Best Steakhouse in Queens! 3/8/2011

Listen up kids...If you can't make it to S&W or Sparks steakhouse don't sweat it. Stay in Queens and enjoy the absolutely delicious steak, appetizers this spot has to offer. Prices are up there in the Manhattan range but well worth every penny (Plus you don't have to pay the toll and $35 parking fee)\r \r Valet parking, safe and convenient neighborhood and relatively close to the city. Not cheap and it is not really a traditional steakhouse in the sense that the sides are Greekie (for lack of another word). I wish they offered the home fries but their lobster mashed potatoes were very nice.\r \r Great rooms, nicely decorated, very formal wait staff and delicious steaks which I have to add, the pretties porterhouse I ever had! more

no need to head into the city 5/7/2009

always a classy quality meal....steaks that rival anything in manhattan(honestly) and the lobster mashed potatoes are amazing.....there's a also a delicious bibb salad with walnuts.....it's pricey but for a special occasion i highly recommend it....great martinis at the bar too more

Delicious Steaks 4/7/2009

I got a mailing for Christos and even though it is a long walk from my apartment, I love steak so I had to try it. It is amazing, if a bit expensive. But for special occassions, you can't beat it. The steaks are aged to perfection and always delicious. My boyfriend and I almost always order the porterhouse for two and it always comes to the table perfectly cooked! I have also had the filet mignon and that is delicious too. The wine list is very nice with something for everyone across all price ranges. Since the sides are a la carte, it can get a bit pricey, but it is always good food and you can't go wrong. Pros: Great food with a nice wine list more

Eh 8/18/2008

Went to Christos on a Saturday recently and I wasn't very impressed, nor were the 5 people I was with. None of the items were particularly bad but there was nothing extraordinary either (save for the delicious lobster mashed potatoes that were offered as a special. \r \r I ordered the signature Porterhouse for 3 and can't really say much about it except they meat wasn't flavored in any way that stuck out and just didn't impress me. The creamed spinach and asparagus we had as sides were below average in flavor and texture. We did enjoy a Greek dip sampler we got as an appetizer and the aforementioned lobster mashed potatoes. Lastly, the wine selection was extremely weak.\r \r See my other reviews for better steakhouse options.\r Pros: Garlic mashed potatoes, greek dip sampler Cons: Terrible wine list, weak ambiance and appetizers and average steak more

Best Restaurant in Astoria! 4/21/2008

I've been to Christos a few times now and I've loved it everytime. I tried it out when I first moved to NYC because I live extremely close by. The staff was incredibly nice and they even gave me a welcome-to -the-neighborhood surprise dessert which was AMAZING. The dessert was a chocolate cake with a melted center and I have had similar ""volcano"" cakes in other restaurants but this one was by far the best! The interior is beautiful and the ambiance is great, nice for a romantic date or even just dinner with the family. Great wine list and seafood. Try the fillo-wrapped oysters, they are my favorite! Now as for the steaks, they are beyond comparison. Excellent cuts cooked perfectly. Tenderloin is the only beef I will eat and I am very picky about it being overcooked. I will send it back without hesitation even if it is medium rare instead of rare but Christos always does it right and the steak is so delicious that you do not need a drop of the sauces available, which is how it should be! My Father is an expert on filet and this is his first stop every time he comes to visit Astoria! Try the Greek wines, the staff is knowledgeable and gave us excellent recommendations. The prices are not low, but this is a steakhouse so don't expect it to be cheap. \r As far as the location, it is a few blocks from the train but if you take a car it is only a few dollars from the train and the neighborhood is nice and very safe. If you do some research, you will find that there are a lot of neat bars and lounges nearby. Also, the outdoor seating is very nice and you always feel as if you have privacy. Large groups work surprisingly well here, but I wouldn't bring any children. \r I will continue to have dinner here for any occasion I can come up with as long as I live in NYC!! Pros: Great Seafood, Extensive Wine List, Outdoor seating in warm weather Cons: NONE!! more

Great Steak and Worth The Detour 6/22/2007

A super delicious steak, one of the best in New York. The lobster mashed potatoes are sensational too. Everything arrived promptly and at the proper temperature. The staff is friendly, the room has a pleasant decor, and it buzzes with happy, enthusiastic diners. Christos is a topnotch neighborhood place serving food that competes with anything in Manhattan. A real find. Only in New York. (If you don't own a car or don't like the subway, take a cab.) Pros: Go and enjoy Cons: Your cardiologist will not approve more

Fantastic! 6/7/2007

I am surprised to see negative reviews here. Sure, the restaurant may be off the beaten path but they do have Valet Parking, that's a PLUS!! I have been to many steak houses all over the city...the best of the best & I think Christos' is right up there. You can't go wrong with a steak or lobster here and the potato gratin is just scrumptious! The shellfish tower....fantastic! The oysters & shrimp cocktail are some of the best I've ever had! Very Fresh & the temperature is just perfect! The waiters are super friendly, attentive & knowledgeable, they make you feel like you are the only table, which can be a rarity in the city. I've had nothing but great experiences the numerous times I've been here. Oh, one CON: Watch the King Crab Appetizer $$$$ / BONUS - In the summer they have outdoor seating in the front & on the side of the restaurant....there are nice bushes to block of the foot traffic which also provides just the right amount of privacy from the pedestrians. I say give it a shot! Pros: Friendly Staff...Fantastic Food....Nice Ambience Cons: Watch the Specials $$$$ more

GREAT steak, TERRIBLE location 4/2/2007

Christo's is trying to sell itself as a major league steakhouse. Their meat is worthy of this attempt, but thats about it. The location is going to be their undoing. No parking, no highway access, too long a walk from the subway and absolutely NOTHING else to do around it. The ambience is nice, but nothing special. The bar staff has no idea what they are doing. The waitstaff is FAR below NYC steakhouse quality and the prices are on par with some of New York's best. I STRESS AGAIN, the steaks are GREAT. I really wanted to like this place, but simply put Christo's is a fish out of water. Best of luck to you guys, I hope you prove me wrong, but I don't see them making it to 2008. Pros: GREAT Steak Cons: Nothing else good to say about this place more

Great meal 1/21/2006

Four of us ate here and all had an enjoyable and delicious meal. We ordered the lamb, ribeye (a bit fatty but very juicy), t-bone, and filet mignon and everyone's dish was cooked just right and very tasty. The Greek way of seasoning--olive oil and oregano--is decilious and flavorful, and a nice departure from other steakhouses. The creamed spinach was thankfully not over-the top creamy and the calamari was crispy and juicty. Waiters were very attentive. Nice winelist. Desserts were good, not amazing, but we were so stuffed and satisfied we didn't really notice. And the ambience is suprisingly nice for a steakhouse. Pros: nice atmosphere, great service, variety of sides Cons: expensive more

Great steakhouse 4/16/2005
