A world class shop in a small town setting! 12/31/2010

I love, love, love shopping at Classic Facets! I go to Boulder on business every few months and have been shopping at Classic Facets for over 10 years. The owner is a real sweet-heart with an amazing knowledge of antique jewelry and a great sense of humor. The shop always seems to have a new and different selection. I'm an admitted antique jewelry addict, and I travel for work, so I've checked out stores all over the US and even in Europe, but I just keep coming back to Classic Facets. They have an amazing selection and always seem happy to see me. Even when my budget doesn't allow me to buy they will always let me play and browse. When I've ever wanted a very specific piece, they have gone out of their way to find it for me, sometimes calling out of the blue months later to tell me that they found it! The service and selection are the best I've found and I always feel like I'm visiting friends when I walk into their shop! more

Best place to shop for jewelry 1/18/2010

This place is one of a kind and has a lot of amazing jewelry. My boyfriend and I had been bouncing around the idea of getting - gulp - engaged. I really wasn't feeling the whole diamond engagement ring look but I really had no other idea what was out there for us. Confession: It is not even a blood diamond thing. Truth be told, if I really loved the way diamond rings looked I would hire my own tribe of 7 year old kids to dig for a good one on my behalf. But diamond engagement rings don't do it for me. I barely ever notice if people have them on. I start talking non-diamonds and antiques. So my boyfriend suggests Classic Facets. I'm not sure what to think. I had never been in and I had the impression from the window displays that it was full of old-lady broaches. Boy was I wrong. This place is full of beautiful, one-of-a-kind jewelry of all types. Here's the other thing. These women are a riot. They are kooky and amusing and ridiculously helpful. I was honestly very nervous to be trying on engagement rings for the first time. I almost pucked a little in my mouth when we walked in the door. It is really exciting but also nerve-racking for the nontraditional, non-girly girl type. These women joined in our quest for a non-diamond and encouraged me to try on just about every ring in the store without smothering me to death. And I learned that you never really know whether you like a style until you see it on your finger. Well, I found a ring. An amazingly beautiful ring. A one-of-a-kind, 1950s antique, can't stop staring at my hand, compliments from strangers in bars, turns out I DO love engagement rings, ring. I never ever would have known that this is what I love. I needed their guidance, their massive variety of rings, and their no pressure attitude to make it all happen (and an awesome boyfriend). So he went back later to buy the ring, got the band changed from yellow gold to white gold and proposed to me (hells yeah!). After he proposed, he told me that he had the BEST experience with them all of the way through the purchase process. If you need any kind of jewelry or are thinking about getting engaged, I highly recommend Classic Facets. They have it all (including a wide selection of diamond rings). AND if they don't have it today, they may get it next week or next month. Forget about Kays and Tom Shay. Those places suck and these people know where it's at. Pros: One-of-a-kind selection, great service more

Art Deco 12/9/2009

What makes this Special is the fact I have searched high and low for a engagement ring from the 1920's. It's what my Fiancee wanted ever since she was a little girl. The staff instructed me on what was authentic for that period. After looking at 100 rings I finally found the right one. They put it in the smallest ring box I have ever seen that was in the shape of a heart. I was leery at first but she said this is guaranteed to make her cry when she sees the box. Sure enough she sobbed so much it was hard to hear the word ""YES"". Pros: Absolutely the largest selection of period jewelry in Colorado Cons: Your in Colorado more

Awesome Selection, Great Staff 10/9/2009

This place has the most incredible selection and everyone there is really nice. It seems that someone has a personal vendetta - I don't believe a word of the mean spirited review that was posted. Go there and see for yourself. Pros: great selection, knowledgeable & friendly staff more

Great store! 10/6/2009

I own a jewelry company in Sandy, Utah and I have known Mikki at Classic Facets for years through an industry organization. She is one of the most trusted individuals in our industry. I would recommend her store to anyone because of her high ethical standards and rare knowledge of antique and estate jewelry. Pros: Professional and knowledgeable more

Royal Rip-Off 5/5/2009

For years, Mikki Raney sold me jewelry that was not as described, at inflated prices that might possibly have been worth it if the jewelry had been what she claimed it to be, but which turned out to be a sickening waste of money. Among the things she sold me that turned out not to be what she described them as: Pros: None I can think of Cons: Over-priced and under-authentic more

My favorite store in Boulder 4/18/2009

This store should be located in Manhattan with an inventory like this!!! Great jewelry and knowledgeable and helpful staff. Check this place out for sure. Pros: Amazing selection of authentic antique jewelry more

Best Antique Jewelry store ever! 4/18/2009

This is my favorite store in Boulder! Super selection of rare and wonderful antique pieces. The staff knows both history and gemology. Highly recommend this store. Pros: Knowledgable staff, wonderful and unique pieces more

