One of the best restaurants I've been to 8/29/2008

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary there recently. The atmosphere was elegant. The waiter was knowledgeable about the menu and very friendly. The food was amazing! We ordered the fried cuttlefish as our appetizer. It was soft and tender and the batter was not too thick. For the main, we ordered the filet mignon. It was one of the best steaks I've ever had. It came with mashed purple potatoes, which was absolutely delicious! Pros: Delicious food. Great atmosphere. Cons: A little pricey. more

Special event 6/30/2008

I recently hosted a rather large reception and dinner for our extended family and friends. I was originally going to to do this at home but decided to let the professionals do it instead. I was referred to Joey at City Grill by a colleague that I work with. I called Joey and explained what I was doing and he basically took it from there. He gave me a proposal for the menu and reassured me that all of the details would be taken care of and they were! I sent a deposit and just a few phone calls between us, no worries! My guests were totally Wowed by the elegance of the restaurant and the food and service were stellar. So, if you are planning to host a special event don't do it yourself, call Joey! Pros: Using a Sales Manager to take care of the details Cons: Getting everyone to go downtown more

New favorite lunch spot 7/29/2007

I went in for lunch the other day to break the burger addiction. At first, the room is a bit intimidating compared to Burger King, but the smell from the wood grill welcomes you and as you settle into your seat you can almost imagine another world of sophistication(I recomend requesting the balcony for power lunches). Sergio was my waiter. He recomended the Tuna Nicoise and to my suprise I was able to enjoy my lunch and still make it back to work within my break(about 35 min). I did not have anything from the bar, but the wine list was presented and a wine pairing was offered. I did not need parking(I walked), but was offered validation in the adjacent deck. The only con would be the lemonade was a bit too sweet for my meal. Pros: great for lunch Cons: hard to read signage more

City Grill 6/29/2007

My husband took me to dinner there recently and we had a wonderful evening! We got engaged there a while back and the server remembered us! He selected wines for us paired with our appetizers and entrees and wow! was it good! We asked for some information about their private rooms and we were offered a tour and now are planning a dinner for my husband's company. This is a very special place! Pros: professional and friendly service more

Corporate Reception 6/26/2007

My colleagues and I recently went to City Grill for a company dinner/reception in one of their private areas and all 60 of us were thoroughly impressed! The place was pretty crowded so I was somewhat hesitant about my very high expectations for this many people. Well, I did not need to worry a bit! Service was right on the money, drinks were refilled quickly and the appetizers were hot and tasty. Once we started the dinner the servers did not miss a beat. We had a 3 course dinner that was timed just right and the food was excellent. I usually dread dining with this many people but all of us are still talking about how much of a good time we had. I will definitely go back again! Pros: Private dining areas, beautiful decor, old world elegance Cons: Traffic during a convention more

One of the best around! 6/2/2007

I just love City Grill! It has old world glamour not found in too many of the ""hip"" places around town. Luckily, I get to go there often with my company for private dinners and luncheons. The staff is always attentive and the food is always top notch. I am actually going to have my wedding reception there in the fall. My fiancee did not want to even look anywhere else! I enjoy the quiet elegance and the personal service. More Atlantans should head downtown and check it out! Pros: Attentive service, ambience, wine list Cons: Parking options other than valet more

Worst restaurant in Atlanta 4/28/2007

Wedding anniversary (05/16/06) and it was the worst food, the worst service and the nastied restaurant we have ever experienced. Was seated at chair that had broken leg, and had to locate waiter for replacement. Waiter placed chair over her head and sit it down without checking and walked away; the leather was in'shreds'. 2nd waiter was never available, had to request everything starting with service, even though there were only 3 tables of customers. Waiter knew nothing about the food. I wished we had known this before we spent $200. Unfortunately, We would NOT recommend this restaurant to ANYONE. Attempted many days to reach owner/manager (same as Dailey's) and she would never speak with me..some customer service? Cons: worst food, service, cleanliness more

