they get a lukewarm meal and an irritated server. The last time I was there, I was treated so horribly that I vowed to never go again. The same has happened to a handful of people I know. A damn shame. more

For the area..yes a safe choice 1/8/2007

on average, good experiences. Cool atmosphere, great bar and selection but if you repeat you will soon lose the wow factor. 2nd and 3rd time will prove one degree deteriorating satisfaction etc, etc. Good times and fun with friends but not amazing. Pros: good for gatherings, good for kids, good bar more

Love Coopers 11/16/2006

I like the review that says take a CamerA1 This place is really nice and I have to agree take a camera. We eat here all the time and take it for granite. The outside has a huge pirate ship docked against a lighthouse. The food is out of this world. The seafood was fresh and delightfull. The beer selection is huge. The atmosphere is so neat I can spend hours looking around the place. Service was prompt and friendly. Overall we give Coopers 5 stars! Pros: Great food, Amazing Atmosphere, Friendly Service. Did I mention Great food! Cons: Can have a long wait on the weekends. more

Great food, service 7/22/2006

This is a must. This place is a museum. Fun for family, or a special date. If you love beer, seafood and fun, this is the place to go. Bring a camera. Pros: Fun for the family more

Best restaurant in the area 2/14/2006

Have dined at this restaurant many times, and can find nothing wrong. The setting is very interesting, almost like a museum. The food is really good and reasonably priced. The only problem is that there is a wait on the weekends. Pros: ample parking, big beer selection, fresh seafood Cons: really busy, no reservations more

A good, safe bet 8/19/2005

Cooper's is a safe bet for a mixed group - though they focus on seafood, there's lots of ""regular"" items to pick from and the food is very good, though not outstanding. It is very consistent. The dining room's decorations are fascinating, though it can get quite loud, especially Saturday nights. They don't take reservations and lines can be a problem - they can be really picky when it comes to group seating. Some items are a little overpriced for Scranton and some food tends be a little on the salty side. Come on your birthday and get a free dinner (though they stopped giving out the great crab hats!) Pros: Good for groups, Good for kids, Consistent food Cons: Lines, Prices more

My Favorite Restaurant ""Love It"" 7/24/2005

Great restaurant! Super lunch & dinner menus, perfect any time you need a snack. Great outside bar, Cooper's Crab Shack. Pros: visually stimulating, food, fresh seafood more

Mrs. J 7/25/2004

Cooper's in Pittston PA is our family's ""special event"" place to have dinner. Since there are a lot of us, we go there often. They NEVER disappoint. Love the ambience. Our granddaughter loves finding the butterflies, etc. in the trees that decorate the back room. The decor is beautiful. The staff is extremely helpful and polite. The food is fabulous, especially the Lobster Bisque and seafood. They also offer lots of other choices if you're not a seafood lover. They offer a free birthday meal. Check out the ladies rest room to see a great collection of Hollywood photos and a cool collection of toothpaste tubes from around the world--it's quite unique. We highly recommend Cooper's. Weekends are packed but we only waited less than 15 minutes the last Friday we were there and we had 8 people in our party. Pros: Ambience, Wait Staff, Seafood Cons: , No benches outside more

WOW This place Rocks! 2/1/2004

One word describes Coopers to me - WOW! I absolutely love this place, There taps are always changing and always pouring something different. If you can;t find something on tap try one of there bottles (over 300!!) The atmosphere can not be beat with the huge pirate ship to the eclectic decor inside. The food is the best seafood I had anywhere. They even have a platter they serve in a giant boat! They also do seasonal beer dinners with a price per person of about 45 bucks!! You can not beat this place!! There bottle selection has recently grown bigger than before. There is now a Binder they present to you with over 200 additional beers. If sits at the bar so If you are at a table make sure you ask for it! Pros: Beers, Food, Everything! more
