I first approached Rick Pert with Colonial Tax Consultants over the issue that the IRS was garnishing a percentage of my monthly Social Security check due to outstanding tax liens. Rick was very cordial and professional in explaining procedures and possibilities to solve this problem. After paying a reasonable fee I was assigned Michelle Herrington to represent me. Michelle proceeded to work with me and the IRS to discontinue the deductions, which she was successful in doing. Michelle then continued on to pursue having two tax liens released according to the statue of limitations written into law by the IRS. Michelle was successful at having this accomplished also. I had an IRS debt issue for over twenty years. Over the years, the debt grew to over $50,000 and my payments did not even cover penalties and interest. I could make no headway on the principal and had multiple bank and payroll levies over the years. I found out about Colonial Tax Consultants through a Google search and bought their Offer In Compromise package with a release of levy addition to that basic package. The release of levy was initially the most important relief offered by CTC since I still had to be able to live while the OIC was being prepared. Beverly Medina was the associate assigned to my case. She is extremely professional and achieved phenomenal results. Beverly initially worked with the IRS to get my payroll levy removed. That was a huge relief and gave me some breathing room to get my paperwork in order to work on the OIC. Even though I had been told by the IRS and another attorney's office that an OIC would not be accepted because most of my expenses fell into a gray medical area, she made it happen. She stayed on top of things and reassured me when I panicked over IRS letters received throughout the process. She is diligent and hard working and made sure everything was processed as quickly as possible. When one of my payments wasn't applied correctly to my account by the IRS and I was notified that I was in violation of the OIC, she immediately contacted me to make sure I had back-up documentation and went to bat for me with them. I had several years of unfiled tax returns. Nothing motivates a person more than having an IRS officer at your front door, looking for their money! I wouldnt recommend anyone waiting that long to file. But thats hindsight. Not knowing who to turn to and frankly who to trust, I began researching varies tax resolution companies. It was my experience that some firms I encountered employed scare tactics, and many promised resolutions that I didnt qualify for. When I contacted Colonial Tax Consultants for the initial consultation I spoke with Rick Peart. I found him to be refreshingly different. Rather than reading a pitch to sell me a service. He asked me several questions to understand my situation. I respected his integrity and honestly upfront when he told me what resolutions didnt apply in my case but offered alternatives that were more appropriate for my situation. I also remember Rick saying relax, you have nothing to worry about, well take good care of you And they did just that. Their fee was quite affordable and I found Rick, Nate and Michelle to be friendly, courteous, competent and knowledgeable professionals. Nate Mirelez began working my case immediately filling all my returns and required documents. Far exceeding my expectations. Michelle Herrington negotiated on my behalf with the IRS an extremely satisfactory resolution. I couldnt have imagined a better outcome. Ive lived in Virginia for thirteen years doing business nationally, as well as locally. There came a time when I had some major tax issues, lingering after a divorce, with little understanding of, or experience with, the IRS. The common knowledge available to me was; they must not be trifled with or you will promptly face Armageddon; in any case, be prepared to receive aggressive treatment; and, therefore, find the best professional help you can. My lawyer referred me to two accounting firms with IRS experience. As it happened, Firm A needed cartons of records before they would devise a plan. That sounded reasonable to me at first, until six months went by and they kept asking for more, hard-to-find, historic information. I then consulted with Firm B. They told me that it was too late in the game for any serious negotiation with the IRS. I was worried, really worried. Fortunately, I shared my woes with an important business client (turned good friend) in Denver. He empathized and said he thought he knew from personal experience, the right professional for me and my situation, right downtown in Denver. I was introduced to Mrs. Beverly Medina at Colonial Tax Consultants, over the phone, and she took me on as a client. What a breath of fresh air! She knows the IRS inside-and-out and top-to-bottom. But she made me feel, always, that she was on my side of the desk, looking after my interests. She explained all that we had to do, every step of the way. She was totally honest about what outcomes we could realistically expect from different approaches we might take, including the nature and extent of any possible risk. And, as it turned out, she was right, every time. Of course, she also knew my financial situation and capabilities and, with Colonial, took all that into consideration when setting my fee schedule. In a short phrase, Medina and Colonial are totally professional. In my situation, the resolution came about after a process called, an Offer in Compromise. Thats perhaps, when I learned my greatest lessonhat contrary to the common wisdom, the IRS is much less an ogre than I was taught in my innocence. They do have their business model and their hurdles to leap, like most of the rest of us. But, when the offer is used appropriately their choices can narrow in favor of the client, sometimes considerably. And, I believe, they are pleased when that happens. Enter Mrs. Medina. My final result was shockingly better than I ever expected. Were I asked to evaluate Medina and Colonial on the most important issue of trust, with my financials, I would assign a measure of 10 on a scale of 10 to both. So, it wont surprise that I have no reservation about recommending them highly, to anyone, in any location, no matter the amount of money involved or the complexity of the situation.