The Worst ""Restaurant"" in the US 4/22/2007

Visited ""city grill"" last night (Saturday) and still can't get the taste out of my mouth. When you first walk in, impressive. The location is beautiful, no doubt but it all ends there. You should know if a restaurant is empty on a Saturday night at 8pm....there's a problem. I did love the bartender and our waiter but that does not make up for nauseating food. I'm not making this up, you could not eat the appetizer, entree...nothing. The short ribs were just a fat log that tasted like spoiled meat. My steak would never have been served at The Sizzler and my wife's lobster and shrimp were brown and looked like fake rubber food. We ate one bite of each serving and sent it back. The crab bisque soup...spoiled white fish pieces in heavy cream. more

Superb Dining Experience 4/12/2006

It was wonderful to go back to a restaurant and find the same great food and service. The grand dining room is impressive, the cuisine was refreshing and the service attentive. Wondeful meal and sucessful meeting. I'll be going back again. more

Atrocious 2/11/2006

Simply put I cannot imagine how anyone, other than employees ofthis place, would ever even imagine this was fine dining or in any way shape form anything better than an overpriced fernbar. How it has won any awards at all baffles me and makes me question the value of these awards. The service was slow, and ignorant of manners. We were greeted with the ""chefs special foh 60 bucks!"". The quail appetizer was greasy and tough, inedible. The overpriced endive salad consisted of 4 bits of endive scattered with field greens and ONE bruised grape tomato sliced into quarters, accompanied by an extremely salty thin dressing. My rib-eye was thin, tough, and smothered in a scorched, overbearing sauce. My dates New York strip was equally tough, and soaking in the same scorched sauce. Somehow the ""chef"" confused capers with whole black pepper corns. This place is an unmitigated disaster for a fine dining restaurant. more

Average Meal Service for too much money 12/20/2005

Too much hype for a mediocre establishment. Food blah, service blah. blah, blah..... more

Don't believe the hype! 8/22/2005

Our dinner club dined during Restaurant Week and we were in for a rude awakening! Despite having reservations, we were seated 25 min. late and then sat for 20 min. before we were given water; we had to ask for our server! It was a fixed 3-course menu but all the food was served late, bland and lukewarm. The fillet of beef w/red wine reduction was overcooked, the horseradish mashed potatoes were plain and the spinach was terrible. The chocolate pate was rich but bittersweet and the 3-berry shortcake only had raspberries. Our server never checked on us or inquired about the food. The service was sloppy - I actually got hit with my plate as it was taken away! We didnt even linger over dessert talking; we were ready to leave. Overall, it was a HUGE disappointment! The decor is beautiful but save your money and go somewhere else! Pros: ambience, decor Cons: poor service, mediocre food more

Great for a business dinner 5/25/2005

The look and feel of this restaurant is very impressive. You should visit a restaurant like this expecting to enjoy a lengthy meal. My colleagues and I enjoyed the tasting menu paired with wines and appreciated the attentiveness of the staff (not suffocating but still quick to please). We were in town for a convention and it was busy for a Monday night. Pros: Tasting menu, Attentive service more

Perfect for special occasions 3/27/2004

We came here after my now fiancee proposed. It was perfect. Romantic ambiance, excellent service & delicious food & wine. I love what they did to the old Fed Reserve building! more

Wonderful Experience 11/21/2003

I recently had an opportunity to dine at City Grill in downtown Atlanta. I ordered the crab cake appetizer and the skate wing served with parsnip puree as an entrée. Both were exceptional! I recommend it as my first choice for an evening with friends and family. From the congenial hostess to the top-notch service and savory entrees, this dining experience rates among the best. Pros: best service, value more

Worst ATL Restaurant Experience 8/11/2003

Major disappointment would be an understatement for my dining experience. I can not believe all of the awards this restaurant has received. From the bartender that could barely pour a glass of wine after I had to tell him several times which vinyard we needed and then pouring it in a lipstick covered glass, to ordering three rare steaks and receiving them all cooked at different temps that would not pass for medium, to ordering the NY Style Cheese Cake just to get a flourless chocolate torte, we think, still a mystery actually. Table maintanece was a huge bust and drinks took for ever. The most positive part of dinner was admiring the beautiful building and decor, however even that was over shadowed by the techno mucic being played on a Sunday evening before it was even dark outside. All in all, a huge waist of time and money. Pros: My Dinner Party Cons: Everything Else more
