I've always enjoyed Citrus Grill. They have a range of different items, each equally delicious. I especially like the choice of sizes in many items (petite and hearty). This way I...

I used to be a huge fan of the Citris Grill on 33rd South. The food was great and the service was always friendly, if not perfectly polished. However, over the past year, everyt...

Too expensive for the portion size! 12/7/2007

Ok lets set the scene. Friday afternoon on a rainy/snowy day. It's just after the lunch rush. Got the idea. I've driven by the place a few times and wasn't quite sure what to expect. Then I read the reviews here on CitySearch . Thought ""What the heck, I'm up for something new"". Arrived and was told that it would be about 5 min. Not to bad. It seemed like a very casual environment. The host was in jeans and a hoodie. A little less to be desired for as nice of a place as most have reviewed. They had some very interesting framed picture/photographs to look at. After we were seated and given menus our waitress arrived and asked for our drink prefferences. Scary looking waitress, tatoos and piercings all over. We asked for a few moments to look over the menu since it was our first time there. The waitress didn't even stick around long enough for me to ask what was good or what specials there were for the day. As we looked over the menu it we very interesting. Classic bestro dishes but with some interesting variations on the ingredents. I went with the Butternut Squash pasta dish and I don't remember what the others ordered (neither did they, shows how impressed they were). I had read that there would be some large portions, so we all came ready to eat and share our dishes. We all ordered their hearty portions. HA, what a joke! I don't know if it was their hearty LUNCH portion but there was not even enough for everyone to get to try everything. Every portion was very small, I thought that maybe the waitress had just misheard us (yeah it's that noisy), but when we were brought our check we had been charged for the hearty portion. If I ever want to be charged for a hearty pasta meal I'll go to the Olive Garden and get their never-ending pasta bowl. Even then it wouldn't cost as much as our meal did. Never again will I venture to the Citris Grill! I'd say it would be a great college romp; Loud, Hip, Up Beat, but it is too expensive for a college budget! Pros: Interesting twist on Classic bestro menus Cons: Portion size, staffing credibility, small cramped dinnig area more

It's okay 7/6/2007

We wanted a change from the usual family style diners (Applebee's, Chili's) so we tried this place before the arts festival on a hot summer day. Because of the open kitchen, the air was a little muggy and warm. Our food was all pretty good and the prices were surprisingly low. Among the three of us, we had a pizza (your average pizza), the chicken dish (great seasonings!) and the southwest wrap (pretty good as well). The table and menus seemed dirty and sticky - could've been from the humidity. There is no ambience to speak of. Glad I tried it but I doubt I'll return soon. Pros: inexpensive, tasty food Cons: humid, lacking ambience more

Great food and friendly service 2/16/2007

I decided to take a chance on the Citris Grill after receiving a gift certificate as a present. I read the reviews on Citysearch and so was a bit concerned about the service. I went to the Citris Grill with two friends on a Friday evening. It was busy, but not crazy. The hostess estimated our wait would be about 25 minutes, but it didn't take that long for us to get a table. As we walked to our seats, I looked at the food on the other tables. Everything looked really good! We ordered the spinach-artichoke dip and lettuce wraps as appetizers. They were both very tasty. The multi-colored chips with the spinach dip were fresh and tasty! Even the petite portion was plenty! I was expecting a chowder-like, cream-based soup when I ordered the chicken-tortilla soup, but it turned out to be broth-based with chunks of chicken and crispy tortilla strips on top. It was unexpected and delicious. The grilled cheese of the day was smoked gouda with apple slices. It was also a bit unusual, but I would DEFINITELY order it again! Overall, we had a great time. Everyone enjoyed their dishes and we will return to the Citris Grill again and again. It's hard to think of another place with such interesting food choices, nice surprises and reasonable prices. Pros: Service was friendly and prompt, Ambience with friendly (a bit noisy), Food was great! Cons: Parking situation is less than optimal (especially because of the close proximity of several restaurants in a small strip mall) more

My favorite place to eat... lately. 12/11/2006

I love the food here. It?s been less than consistent a couple times but I?ve been a lot and for the most part it is really quite good. One thing I really appreciate is the petite portions being available. Most restaurants present you with far more food than you need and don?t offer you another option. The petite portions are the perfect amount of food. I?ve never had anything there I?ve been disappointed with. The spinach artichoke dip is amazing and the calamari is another good choice. \r \r The service however, is typically pretty bad. Not terrible, or rude, just not very good at all. I don?t mind too much as I don?t like to chat with my server but they could stand a little more training. \r \r Overall it?s a win in my book. \r more