Incredibly helpful and patient 1/8/2009

I've only made one purchase here but went in probably 4 or 5 times before I put any money down. My fiancee and I were shopping for an engagement ring, modestly priced but with all the beauty an estate piece brings. My first trip in I was simply browsing, hoping that my dad would be able to locate my late mother's ring. Even though I made it clear I was ""just looking"" the woman working was incredibly helpful, and patient. She made a list of my favorites for me, just in case my mom's didn't turn up. After it became apparent my mother's wasn't going to surface my fiancee and I went in together. The sales woman immediately remembered me and what I was looking for. As we went through the selection together, the staff was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable about the materials, stones, cuts and design history of each piece. There were a few pieces we loved but wanted to mull it over before making any commitment so we left to look at a few more stores. After looking at several other stores we called to inquire about our favorite, and put it on hold. The best part? After purchasing the ring the shop owner had my fiancee get down on one knee to put the ring on my finger and told us she never tires of watching that expression of love. more

My favorite store 10/25/2008

I want to chime in with the other positive reviews. My husband and I used to live in Boulder and are only occasional customers when we visit Boulder. Mikki and Theresa would never sniff at a small purchase. Depending on where we were in our arc of children, college bills, jobs, etc. we have made very small (under $100), up to a few thousand dollar purchases. Each time we were treated with courtesy, given plenty of time to make our purchase, and our likes or dislikes respected. They are extremely knowlegable and stand behind what they sell. I would not consider needing to get veracity for gems because they have certified gemologists there! As an example of their excellent service, I once mentioned a charm my grandmother lost when I was small. Months later Theresa called me long distance to mention that they had one that may be like the one my grandmother lost. She held it for me until we visited the next summer. I've also mailed my antique jewelry to them for repair without any qualms and they do an expert job at reasonable prices. I would not trust anyone else with an irreplacable treasure. Pros: Quality merchandise, customer service, fun atmosphere, can try on items you could never afford Cons: Non! Only that there are so much choices it is hard to pick one. more

best vintage jewelry selection 10/2/2008

I think Classic Facets is a very well stocked retailer of amazing vintage jewelery. Not only do they carry a wide variety, from rings, brooches to necklaces, etc, the staff has an amazing amount of knowledge about the pieces and the stones within them. I highly reccomend Classic Facets if you are looking for a piece that is unique and beautiful. Hopefully, Mikki, the owner will be there to help you with your selection. She is wonderful! Pros: highly recommend. more

Fabulous collection of antique jewelry, friendly, knowledgeable staff 5/31/2008

I have been a customer for many years and keep going back because I have been impressed by the staff's knowledge of antique jewelry (especially Mikki and Theresa) and their patience with me as I stood paralyzed by indecision! They have a nice range of prices and styles (and free chocolate!) This is one of my favorite Boulder institutions! Pros: Fabulous collection, knowledgeable staff Cons: Open times seem limited more

ABOLUTELY THE BEST!! 9/28/2007

What a wonderful store. I absolutely fell in love with the atmposphere, jewelry and staff. The owner, Mikki, was so knowledgeable and accommodating. Before visiting the store I was not sure what to expect. I am now shocked at the comments. Who in their right mind would expect any business to risk losing a sale for 7 days to allow a person to consider a purchase? It's a business!! If you love vintage jewelry, you will love Classic Facets. more

TERRIBLE 7/2/2007

This place has inferior jewelry and MAJOR attitude. I told them I was shoping for a very specific kind of necklace for my wife and they proceeded to show me all kinds of other things that I wasn't interested in (and that happened to be very expensive). I politiely said no thanks. When she asked me how much I was looking to spend ($3.000) I told her and she practically sniffed at me and told me I would be better off shopping at other stores. AWFUL! Cons: Everything more

Horrible customer service and would not work with customer on expensive purchase. 6/27/2007

I was purchasing a very expensive antique estate ring from them. I had worked with them for 4 days, set up a 2nd appraisal, and was ready to buy the ring but they would not hold the ring for 7 days while I visit my new family in a different state. They would not because the OWNER said if I didn't put down the NON REFUNDABLE 1/3 of the ring amount deposit, it was going on the shelf. In a sense, making my buy the ring no matter what if I wanted it or not. BUT, it's a con-consignment shop which they would not call the owner to see if they could hold the ring for 7 days more OR negotiate the price! I asked so don't try the owner and reps said that they don't do that for the original owners! Come to find out, the ring was not an antique, just the diamond. Go figure with something else going wrong with this purchase. Rep informed me the setting was brand new and she was mis-informing me before hand and what I thought was a antique was false. I still wanted the ring even with all the difficulties already. I then informed the rep my mom was on the only one that had to see it and give me her opinion. But the rep rudely ask, ""why do you need her opinion if you want it?"" Appalled from the notion she would even ask why I would want my mother to look at the ring. I told her, ""because it's my mom and a women's opinion on something very important in my life and for my future wife."" We kept going on and on but they would not budge or cared after TWO reps started talking to me. I walked out eventually. But, because of my walk out, I went to HURDLE'S Jewelry, GREAT service, the owner is incredible, and he helped me find the perfect ring. I will discuss my experience in depth if anyone needs my help but another lady has told me she had the same experience. So, watch this diamond store and make sure you get your jewelry appraised by an outside source because their employees are not valid sources of information on something you hope to pass to your children. Pros: NONE!!! Cons: Mis-informed, reps gave false information, Poor customer service more
