Took the delivery guy a good hour despite only being a few blocks away. All the food was either cold or on the verge of getting there. The oil on everything was already solidifying to and I had to microwave everything back up just so it didn't taste bad. I also was a missing a good amount of items in my order that should've come with certain dishes. Won't ever order from here again. more

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! 9/7/2008

CHINA BEACH - UNPROFESSIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!\r \r I am speechless by the way I was treated at China Beach. I was dining on a Sunday afternoon with my family. Everyone's food came out except for mine. The waitress said she forgot to place my order. I waited an extra 15 minutes until my food arrived. My husband's food got cold while waiting for my food to arrive. When my meal arrived, I asked if it was going to be deducted from the bill. She rolled her eyes, gave me a dirty look, reluctantly agreed to comp my meal and refused to give me the side dish that accompanied my meal. While eating, our table was subject to whispers and dirty looks from behind the counter. When the bill arrived, my meal was not deducted. My husband asked our waitress what happened and she said ""she changed her mind."" We asked to speak to the manager. The manager reluctantly deducted the meal after arguing that ""just because they forgot about my meal didn't constitute a deduction from the bill."" While leaving the restaurant, the dirty looks continued (in front of my family which included young children). The looks were threatening and unprofessional. \r \r Having worked in customer service (as a waitress and in retail) for many years, I have never witnessed nor experienced such unprofessional customer service in my life. I will never eat at China Beach nor recommend this restaurant to any one I know and love. This is so disappointing considering my heritage is vietnamese and my love for the cuisine. Although this particular waitress is NOT vietnamese, this behavior is uncharacteristic of asian food restaurants. \r \r No paying customer should leave a restaurant feeling threatened for their safety. I am particularly disheartened because this occurred in front of young children. This is my first time reviewing any restaurant. I feel compelled to inform my community of this threatening experience while trying to enjoy my Sunday afternoon with my family.\r \r more

NY Jewish guy like GREAT Vietnamese Food 10/20/2007

I was taken here last week by a friend and when he invited me, I was a little nervous because it is billed as ?Authentic Vietnamese Cuisine? and given that Asian Fusion-style food can get me quite ill due to my Crohn?s Disease ? I figured I would be sipping tea and just smiling. But much to my pleasant surprise, I found it to be a ?cozy joint? with very good food (I had the ?#5 ? Com Chien? ? chicken fried rice with pees and carrots) and very good service. I left feeling as if I found my own little ?Authentic Vietnamese Cuisine? gem - and I am a Jewish guy from New York!\r \r I was also worried that I may not have much of a selection of food that wouldn?t put me in the hospital but they have a large assortment of dishes and they could not have been nicer when I explained some dietary restrictions I had to adhere to.\r \r At the conclusion of my meal, my server was genuinely interested in whether or not I enjoyed my dining experience, the taste of my food and the Service ? as opposed to sucking-up for a tip. I don?t know what more can be asked of a restaurant? They also do take-out and I believe you can order on-line through their website. So, check this place out ? it is a cool experience with great food - served by very nice people.\r \r more

Great Vietnamese food 7/21/2007

This small restaurant (more of a cafe than a bistro) has great inexpensive Vietnamese food. (I have no idea why earlier reviews call it Thai?) It's not fancy, the location is on a loud, busy corner but the food is incredibly fresh, there are many vegetarian options, the owner is very friendly, and their coffee is exceptional. It's a welcome break from the fast food of the boardwalk. more

Good food, unbelievably overpriced. 7/13/2007

Got take-out. Food was good. Service was quick. Prices were astronomically high. Only go here if you don't mind spending $20 on a decent Thai meal for just you. Pros: Food was good Cons: WAY overpriced more

Really great cheap vietnamese 11/1/2006

We have been going to china beach for a couple years now, and although I can't vouch for their authenticity, I would say the food is really great and the service is very friendly. I usually get the combo plate, which is extremely tasty! Pros: friendly service, great food, great value Cons: parking may be difficult more

A true L.A. find! 3/4/2006

This is one of those great places you just happen upon one day, or are lucky enough to have someone tell you about. Every time I go I order something different off their menu (which is packed with intersting options) - everything is always consistently amazing. They really know how to cook all kinds of meat including perfectly tasty shrimp. It's a tiny place next to a liquor store, but it still has it's own charm, plus the service is friendly and genuine. Pros: Exciting menu, Good value, Friendly waitstaff Cons: Only 7 small tables more

Extremely friendly and great food!! 10/27/2005

I know the restaurant pretty weell. I usually go there two to three times a week. THey have different specials every day that are very good. The chef is one of the best around. He sure knows how to make a mean pho..... the owner is quite the little lady as well.... Don't be shy to ask her questions, she loves to spark conversations wherever possible. Great location by the beach makes me stay there till closing sometimes. Great people, the kind who really remember your name. . Pros: Inexpensive, Dynamic, Personerable Cons: Humanot, Tension Releaser more

Great little place by the beach... 10/25/2005

A couple friends from northern California were in town and I wanted to go some place other than the usual Beverly Hills Metro-Faux... Thank God a random trip to the beach lead us this place. Loved it. Food was delicious and the cozy atmosphere was comforting. Be there soon! Pros: lovely, comfy, good food more

disappointing... 5/6/2005

Despite their ridiculously great location one block from the beach, our recent visit left us dissatisfied. We are absolute pho fanatics, so we are probably pickier than most, but their version was far too sanitized for our tastes. The broth was very watery and unflavorful, and the beef portions were microscopic. The appetizer we tried was tasty, but really expensive considering the portion. On the plus side, the service was friendly, but the extremely small interior meant that they were practically on top of us the entire time. Also, isn't it a law that eating establishments should have bathrooms? If it isn't, which it apparently isn't, it should be! more
