great service, food subpar 12/17/2007

very courteous, friendly, and somewhat attentive staff, but the food was pedestrian at best. Pros: friendly, comfortable, including bathroom Cons: distracting cordoned off side area, food lacked originality, flavor, was overcooked and dry more

Loved It. 12/13/2007

I had a wonderful experience at Citron. A few friends and I dropped in 10 minutes before they closed for Sunday brunch, which isn't the best way to start off a nice meal. But, our server was very welcoming, reassuring, and totally adorable. I had the falafel with a trio of salads... it was divine. I didn't sample the others' plates as I do not partake of meat, but they were all very impressed. The prices seemed very cheap for the quality of food and service we received. I highly recommend it. Pros: Great server, great meal, great price, great neighborhood. Cons: Nothing. more

Beautiful but disapointing 12/11/2007

We went to Citron for a special occassion, in the spirit of looking for new places in the East Bay, rather than going to SF for birthdays, etc. more

best Sunday brunch 2/20/2007

We had Sunday brunch with a party of 3. The place lives up to its charm. We had Omelets: Three Egg Omelet with Fresh Fruit and Grilled Baguette with Wild Mushrooms, Caramelized Onion and Fresh Chevre,Poached Loch Duart Salmon Eggs Benedict, and Gnocchi di Patate. The food was very tasty, fresh ingrediants, perfect portions, delicious and flavorful. Definitely will come back to this Rockeridge charm and jewel! more

food is excellent, though admittedly expensive 12/2/2005

I've been to Citron twice and loved the food both times. Most recently, I had a duck confit soup, gnocchi, and chocolate torte (prix fixe menu for $30). The soup and gnocchi were excellent. The ingredients are very fresh and the flavors pure but flavorful. However, the chocolate torte was too sweet and rich. The prix fixe is a great deal, but the a la carte entrees were $20-30, which seems expensive for Rockridge. Service was OK, not great. The server was knowledgeable but it seemed that he wanted to upsell us on everything. Why offer a prix fixe if you don't want people to order it? Despite the prices, this is the kind of place you will feel comfortable in both nice jeans and business casual-type clothes. Also, it is quiet enough for conversation. Pros: food quality, location Cons: expensive more

Great food, inattentive service 9/11/2005

We recently dropped in to Citron on a Friday night. They weren't terribly busy, though they filled up about 30-45 minutes after we arrived. The food was very good, but the service was unbearably slow even though we mentioned that we needed to get out somewhat quickly. Water didn't get refilled promptly. We asked for the check during our entrees to emphasize our need to get going and the server didn't come back to pick it up for 10 minutes! Pros: food Cons: service more

$$$$ 8/29/2004

I titled this $$$$ because Citron doesnt seem to care about its patrons, patrons, patrons, patrons. This is a restaurant where people go if they want to spend money for a marginal experience. Food was marginal for the price. The entrees are priced at a 3-4 star level but the food is most certainly only 2 star. The service was a 1 star. I was dying for another glass of wine with my entree, a nice pinot with the bland salmon but the waitress had other things to do. more

Worse Value, Limited Menu Selection 4/5/2003

Bottomline- Citron was way overpriced for the type and quality of food it served!!!! My $26 pork tenderloin entree was overcooked, and the pasta stucked together. My girlfriend's 3 course prix fixe course served: one piece of monkfish tail about the size of a half dollar coin, steak entree that was 2 very thin slices of beef that was combined about the size a one dollar bill (no side vegetables), and angel cake that tasted like slice toast with strawberrys. For the price that we paid, Gary Danko would have been a better value... so not worth it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In addition, the service was ridiculously slow. We were a party of four and the entire meal took 2 hrs and 45 minutes. We had to WAIT about 45 minutes in between EACH course. (we had 3 courses). Pros: good ambiancehttps:// Cons: Bad Value, Poor quality of food, Limited Selection more

Disappointing 3/23/2003

I've heard good things about Citron, so we went there for my birthday. There were 3 of us. We had ahi, sweetbread, tapas style appitizer, NY steak and romain salad w/ prawns. The ahi was decent. sweetbread was over cooked and tough. Tapas appitizer came w/ a bit of everything --decent but nothing special. Steak had nice flavor, but not exceptional. Prawns had good smoky flavor, but they were overcooked and dry. Dessert was pretty good and cheese plate was decent. Service was not very refined, i.e, they put my plate in front of someone else, also for the Tapas appitizer, waitress pointed at each item on my plate with her finger almost touching them to explain to me what they were. Overall, it wasn't a bad meal, but it was not great, and for the price they charge they really needs to be better. Pros: Convenient Rockridge Cons: Average food, High prices, Not so great service more

Whoops 2/2/2003

Fond memories couldn't rescue the average entrees at higher than average prices. My $12 squab appetizer arrived *without* the fois gras and the staff didn't bother to replate it... Citron missed the mark for us and didn't deliver the value in service or taste sensation. Deadly when there are plenty of alternatives that do... Pros: Low bar in East Bay, Convenient for Rock-, Ridge Residents more

Nice work 11/5/2002

I like this place a lot. The place offers great food choices and also a great prefix which is pretty affordable. I also like the fact that you can go and grab a drink next door at A'cote and wait if they are busy. Nice work Pros: wine, food, location more

Go next door! 9/21/2002

A limited menu can be fine if the dishes are special and the execution is suberb. Our meal was ordinary and DEFINITELY not worth anywhere close to the price. The service was polite. Still, I have had many better meals consistently at A Cote (next door). If you are looking for an expensive and very nice meal in the area go to Garibaldi's or Marica's (though it is not really expensive) just down the street. more

Really good food 9/11/2002

The food here was great! A little pricy, but you definitely get what you pay for. They service was okay, but a bit too stuffy and formal for my tastes more

Love Rockridge 6/13/2002

This place rocks. It is small and intimate with a very nice comfortable feel. I have not hada bad meal there yet and never leave feeling like I was taken. Unlike Olivetos where I always feel ripped off. I recomend you ask for Chris and get him to help out with the wine selection. Pros: Great prefix, desert, wines more