So so 12/10/2006

The other reviewers here seem to surmise the bad and good of Citris Grill pretty well. It is a very h it and miss place.\r \r We have been on many occasions as somewhere to grab a quick bite to eat. At the weekends the place is packed to the rafters with queues stretching out the door on one summer evening. Midweek it is usually pretty easy to walk straight in and be seated straight away. \r \r The restaurant is a little trendy but more casual than anything else. It can get quite noisy on a busy evening. The kitchen is open to the dining room and can contribute to the general feeling of chaos on busier nights.\r \r The menu features salads, pizzas, sandwhiches, steaks and so forth. I think the underlying theme maybe a little southwestern. It doesn't feel very cohesive though. More so what the head chef felt like throwing on the menu at time of printing. \r \r Some of the main entree plates are confusingly labelled as large and small. This invariably leads diners to ask excatly how big and how small. This is just one of a few little quirks from dining at Citris Grill.\r \r In addition to the main menu they also offer a variety of daily specials, some particularly good. Just recently I had a halibut tostada with pear salsa. Extremely tasty, great price and perfect portion size. If everything on the menu was of such a high standard I would rate much higher. \r \r I would say Citris Grill is worth a visit once or twice. Try to avoid the busy times and don't go there in a rush. Don't forget the daily specials and have a peek at what everyone else is eating before you order. Pros: Some good food, decent prices Cons: Busy, noisy more

Try the Southwest Wrap 7/24/2006

I get the southwest wrap & citris salad and always have a good experience. My husband has been disappointed with a burned burger and a few other things but I always enjoy my wrap. Service is spotty but usually pretty good. Hostesses seat in a strange pattern - we always get the worst table, I swear, so we get up and move. Pros: Pretty good food if you order the right thing Cons: Seating is strange more

A Great Disappointment 7/14/2006

I read the reviews and was excited to try it, but I was sorely disappointed. Yes, we were seated immediately but without silverware, napkins, or enough menus--particularly children's menus. It is not kid friendly as they do not provide anything for the kids to do while waiting for the food, and since it was a tremendously long wait the kids got very bored. The menu is very limited, if you don't like corn or beans, your choices are almost nil. While I understand Saturday nights are very busy, I still should be able to get a straw with my drink and not have to ask for it to be filled, only to have the request honored 2 minutes before we leave, not to mention the extended wait for our bill and to get our credit card back; the service needs help. Beware the fries! They are encrusted in chili pepper. A smattering is great, a truckload is too much. I would definitely stay away if you are taking children, and I wouldn't go back because the name defies the lack of choices and poor service. To their credit, I did really like the spinach and artichoke dip. Pros: spinach artichoke dip Cons: almost everything else more

love it! 2/13/2006

My husbnd and I love this place! They make amazing steak, along with everything else. I love the 2 portion choices as well. We can even bring our baby and she has a great time. Pros: great food, good value Cons: parking more

My new favorite restaurant!!!! 6/9/2005

Fabulous food, fabulous service, fabulous drinks and fabulous atmosphere. We've never been disappointed at Citrus Grill. We've even taken friends and family from out-of-town and they still rave about how great the food was. The grilled cheese of the day is wonderful. Highly recommended! Pros: Open every day, affordable more

Go Thursday 5/27/2005

We just went last night, probably the 3rd time I've been since their opening. I have to say I've never had rude service there, in response to the other review. Not only did we chat up our wait staff, but the local musician on a break from his set. Thursday nights are great due to the entertainment factor, but it's a nice spot any night. Full bar, good food, and they do speak English with a smile. Pros: Full bar, Pizzas, Live music Cons: Strip mall location, Calimari appetizer more

To bad the Service Sucks 5/8/2005

I was so excited to try the Citris Grill and when I arrived it took 15 minuites to be greated. Then after sitting down, I was shocked to meet one of the most unhappy people in my life, which I came to terms that she must not speak any english because she didn't say more than one word to us (let me clairify, she clearly spoke english, but not to us.) Then with only 20 tables in the restraunt and 5 servers, it was like chickens running around with there heads cut off. Oh did I mention that the food was wonderful, but I forgot that part because I was so caught up in the horrible enegry within the place. I recommend if you want there food GET IT TO GO!! more
