Outstanding -- Without rival 12/23/2010

My husband and I have taken eight kitties to The Chicago Cat Clinic for over twenty years. It is the premier cats-only veterinary service in the Chicago area, if not the entire country. Dr. Nordwall and his staff offer compassionate and comprehensive care with a knowledge base that has no rival. And when the time comes to let a kitty go they give all necessary information for us to make an informed though always painful decision, and follow with the most gentle of care. The last kitty we lost was kept alive -- and happy -- by Dr. Nordwall for more than two years beyond her expected life span, based on her cancer diagnosis. We cannot recommend The Chicago Cat Clinic, its veterinarians and staff, highly enough. They match professional care and compassion without rival. more

Chicago Cat Clinic 10/10/2008

I have been taking my cats to this clinic for 25 years. They have had excellent care. The office staff is polite and respectful to people and cats! The waiting room is calming to felines & their companions. The veterinarians are very kind and knowledgeable, keeping up with the latest research on cats. It's great to go to a facility that treats only cats. more

you will regret taking your cat here 11/21/2007

I took my cat in on Monday they took her in the back to take some test. she came out with a huge gash on her side stating she cut her self. They asked me if they could trim her nail which they charged 29 dollars for. they glued her cut together and did a horrible job i had to take her back in for them to re glue it. The doctor then advised me to take home a neck shade so she does not lick the cut which they charged me for. My cat is very calm and i know she would never hurt herself. i was appalled with the fact that my kitty was hurt and they made me pay for there mistake. i had blood work done and receptionist was very rude and said that she would have the doctor contact me after 3 days because she would not be in. wth i do not recommend this place. i use to go to north ave and they are the best. i tried the Chicago cat clinic because i live a few blocks away please do not take your cat here. more

worst place for your cat 11/21/2007

i went in on monday with my cat. they took her in the back for some test. the doctor came back and asked me if they could trim her nails. I agreed she then came back and said that my cat had cut herself and that they would have to stich her up. I asked to see my cat. The cut was huge there is no way that her nail could have caused that big of a wound. she glued the wound and charged me for it. When i got home she was bleeding i called the chicago cat clinic and was told by the receptionist that if i didnt get there within 20 mins the doctor would leave. i rushed back in and the doctor recommended that i take home a neck shade so she couldnt lick her wound. which i had to pay for as well. i called back the next day for the results of the test and was placed on hold for 20 minutes. I called the day after and i was told that the doctor who saw my cat would not be in and that i would have to wait til friday. i called back and was directed to the first lady who denied saying i couldnt speak with the doctor and said he would call me back. i have been waiting for the past two hours for a call back Pros: convenience Cons: service, taking care, more

The only hospital to take a cat 9/2/2007

The Chicago Cat Clinic is the Mayo Clinic of feline healthcare. It was founded in 1975 by Barbara Stein, who was one of the most highly-respected veterinary practitioners in the country. \r \r Dr John Nordwall learned his trade from her after vet school, and acquired the clinic following Dr Stein's death. He and his fellow veterinarians and staff have maintained and enhanced the sterling quality of feline care and human service for which the Clinic had justly been well known.\r \r I have had three cats in the past 25 years or so, all have been patients of the Clinic, and I would not even think of taking a cat to any other veterinary service. more

Best Feline only practice! 2/21/2007

I would definetly reccomend this Clinic to anyone who truely cares about their cats. The staff are so caring and make you feel so welcome there. I got greeted with a smile from the receptionists and everyone there was very knowledgeable. I did think it was a little epensive but considering the quality of care the my cat got I know it was worth it. I was impressed when I actually got to speak with the doctor personally the next day about my cats lab results. (at other clinics you either get to speak to a receptionist or a tech at the most) but even though all my cats levels were normal, I found it reassuring the the Doctor spoke to me personally about them. If you are looking for individualized care for your cat's I would definetly rteccomend the Chicago Cat Clinic! more

Would not recommend 11/29/2006

I'm moving to Chicago from out of state and called to get some information in addition to what was on the CCC website. I own two cats and they have always had the best care. Let it be known that people who answer the phone in any business can gain or lose potential customers. In my case, the woman who answered the phone at CCC was obnoxious. I asked her to tell me about the doctors in the practice (where did they get their DVM; what's their specialities; how long have they each been practicing------information that I don't believe is unreasonable to ask when entrusting the care of my cats to someone. I also asked about boarding, since I am moving to the area and need a place to board the cats at least for a day or two while the movers and unpackers are at my home. The short of this story is the lady I spoke to besides being amazingly unfriendly to the point of being rude didn't have any answers to my questions. She also told me "they don't believe in boarding cats" and could give me names of pet sitters. When I tried to explain that I wanted them to be safe while the movers were at my house, she still didn't get it. The bottom line of this story is I don't care if this was the very first cat-only clinic in Chicago, if they cannot be bothered to train their people or pay them well enough so that the person answering the phone is welcoming to a new client, then I don't need them either. If this were the only cat clinic in the entire state of Illinois, I'd sooner drive to Wisconsin than have them treated in this clinic because my cats deserve better and so do I! more

Wonderful Pet Care 5/17/2006

I have a good friend that swears by this cat clinic. It is the only place she will consider taking her two cats. She recommended them to me, and I did take my cat there once and was impressed by the staff and the way they treated my cat. The only reason I didn't continue my pet care there was that I needed something closer to my home. PROS: staff handles cats only CONS: is a little pricier than other vet. clinics. more

Truly Cat Experts 5/9/2006

If you love your cat and you want it to have the best care, bring your cat here. Dr. Nordwall, the other vets and the entire staff are have a superior knowledge of felines. The entire experience, even if its just a yearly exam and shots is different from other vets. This is especially true if the cat needs any kind of procedure requiring anesthesia or when they need blood drawn. I can't say enough good things. PROS: CONS: Street parking only more

CLINIC IS GREAT 9/17/2005

As most cat owners already know, taking your cat to the vet is a traumatic experience not only for the cat but the owner as well. To make matters worse, our cat was even more traumatized by the presence of barking dogs in the vet's waiting room. So we thought that the Chicago Cat Clinic would be a good alternative for her. And it turned out to be true -going to the Chicago Cat Clinic did make the experience easier. The vets and assistants are very friendly and courteous, and are acutely aware of your cat's potential reactions to any poking, prodding, shots, etc. They have a good bedside manner toward your pet and toward the owner. There is street parking, so the walk from the car to the office door is short. more
